00:00 "We were on the game in the first half." "Yeah, we were. We'd done a pretty good job in the
00:25 first half. Even in the second half I was disappointed with the second goal because
00:32 we'd created a few in the first half. We were always under pressure as well but lots of
00:38 positives to take from the game. I think we've come and had a bit of a go but more disappointed
00:44 with the second and third goal. Probably even more so with the third goal because at 2-1
00:48 we're still in the game, there's still a game on to get something out of it. But we had
00:54 sort of gambled, we'd taken a lot of our height off then and put on different players in the
00:59 hope that we might have tried to find a way of getting a second goal."
01:01 "Jarrett was ill during the game, can you tell us a bit about that and how he managed
01:08 to get to not be as bad as he was?" "Yeah, well he'd been ill since the weekend. We'd
01:15 come back after the game and the man sitting, he's not trained. The first day training was,
01:19 well he was in on Thursday and he trained on his own and then he trained with us on
01:23 Friday on his own and then Saturday he joined us yesterday."
01:30 "What do you make of his performance? He's quite a strong man, you know, like I mentioned
01:35 in particular." "Yeah, no we're needing him. You can see the moments he had a chance with
01:40 a header as well in the second half which he didn't. I think when you come here, I've
01:44 been here so many times and I actually think we've played quite well today, I think we've
01:48 done a lot of good things but I come away from here too often saying the same thing.
01:54 So I'm a bit fed up saying it but I've got to say we made Mickey the great chance with
01:59 a header, the keeper made a great save off Thomas Csucsek. So we had moments ourself
02:04 and so did Liverpool but you'd expect that here."
02:06 "How do you reflect on the start of the season now, it's been the last couple of weeks and
02:13 you've still got a lot of points to play." "Well, I reflect on it the last two games
02:15 you've played to play Man City and you've had to play Liverpool. Our start to the season
02:20 has been really good. You've also got to remember we've played four out of six away from home
02:24 in the opening six games. So we've only had two home games and those two home games have
02:30 been Chelsea and Man City. So if you look at it that way you'd say it's been a pretty
02:35 difficult opening start but I think we've done well. I take loads of encouragement from
02:41 some of the things I've seen. Some of the new players are settling in brilliantly well
02:45 and making a big difference to us as well. So hopefully we can sort of, onwards and upwards,
02:52 we've had two tough games. We've ran both teams close but in a way, we gave three goals
02:58 away in the second half against Man City last week, we've given two away today against Liverpool
03:03 in the second half. So I have to find a way of being able to put in the same amount of
03:09 energy levels against these teams which we've done in the first half and the second half
03:13 because we've just probably started to fade a little bit.
03:18 Derry, as you've just said, you've ran both Man City and Liverpool. Is the main encouragement
03:23 that can go toe-to-toe with the big teams?
03:25 Well, I don't know if we're quite toe-to-toe yet but I think we're probably going to Avery
03:28 Soft and try and throw a punch and hope that it causes them a problem. I thought today
03:34 in the opening 20 minutes, I thought that up until the penalty we had a really good
03:39 grasp of the game at that time and then we go a one down from a penalty which I think
03:45 we could have probably done better but it takes a bit of a deflection. Actually, I thought
03:51 Liverpool were counter-attacking us more often than we were doing it to them because we had
03:55 good control of the ball but having the magic moments to get the chance. I think you come
04:04 here and you might only get three chances in a game. Liverpool get ten chances and you've
04:09 got to hope that they'll miss nine of them but you've got to hope when you get three
04:14 that you can take two of them somehow and you get yourself a result.
04:17 Just on Jarrod Bowden, it seems to have really improved the area aspect of his game. He's
04:22 got a hem against Newton and he's got a goal to finish today. Is that something you've
04:25 noticed?
04:26 Yeah, Jarrod's a lot better than maybe given credit for and he's got a lot of things he's
04:31 improving, getting stronger, getting quicker and he's in good form, Jarrod. We need him
04:37 because you can see his goals, the boys who follow West Ham and have done, we needed him
04:41 at the end of last season to come up with goals at really important times for us and
04:46 he started the season really, really well.
04:48 And lastly, David, Jesse Lingard, none of the training at West Ham, lots of training
04:53 elsewhere, is this a disappointment in a way?
04:55 No, not at all. I'm quite comfortable, I was more than relaxed with it and I think I've
05:01 been indicating to you, you boys, that we're having to see what he's going to do and how
05:06 he's going to be. I think we like Jesse a lot, I just don't know if we need another
05:11 player in the position he would probably play for us.
05:15 Okay, thanks everybody.
05:18 What do you want?
05:20 I thought you were coming back there, I thought you were coming in there.
05:28 Only live games are there, that's what I'm saying.
05:34 Thank you.
