00:06 First of all, shout out to Doug Williams and Shaq, man.
00:09 I've spent the last two years at the Legacy Bowl actually, and
00:13 what a first class event for those young people.
00:16 And not only opportunities like you say for the NFL, the XFL, USFL,
00:21 things of that nature, but also the job opportunities.
00:25 But that career fair that they put on there, what a first class event, man.
00:29 And from the time you were there, the first year I went,
00:33 I was actually the head coach here at Benedict.
00:35 But a good friend of mine, Willie Simmons, who you know very well from FAMU,
00:40 their staff was the staff for Team Robinson.
00:43 And he didn't have a line coach at the time,
00:45 he had some transitions amongst his staff.
00:47 So he asked me if I would have come for that week, and
00:50 I actually went as assistant that first year.
00:53 So when I got back, man, I encouraged my staff.
00:56 I said, listen here, guys, if we're gonna hit a witness thing,
00:59 we might have an opportunity to take our staff there to represent next year.
01:04 So that was encouraging to our staff, and they rolled their sleeves up, and
01:08 we found a way to win our league.
01:10 So we were invited back, and now I have the opportunity to be a co-head coach with
01:14 Coach Eric Dooley at Southern University.
01:16 What a great experience, man.
01:17 That opportunity is for those young men, I tell them all the time.
01:20 The opportunity of a lifetime only lasts a lifetime of opportunity.
01:25 And the opportunity is now, you have 32 teams that come there to watch, and
01:30 you got eyes on you every day.
01:33 So everything, how you dress, how you speak, how you interact,
01:36 all those life lessons that I try to instill in my program here at
01:39 Benedict College, I was pouring that into those guys that I only knew for a week.
01:43 And they understood that because, man, I'll tell you what, every day's an interview,
01:47 what a great experience, first class event.
01:50 And I always encourage young men to play well,
01:53 put good stuff on film for your senior year.
01:55 And you have an opportunity to get in front of those people at the Legacy Bowl,
01:58 man.
01:59 Like I say, they do a great job.
02:01 They have the combine now, and they also have the game, a lot of media attention.
02:06 What a great venue that we get a chance to play and practice at, at Tulane, man.
02:10 So first and foremost, this is a great deal.
02:13 I love what they're doing there.
02:14 My defensive lineman, Lubert Danellis, has already been-
02:17 >> I was about to ask you about him.
02:18 >> Yeah.
02:19 >> For that game, and he is all that and more.
02:22 And I know he's gonna do an amazing job when he goes there.
02:25 But first thing first, you gotta play a great senior year and
02:28 continue to finish this out.
02:29 But we have a couple more guys that, one of our starting corners, man,
02:32 he's had at least 12 to 14 NFL scouts come through here.
02:37 >> Really? >> He's a 6'2" corner, 200 pounds, 4'4", 8".
02:40 I mean, he's a boundary corner, he's field school, he put hands on you.
02:44 And he's a great football player, but he's already got his degree.
02:47 He's a great person, and he loves the game.
02:50 And I'm just grateful to see guys get those opportunities.
02:53 But I wanna encourage, regardless of where you're at, if you're at Bramlin,
02:57 you're at Southern, you're at Benedict, you're at Fort Valley State,
03:01 whatever it is, you get an opportunity to go play in that game.
03:03 Go play in that game, because it does major marketing for HBCUs.
03:09 You have all the scouts there to see you.
03:11 Don't let anybody discourage you, because that's a great game, and
03:15 it's a first class, well-ran event.
03:17 And you'll have a great experience, and you'll meet friends for
03:19 life there as well.
