Ross Blowers talks Surf Life saving in the Lower North Coast
Transcript
00:00 Hi, my name's Ross, I'm the President of Lower North Coast Surf Lifesaving.
00:04 Crowdy Head in the North and Pacific Palms in the South.
00:07 We also have Tarry Ulbar, Blackhead and we've got our two town clubs being Capehorpe and Foster.
00:14 Foster's a new build and it should be up by the end of June, hopefully July of next year.
00:20 We've got 135 kilometres of coastline, it's one of the longest coastline surveilled areas in New South Wales by Lifesaving.
00:27 We've got six clubs as I indicated and those members work tirelessly to make sure everybody is safe.
00:34 If you're coming to the beach, please swing between the flags.
00:38 If you're on medication, take your medication before you arrive and bring some extra with you just in case.
00:43 Food and fluid. It's really easy to dehydrate on the beach and make sure you've got some form of cover.
00:49 Even an umbrella is worthwhile but these little tents you see popping up are awesome.
00:53 When you come to the beach, make yourself known to the Lifesavers or the Lifeguards
00:57 because they will be here to help you and they will give you whatever advice that they think will make your enjoyment day at the beach so special.
01:05 What I would like to see is if there are any people that are interested in becoming members of surf clubs, please come along.
01:12 It's not restricted by age or physical capacity. Anybody can be a member of a surf club.
01:18 If you can't run and swim and jump and paddle a board, that's not a problem.
01:22 You can still do CPR, you can still do first aid, you can still do a radio officer's certificate, you can still do the advanced resource.
01:30 These are all awards that are essential to how a club operates.
01:34 Not only the fact is that we need people to assist with packing up, pulling down, putting on morning teas, having lunches, doing dinners, working behind the bar just to try and raise some funds.
01:45 It would be a fabulous thing if you could spare some time.
01:48 We're not worried about ages. Old and young are all welcome and it would be fantastic if you could come and join us.
