District Officer James Newstead with a warning about fire alarms and a report about the fire in Ravenswood. Video Rod Thompson
Transcript
00:00 Okay, so Friday evening we had a couple of crews from Launceston Brigade and a crew from
00:10 Ravenswood Brigade respond to reports of a structure fire at Ravenswood.
00:15 When they arrived they found a smoke-blocked house with a smoke alarm activating and had
00:21 to force entry to get inside the house.
00:24 The crews did a quick search of the house and found a male occupant sleeping on the
00:30 couch and had to wake him up and bring him outside.
00:34 So he was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and Tas Ambulance transported him to hospital.
00:40 So we had the next door neighbour hear the alarm and then phone Fire Com.
00:46 So this time of year when we're changing our clocks for daylight saving we like to
00:51 remind people to change their smoke alarm batteries.
00:56 There's also 10 year lithium batteries so you can swap out the old smoke alarms out
01:01 for the newer 10 year lithium batteries.
01:04 The fire was caused due to cooking practices and he'd fallen asleep while cooking.
01:09 Ah look I think the quick action of the crews really is the important thing here and most
01:14 probably has saved his life.
