Dabo Swinney on Syracuse's offense
Transcript
00:00 He takes off.
00:01 Well, the two big plays in the Purdue game, he just takes off.
00:05 You know, he just gets back, they're in man coverage and you know,
00:09 they got him, one time they actually have him.
00:11 But, I mean, we got plenty of tape where we had him too, and we don't have him.
00:15 He's a big, strong kid.
00:18 And he's just got a great feel.
00:22 You know, he's fast.
00:26 He's faster than he is quick, but yet he's very elusive.
00:29 He's just kind of slippery in the pocket,
00:31 even though he's not a quick twitch guy.
00:33 But you let him get outside, he's gone.
00:35 I mean, he can really, really run.
00:36 But he's just got a good feel for stepping up, pushing out one way or another.
00:43 But you look at those two big plays in the Purdue game
00:47 that led to the two touchdowns, I mean, he just scrambled around.
00:51 The next thing you know he's outside and there he goes.
00:55 So, and one went for a first down and then a score,
00:58 the other one was a 35-yard touchdown.
01:00 But they do a lot of design runs too.
01:02 I mean, he is – they're leading rusher.
01:05 So they're going to run a lot of speed option with him.
01:09 They certainly run some zone read stuff, but they run a lot of midline
01:13 where they actually, you know, they're reading a de-tackle.
01:17 And they do it different ways.
01:19 You know, they'll read the de-tackle, you know, the true power read
01:25 where they'll read the de-tackle.
01:27 If the de-tackle is chasing, you know, he'll pull it.
01:31 And they also run what we call the reverse power read, if you will,
01:35 where the back's coming, everybody's blocking that way
01:39 and he'll read the de-tackle.
01:41 And if the de-tackle kind of goes to the back,
01:44 then he's running out the backside, he's basically the running back.
01:46 So, they do a lot of different things that challenge you.
