  • last year
Could the secret to longevity be as simple as plenty of walking and enjoying plenty of baked beans? Australia's oldest man Kenneth Weeks believes so and perhaps he's onto something as he just celebrated his 110th birthday.

00:00 The perfect party for this super centenarian.
00:05 Yes, a perfect party.
00:07 Kenneth Weeks has lived through two world wars, the Great Depression and two pandemics.
00:12 How does it feel to be 110?
00:15 Confused.
00:18 But what's clear is his love for his hometown of Grafton on the New South Wales North Coast.
00:25 There he worked as an electrical salesman, fish and chip shop owner and electoral officer.
00:31 During World War II he assisted in airfield construction,
00:35 but Ken was rejected from the Air Force due to his blood pressure.
00:39 Yeah, blood pressure's not that important after all.
00:41 Ken puts his longevity down to staying active and eating healthy.
00:46 Oh yes, I've always been active.
00:48 Ken loves walking and he's been an avid walker for many years.
00:52 And it's clearly a formula that works.
00:54 He had COVID recently and he survived that, so I think he's indestructible really.
01:00 It was only five years ago, at the tender age of 105,
01:04 that Ken entered care at the Widden Age Care Facility in Grafton.
01:09 The average age for a person entering care here is 83,
01:13 so Ken continues to defy the odds.
01:16 We wheeled him into here and thought he mightn't do so well,
01:20 but he's actually really prospered.
01:25 Ken does have one indulgence, baked beans.
01:28 From what the team told me here, it's his little secret weapon.
01:32 And what better gift than Ken's own limited edition range.
01:37 Tickled a pink with that, I think.
01:39 A letter from King Charles III, now a prized possession.
01:43 I remember on his birthday I had one for him.
01:48 Long live the Ken.
