Was Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton tougher on the Broncos this week in preparations for the Chicago Bears?
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, at times. Look, see if this makes sense.
00:05 And I'm going to go back to Bill, and I don't mean to -- the hardest time to work with Bill was when you were three or four wins in a row.
00:12 I mean, you couldn't wait for the game.
00:15 But, you know, you'd have a couple tough losses, and then he'd be in a little bit more pick-me-up.
00:22 And so I think you've got to use your gut relative to what they need.
00:26 And, you know, that began Monday with the team meeting, and then at practice.
00:31 I felt real good about the energy this week.
00:33 But I can remember we were 4-1 playing Detroit, and they had kind of had one of those streaks from the year before.
00:43 And I don't know how many games, but we were a heavy favorite.
00:47 And he had us all convinced by Friday we were playing the '85 Bears.
00:54 I mean, you couldn't get to the game fast enough.
00:57 So I think you trust your instincts relative to your team and where you're at.
01:04 Yeah, and look, a guy like Mike, who's arguably one of the better special teams coordinators we've seen, is specifically in the return game.
01:14 I think that was like his 22nd kick return touchdown.
01:18 I mean, he went 14 years in a row.
01:20 When he came to us in New Orleans four weeks later, Camara goes 101, and those aren't accidents.
01:26 So we just assume, you know, you kick off from the 20.
01:30 But slowly, though, those opportunities, you know, 20 years ago there were 20 critical special teams plays,
01:40 and now they're down to maybe eight.
01:41 You've got your punt return, you know, still alive.
01:45 And so, you know, we value those opportunities.
