00:00 So, just like teachers play a major role in our lives,
00:03 after our parents,
00:04 the people who teach us the secrets of life are our teachers.
00:09 In fact, one of our teachers has always been our favorite,
00:12 whether it's at school level, college or university.
00:15 Children must be celebrating this day.
00:17 Small children make a lot of such things and take them to their teachers,
00:21 take cards and express their love.
00:24 So, that is a very beautiful gesture.
00:27 So, we have with us to talk about this situation,
00:31 the former Principal of Qadian Azam Medical College, Dr. Javed Iqbal.
00:36 Dr. Javed Iqbal, thank you so much for joining me.
00:39 Especially, today, we are talking about this topic.
00:42 So, tell us,
00:43 a teacher plays a very important role in the education and training of any child.
00:47 After home, the most important school is the school.
00:51 Do you understand how important it is for teachers to play their role?
00:56 Is it still as important as it was in your time and our time?
01:02 Yes, thank you very much, Aazia.
01:05 Absolutely right.
01:06 First, we talk about our formal teachers,
01:09 that is, the ones who teach us in school or college.
01:13 Apart from this,
01:14 children and humans,
01:17 in general,
01:18 apart from their parents,
01:20 there are thousands of people in the world who teach them.
01:24 It is not necessary that their teacher is a formal teacher,
01:27 like the one who was their teacher in school.
01:29 Someone like this can be their friend,
01:31 someone like that can be their elder brother,
01:34 and their parents can also be there,
01:36 who can be in the teacher's role.
01:39 There is a South African verb,
01:41 or its proverb is,
01:43 that for the care of a child,
01:46 the whole village is needed.
01:48 That is, it means that the personality of a person,
01:52 thousands of people participate in it.
01:54 And obviously,
01:55 when a child studies in our school or college,
01:58 he has a relationship with his teachers,
02:01 and those teachers who become his role models,
02:03 who like him from the bottom of their hearts,
02:05 they play a very prominent role in his life.
02:11 So, the teacher's importance is very much for the mental development of a person.
02:15 Today is the era of technology,
02:17 and you said that we learn from a lot of people.
02:20 It's not just specific to school teachers,
02:23 or university teachers.
02:25 Mentors also play an important role in our lives.
02:27 But do you think that we are more in touch with people,
02:32 or that there is a big distance due to technology?
02:35 So, we have more reliance on technology,
02:39 and we are trying to learn more from there.
02:41 Yes, Sardar, it is unfortunate that the new generation,
02:46 the children who are born 10-15 years ago,
02:50 have been treated very unfairly,
02:53 because they think that links are relations.
02:56 A relation is something in which you have invested a lot,
03:00 in which you have invested time,
03:02 energy, and sacrifices.
03:05 So, these are relations.
03:06 But unfortunately, in this era of technology,
03:09 if you want to make a link with someone,
03:11 you just send a call,
03:13 send a request, and he clicks on it, and it comes to your link.
03:16 So, it is very unfortunate that we think of links as relations,
03:20 and it is very important to explain this to the new generation,
03:23 that the artificial relationships that are developed through cyber words,
03:28 are not equivalent to those relations that are with your physical interaction.
03:33 So, this is really a big shortcoming,
03:36 and we don't know about it right now.
03:38 Social scientists are doing research on this,
03:40 and some of their results have come out,
03:42 which have shown that in the coming years,
03:45 it will be very difficult for our younger generation to maintain relations.
03:50 For example, I can quote with you that
03:53 on the 2nd of this month,
03:55 in the UK, mobile phones were completely banned in schools.
04:00 And it was banned because they did a long study and found that
04:04 the one-to-one relationship with the teacher,
04:07 is as important to develop personality,
04:10 and to acquire knowledge,
04:12 and to develop character,
04:14 mobile phones are not its alternate.
04:16 And this is very important,
04:18 that in a country like Britain,
04:20 where there is a school reform committee,
04:22 they have decided that mobile phones will be banned.
04:25 So, the answer to your question is,
04:27 that we have the right, especially for children under the age of 7,
04:31 natural activities,
04:34 like going to the park,
04:36 like catching butterflies,
04:38 like going to see the bird house,
04:40 cleaning the house,
04:42 eating with the mother,
04:44 helping her in the kitchen,
04:46 and going to the hospital to visit the patient,
04:48 going shopping together,
04:50 children should be involved in such activities.
04:53 This is the best alternative,
04:55 which we can get from the internet,
04:57 without filtering the data.
04:59 It is not necessary to tell the values,
05:01 it is very important to show the values practically,
05:04 and the children imitate you.
05:06 One more question,
05:08 we are celebrating the teachers,
05:10 but the situation in our country,
05:12 the situation with our teachers,
05:14 have we been able to give them the real status?
05:17 Look, I know this with complete certainty,
05:21 that in Britain and in America,
05:24 I am taking the names of both these countries,
05:26 because we copy a lot of things from there.
05:29 There, the teacher has a very high status.
05:32 In our country, after a year or two,
05:35 children say that they want to be a doctor,
05:37 or an engineer,
05:39 but many children say that they want to be a teacher,
05:41 because they feel that the status of a teacher is very high.
05:45 So, in our country,
05:47 if you look at a primary school teacher,
05:49 he must be going through a very difficult time,
05:51 considering all the privileges he has.
05:54 In government schools,
05:56 you get free tickets,
05:58 but in our country,
06:00 there are a lot of private schools.
06:02 In private schools,
06:04 the teacher's fees are so shameful,
06:06 that in Pakistan,
06:08 there is an unfilled work.
06:10 So, we have to make proper arrangements for the teachers' employment,
06:13 so that they can get the status.
06:15 Thank you so much, Dr. Javed Iqbal.
06:17 There is a lot of work that needs to be done in the educational sector,
06:20 and we have a lot of children in the crores who do not even go to school.
