00:18 The issue of poverty remains a serious problem of the country with so many deserted Filipinos living in the inner city,
00:27 coastal communities, and those on the hills and mountains.
00:30 Various methods and programs have been launched by the government as well as the private sector to address it.
00:35 This issue is the topic of the fourth International Conference for Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development led by Samar State University.
00:43 Various higher education institutions, different government agencies, LGUs, and private organizations are taking part.
00:50 Featured in the conference are the health research and technology innovations
00:55 showing ways and means to elevate poverty. We are providing an avenue where we can have exchange of ideas.
01:20 Researchers are presented here in the conference which will help in formulating appropriate policies to elevate poverty.
01:25 For its part, the office of Senator Pia Cayetano has shown its support for the health sector. We believe that health is an
01:32 indicator of poverty.
01:34 So we want through innovation and research to help our countrymen to
01:39 get more ideas and access to get good health. What Samar State University is doing is
01:44 they're establishing their College of Medicine. Right now, we lack doctors, we lack nurses, and through this kind of effort of Samar State and other
01:52 state universities, we can get more workforce. The issue of poverty cannot be solved by one agency.
01:58 It is a problem that needs a multi-party focus,
02:00 engagement, and a collaborative response. Samar State University believes that all of us need to help each other.
02:08 So this is supposed to be everybody's
02:13 responsibility. Convergence is very important. That's why our framework of 3+3, the pillars of
02:20 becoming a world-class university
02:23 includes
02:26 the pool of talents, good governance, and
02:30 developing the culture of innovation. This also includes forging partnerships and collaborations. In the end,
02:37 its aim is to make people really feel the impact of government's assistance to lift them out from poverty. Rod Lugu said, "For the nation."
