We got a chance to get an up close look at the updated 2017 Nissan Pathfinder right after it was unveiled.
Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm Scott Pack, Senior Product Planning Manager for Nissan Crossovers and this is
00:06 the new 2017 Pathfinder.
00:09 It's significantly redesigned for the 2017 model year.
00:14 Everything from the front end styling to the engine, the IT system, the way it drives,
00:18 safety features in the front.
00:20 Everything is new from the hood, the new grill, the fog lamps have been all redesigned to
00:26 really capture the spirit of Pathfinder, the sense of adventure, the masculine SUV.
00:31 As we flow to the back, we've got all new 20 inch machine finished painted alloy wheels
00:36 that are standard on the Platinum grade, integrated turn signal mirrors.
00:40 This is the Caspian Blue, one of two all new colors for 2017 model year.
00:45 A new tail lamp design to really harmonize with the styling changes.
00:49 The rear fascia, the bumpers have been squared off a little bit to lift up the design of
00:55 the vehicle, just to give it some of that true SUV stance.
00:59 This is the motion activated lift gate.
01:01 You have your I-key on you and your purse in your pocket.
01:04 You go up to the vehicle, swing your foot, the bumper automatically activates and opens
01:10 the lift gate.
01:13 Once it opens, you can load your cargo or take it out, step back, swing your foot again
01:19 and it closes automatically.
01:21 Very convenient for when you have your hands full, you're in a parking lot, you have your
01:25 kids or your shopping bags with you.
01:27 So all new 3.5 liter V6 with 284 horsepower, 259 pound feet of torque.
01:33 That's an increase of 24 horsepower and 19 pound feet of torque to really get the vehicle
01:38 moving when you need it to go.
01:39 We have the third step of D-step logic in the vehicle, which while it's a CVT, it does
01:44 simulate the shifts in the upper RPM band to give it a more natural feeling.
01:49 Already on the vehicle is a blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert, so it alerts
01:53 you if there's a vehicle in your blind spot.
01:56 Also when you're backing up in a parking lot, it's got radars on both sides of the rear
02:00 bumper and it shoots to the side.
02:03 If there's a vehicle approaching you as you're backing up, it will alert the driver so they
02:06 can break in time.
02:09 The second row has a Nissan's innovative EZ-Flex seating system.
02:14 So every seat will recline, slide, fold flat.
02:18 And one innovative feature on the second row is the EZ-Flex seating system with latch and
02:25 glide.
02:27 So if there were a child seat in this seating position and somebody needed to get to the
02:32 back, normally there wouldn't be enough space for the person to get to the back.
02:36 So I'm going to push down on this to simulate a car seat.
02:40 Slide this forward, the seat will actually tilt forward.
02:44 So you can retain the child seat here, allowing ingress for the passenger to go into the rear
02:50 seat.
02:51 We have an all new IT system, navigation available.
02:55 It's heavily icon based to simulate what you have on your smartphone, on your tablet.
03:00 There are shortcuts available, it's customizable, it's very quick and easy to use.
03:04 So that's the new 2017 Pathfinder.
03:07 The vehicle will go on sale the first part of September and pricing should be announced
03:12 closer that date.
