00:00 We're whippin' up my favorite fall dessert, apple crisp.
00:03 So I'm starting by peeling, coring,
00:04 and slicing up my apples.
00:06 I like to leave just a little bit of the skin still on it,
00:09 just 'cause it makes it look a little rustic.
00:11 What I'm using today are the Envy apples and Gala apples.
00:15 If you want something a little more tart,
00:16 you could bring in the Granny Smiths.
00:18 For this recipe, you want about 10 cups of apples,
00:21 so that's probably gonna be somewhere in the ballpark
00:24 of seven to eight apples, I think.
00:27 I don't use the fancy apple core.
00:29 To me, it just takes too much time,
00:31 so here's the way I like to slice my apples.
00:33 I just run my knife along each side of the core,
00:37 and then slice down.
00:39 You wanna kinda act quickly so they don't turn brown,
00:41 but if you're taking your time making this,
00:44 then you can keep your apples sitting in a bowl
00:46 of lemon water or something,
00:47 just to keep 'em from turning brown.
00:49 All right, so we're gonna place our 10 cups
00:51 of sliced apples just straight into a 9x13.
00:54 As the apples cook, they're gonna release a lot of juice,
00:57 and it's gonna create a syrup
00:58 with the help of some sugar.
01:00 So I'm gonna combine sugar with a little bit of flour
01:03 and some cinnamon.
01:04 This is gonna kinda help thicken
01:06 and create that nice syrup.
01:08 Then I'm just gonna pour this directly over the apples.
01:11 The recipe also calls to add in a little bit of water
01:14 to help kinda create that syrup.
01:16 Arguably, the best part of a crisp is the topping,
01:19 and that's what we're gonna make.
01:20 What differentiates a crisp from a cobbler
01:23 is that the topping is gonna be crispy,
01:26 and what helps it do that is the addition of oats.
01:29 Sometimes there's also nuts added in the topping.
01:32 A cobbler has more of a biscuity topping
01:34 that's sometimes poured on like a batter.
01:35 Start by adding in a little flour and our oats,
01:39 a little bit of baking soda and baking powder,
01:42 and then brown sugar.
01:43 Gonna mix this up well.
01:45 I'm adding in my melted butter,
01:46 and then I'm gonna mix it with a fork
01:48 until it's nice and crumbly.
01:49 Smells good.
01:51 See, since there's oats in it,
01:53 I can justify this for breakfast.
01:55 This also comes together really nicely with pears,
01:57 which are also super flavorful in the fall.
02:00 All right, our topping is all crumbly,
02:03 and we're going to add it liberally to the top.
02:06 And there's gonna be a lot of moisture in there,
02:08 so it's okay that it falls into these crevices.
02:10 That's what's gonna help it kinda thicken up.
02:13 As you can see, this dessert comes together
02:14 in a matter of seconds.
02:16 This is a great thing to whip up
02:17 if you've got last-minute company coming over
02:19 because it's really just pantry staples
02:21 plus a little fruit.
02:22 So if you've got the fruit, this is possible
02:24 at any time.
02:25 This goes into a 350-degree oven for about 45 minutes
02:29 or until it's all golden brown, crisp on top,
02:33 and gooey and bubbly underneath.
02:34 Look at this gooey, bubbly goodness.
02:40 Oh, it smells good.
02:41 Let's do the crunch test.
02:42 That's an apple crisp.
02:46 Let's get the ice cream.
02:49 Wait for the magic to happen.
02:54 Little drizzle on top.
02:56 See that?
02:59 Said this before, this is probably one of the OG
03:02 perfect bites of all time
03:03 'cause you have the hot, saucy fruit
03:07 with the crunchy topping and the cold ice cream.
03:11 It's everything I just said.
03:14 Mm!
03:15 After this cools, you can just keep it stored
03:16 in the fridge for a few days.
03:18 And while it's delicious like this hot,
03:20 it's also just as good when it's cold.
03:23 This apple crisp is perfection.
03:25 You gotta make it.
03:27 Happy fall, y'all.
03:28 Man, that's good.
