The TCL Q7 QLED TV looks to strike just the right balance of performance and cost. Priced the same as the infamous 6-Series, the Q7 seems to be the best value of the TCL offerings for 2023. Here's how the set stacks up based on our first impressions.

00:03 TCL has re-imagined its TV lineup for 2023.
00:06 It now stars the QM8 Mini LED TV,
00:09 but I think it's the step down, the Q7,
00:12 that you're gonna wanna keep on your radar.
00:13 Let's go take a closer look.
00:15 (upbeat music)
00:17 The TCL Q7 QLED TV looks like the definition of a sweet spot.
00:26 It somewhat unofficially takes over the role
00:28 of the TCL 6 Series in the company's rebranded collection,
00:32 striking an attractive balance of features
00:34 and value for a 4K HDR TV.
00:37 In fact, priced the same as the TCL 6 Series,
00:40 the TCL Q7 packs impressive gaming specs,
00:43 the latest gen local dimming control,
00:45 and the promise of excellent brightness.
00:47 The set also has a native remote
00:49 since it's powered by Google TV instead of Roku.
00:52 The Q7 QLED TV has more premium design elements
00:56 than you might expect.
00:58 The brushed detail on the metallic bezel
01:00 is a great example of how TCL isn't cutting quarters.
01:02 Even if this isn't the most premium TV in the lineup,
01:05 it still has a premium flair.
01:07 It's always great to have versatility
01:09 when you're positioning your TV.
01:10 The stands of the Q7 either face outward like this,
01:13 but if it would better suit your console table,
01:15 you can turn them around and have them face inward,
01:18 which we prefer over a central stand
01:20 for accommodating a soundbar.
01:21 Speaking of soundbars, the new TCL Q soundbar
01:25 is pitched as a coordinating accessory
01:26 for the Q line TVs such as the Q7.
01:30 The Q7 has a 120 hertz native panel
01:32 with up to 200 local dimming zones.
01:35 TCL's AI PQ Engine Gen 3 controls those dimming zones.
01:39 For movie and show watching,
01:40 viewers will benefit from all the major HDR formats
01:43 as well as Dolby Vision IQ
01:45 thanks to the built-in ambient room light sensor.
01:48 But if you ask me,
01:49 the set's specs stand out even more for gamers.
01:52 TCL's Game Accelerator 240
01:54 powers up to 240 hertz of VRR gaming experiences.
01:59 It also has auto low latency mode
02:01 and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
02:03 Benchmarking the TCL Q7 QLED TV
02:06 will let us see whether these specs deliver on the promises
02:09 and how the set handles a variety of content.
02:12 We'll pay especially close attention to HDR peak brightness,
02:15 which was a highlight of the TCL 6 series
02:17 and consistently an important metric for shoppers.
02:20 The TCL Q7 QLED TV is available now
02:23 and it starts at a 55 inch configuration for $749
02:28 and it goes up to an 85 inch size for $2,199.
02:33 Let me know if it seems like the TCL Q7
02:35 is the right TV for you this year.
02:37 We'll hopefully have a full review on Tom's Guide very soon.
02:40 In the meantime, be sure to check out what we're doing
