Registered dietician of the Cleveland Clinic, Beth Czerwony, explains the physical and mental benefits associated with eating apples and how these tasty treats can prevent certain health problems.

00:08 And eating the sweet snack boosts physical health.

00:19 because we know that those are two important components

00:25 Registered dietitian, Beth Cerrone with Cleveland Clinic,
00:28 says at their core, apples are low in sugar
00:31 and their skin is high in fiber.
00:33 Fiber satisfies hunger, making you feel fuller longer,
00:36 which can lead to eating less, promoting weight loss.
00:39 In addition, apples are rich in antioxidants,
00:42 which can boost your gut microbiome
00:43 and help reduce inflammation.
00:45 They're gonna have their own unique antioxidant
00:47 polyphenols associated with them.
00:49 And then with that, having that good variety
00:51 is gonna help with those,
00:53 improve your overall immune function,
00:55 which in turn helps decrease your chances of cancer.
00:57 You get the most health benefits from apples
01:00 when they're eaten raw and unpeeled.
01:02 Having these types of foods are gonna help overall.
01:04 And then when we control our blood sugar
01:07 and our blood pressure, this decreases the chances for stroke
