00:03 - I'm Frank Marcus and I'm here on the Acura stand
00:09 next to what is sure to be one of the biggest hits
00:11 of the North American International Auto Show,
00:13 Acura's NSX sports car.
00:15 It's been about six years since the NSX left our market.
00:18 During that time, there's been a lot of speculation
00:20 that the car would have a V10 front engine.
00:22 In fact, John Icato's team built just such a car
00:25 and got it all done and said,
00:26 "You know what, it's not an NSX."
00:27 So they went back to the drawing board
00:29 and what we have here is once again,
00:30 a V6 midship mounted car,
00:33 only this one is augmented with three electric motors.
00:36 One of them is connected to the engine,
00:38 driving the rear wheels
00:39 to a seven speed dual clutch transmission.
00:42 The other two are up in front
00:43 where they can power each wheel individually
00:46 in acceleration and braking for torque vectoring
00:48 to help pull the car around turns,
00:50 whether you're accelerating or braking.
00:52 Now this car is, we've been told
00:54 it's about three years out.
00:55 So what you see here is just an early stages
00:58 of the final development.
01:00 And during that time, we might get a little bit longer
01:02 for crash protection and so forth,
01:03 but it should look about like this.
01:05 I tell you, I am really excited to drive this car.
01:08 We're told it'll give us big V8 performance
01:10 with better than four cylinder fuel economy.
01:13 You know, this car, the NSX,
01:15 when it came to market in 1991,
01:17 changed the world forever and for the better.
01:19 I'm guessing that a V6 three motor hybrid
01:22 could do the same again this time.
01:24 Stay tuned for more from the Detroit Auto Show.
