00:00 They found her in a parking lot of an apartment,
00:02 and apparently she'd been there for a few days
00:04 and had likely been abandoned.
00:06 I am Ellen, and this is Layla's story for GeoBeats.
00:09 Layla was found as a stray by Act Billy.
00:12 I don't think she'd been on her own for too long.
00:14 My guess is that somebody was moving
00:16 and didn't take her with them.
00:17 We talk about it all the time
00:19 because she's such a sweet dog and so endearing
00:21 that we can't imagine how somebody would abandon her.
00:23 We ended up going to meet her.
00:25 I was actually looking for a dog,
00:27 and my fiance was sort of along for the ride.
00:31 It was my birthday, so I feel like that's a strategic choice
00:34 that anyone looking to bring along
00:36 a recalcitrant adopter should consider.
00:39 No. No.
00:41 [ Whining ]
00:42 Sit.
00:43 He's just more pragmatic than me,
00:44 and we both have busy lives.
00:46 But as soon as he saw her, it was game over.
00:48 He couldn't say no.
00:51 She's an incredibly sweet dog.
00:53 The day after we brought her home,
00:56 some of my family came over.
00:57 It was a big group of us,
00:59 and Layla was putting her head on their laps
01:01 and was just like, "Okay, I guess this is pretty good."
01:04 Hi, guys.
01:05 She absolutely adores my fiance,
01:08 and they have the sweetest relationship.
01:09 She's honestly more affectionate with him than she is with me.
01:12 They love to play together.
01:14 She'll grab a toy and come up to him
01:16 and solicit playtime.
01:17 Any time that he's on the couch,
01:19 she's on the couch with him,
01:20 resting her head on his lap.
01:22 Good girl.
01:23 I'm more of the caretaker.
01:25 She looks to me mostly when she's hungry.
01:27 It's so fun because when we walk her,
01:32 you can see people looking at her
01:34 and being like, "What is that?"
01:35 I describe her as having a pitty head on a corgi body,
01:41 which I think gives the most clear visual
01:43 you could imagine,
01:44 especially 'cause she has sort of like corgi coloring.
01:47 She has the mismatched ears, one up, one down.
01:51 I have no idea where they came from.
01:53 We thought maybe she grew out of that,
01:54 but it's still there.
01:56 She has an extremely long tail,
01:57 which adds to the visual
01:59 'cause she's very close to the ground.
02:01 You wanna go on a walk?
02:02 She's very expressive, especially when she's tired.
02:09 She really like hits a wall at 9 p.m.
02:11 and is just totally conked out.
02:13 She brings us so much joy.
02:16 Both of us are so happy that we decided to get a dog
02:19 and then came across her.
02:20 We got really lucky.
02:22 (dog squeaks)
02:24 (dog squeaks)
02:30 We have joked about cloning her
02:32 and just having Layla two, Layla three, Layla four
02:34 for the rest of our lives.
02:36 I hope she lives forever.
02:38 - No.
