Is it a bad look for legendary Hurricanes football alumni to wear Colorado gear on national TV?

00:00 All right, here's the trillion dollar question.
00:01 We get this from Giant Ninja who says,
00:04 "You've probably been asked this before, but here we go.
00:08 "How does Dono really feel about former Kanes
00:12 "supporting another university
00:15 "to the point that they are wearing that gear to promote?"
00:19 Giant Ninja, I find it to be really annoying, okay?
00:24 And no, I'm not jealous of Colorado
00:28 'cause I know that's what some of the Colorado fans
00:30 are saying, and by the way, how many of them
00:32 have actually been fans for more than six months?
00:35 But I know a lot of the Colorado fans,
00:36 oh, Miami fans are so jealous
00:38 'cause look at all the attention we're getting.
00:41 It's not about jealousy, okay?
00:42 I think no matter what university you support,
00:46 the idea of seeing some of your most prominent
00:50 football alumni spending this much time
00:53 sucking up to a different program
00:55 while their own alma mater is playing
00:57 really good football right now,
00:59 it's aggravating, it's annoying.
01:00 On the day that Miami was beating Texas A&M,
01:05 which was a signature win for our program
01:07 and for the program of these alums,
01:10 a handful of our top guys were seemingly ignoring Miami
01:14 because they were out in Boulder wearing Colorado gear,
01:18 watching Colorado against Nebraska.
01:21 Ed, listen, case by case, there's reasons
01:24 why these guys are doing what they're doing.
01:26 Michael Irvin is doing it primarily for his TV gig
01:30 and for the exposure.
01:32 Warren Sapp is basically out there
01:34 begging Deion Sanders for a job
01:36 and he'll probably get one next year.
01:38 And The Rock, he was out in Denver for a pro wrestling gig.
01:42 They invited him on to college game day.
01:45 And here's the thing about this, folks.
01:47 And in Colorado, they're obviously off to a great start.
01:51 If they start to lose games,
01:53 some of this buzz is gonna fizzle out.
01:55 That's just the way the world works,
01:56 especially this day and age when it's all about,
01:59 you know, 140 characters, social media, TikTok,
02:02 whatever people are using these days.
02:04 So these guys, they're out there sucking up to Deion
02:07 because it's good for their brand.
02:10 Right now, being associated with Colorado Buffaloes football
02:15 is the equivalent of marrying a Kardashian.
02:18 That's what that is right now.
02:20 You associate yourself with Colorado,
02:22 it gets you in the news, it gets you in the blogs,
02:24 it raises your profile.
02:26 So I can understand it to a certain extent
02:29 because these guys have brands they're trying to promote.
02:31 Some of them are trying to get jobs
02:33 on Deion's coaching staff.
02:35 But I completely agree with what Alonzo Highsmith
02:40 said about the situation,
02:43 who is another prominent Miami alum
02:45 who happens to be Miami's GM of football operations.
02:49 Him saying that putting on the Colorado gear,
02:52 that's a step too far.
02:53 Putting on the jersey of another program,
02:56 I think is too much, right?
02:58 Because Miami, we need, as they have been for, you know,
03:01 the past 40 some odd years,
03:03 we need Miami's alums to be ambassadors for Miami
03:07 because it helps in recruiting, right?
03:10 You put on the Colorado gear instead of the Miami gear,
03:13 it's gonna help Deion's recruiting,
03:15 potentially at the expense of your own recruiting.
03:17 It's not a good look.
03:18 Here's what Alonzo Highsmith tweeted
03:20 and I completely agree with it.
03:22 He says, "Seems like every former player
03:24 is a Colorado Buffalo now.
03:26 I guess we'll just keep on pressing on
03:28 with our bunker mentality.
03:31 It's us and only us.
03:32 And I support Deion,
03:34 but you couldn't pay me to wear a Colorado Buffalo shirt."
03:38 Bravo, Alonzo.
03:40 That was so well said.
03:42 And, you know, I think that what he said,
03:44 actually, I think it may have made Dwayne Johnson realize,
03:47 you know what, he may be right about that.
03:49 Because I noticed that like right after Alonzo Highsmith
03:52 said what he said, suddenly our guy,
03:55 and by the way, I don't want to disparage Dwayne Johnson
03:58 in any way because he has given so much back
04:01 to the university, including big time donations
04:05 to the point where the weight room and the locker room
04:08 are named after him.
04:09 So I'm not trying to disparage Dwayne Johnson,
04:12 but, you know, he did have the Colorado jersey on
04:14 on college game day.
04:15 And then after Alonzo said what he said,
04:18 I noticed The Rock starts tweeting out a lot of nice things
04:21 about the Canes, which is great.
04:23 And he complimented Armando Blunt,
04:25 who committed to Miami last week.
04:26 So we need more of that.
04:27 Like we need more of that from The Rock
04:30 and less of The Rock putting on a Colorado Buffaloes jersey.
04:34 Can we get more of the Canes stuff
04:36 and a little bit less of the other thing, all right?
04:38 So that's where I'm not losing any sleep over it,
04:41 but, you know, it's a little cringe, okay?
04:43 It's a little cringe to see some of the most prominent
04:46 Miami football alumni out there sucking up to Deion
04:50 because they want to get that Kardashian type of attention
04:53 out there.
04:54 It is what it is, all right?
04:55 (upbeat music)
04:57 (upbeat music)
