00:00 Welcome back to the Doc's Diagnosis presented by Accenture's Federal Credit Union.
00:03 I'm Travis Justice.
00:04 He's Dr. Rob Zadiska.
00:05 And Dr. Rob, it was a thing of beauty on Friday night because, and I don't care who runs it,
00:11 but when the read option works, it looks just like a great play.
00:16 Any option is a beautiful thing.
00:18 I love it whether it's a read option, triple option, wishbone, it doesn't matter.
00:23 So kind of the thing here that I want people to really key in on is that when you have
00:27 an option play, the design of the play is such that you leave a defender unblocked.
00:34 That's your option guy.
00:35 And you're going to force that guy to have to choose between covering two different offensive
00:40 players.
00:41 And on this particular play, here's your option play, number eight, he's going to come into
00:45 the backfield and kind of get held up right there trying to decide, is he going to take
00:49 the quarterback or is he going to take the running back?
00:53 He's got to pick and choose which of those guys he's going to take.
00:56 And the pause created by that designed indecision is what makes an option play work.
01:03 The other thing that I want people to pay attention to is Ethan Piper right here gets
01:07 a really, really nice block.
01:09 Again, I tend to be hard on the offensive line.
01:12 Nice job by Ethan on this play where he comes around on a pull and does a great job sealing
01:18 off the linebacker right here.
01:20 And that's probably, in my opinion, the key block on the play that really springs Harburg.
01:26 So we go ahead and we kind of advance the play a little bit right here.
01:31 And this is the point where when you look at this point, you've got the defender right
01:36 here.
01:39 He sees the fact that Harburg's keeping the ball.
01:41 He knows that.
01:42 The problem is...
01:43 Look at his weight right here.
01:44 Exactly.
01:45 You see how off balance he is?
01:48 That's because he had his eyes on the running back previously and now he realizes Harburg
01:52 kept the ball on that zone read.
01:55 Ethan Piper's around the corner getting a really nice block right there.
02:00 It's this right here though that you pointed out.
02:02 It's that he's off balance.
02:05 He's not going to be able to reset his feet and make that tackle.
02:10 And it's that kind of indecision on an option play that makes this go.
02:16 Once Harburg gets ahead of Steem, hits the 10-yard line, that's a guy who can fall forward
02:21 8 or 9 yards and get that touchdown.
02:23 It really demonstrates what a split second means in the game of football.
02:28 It's a total cliche, but the whole game of inches thing, that's all you need on a solid
02:33 option play.
02:34 And this is one they blocked very well.
02:36 They executed this one perfectly and you see what happens when it works.
02:40 Of course it's a bye week coming up for Nebraska.
02:42 If you want to know Dr. Rob's thoughts on the bye week, make sure to subscribe to the
