00:00 Before watching the video, I remind you that there is more content on the Hotpot website.
00:03 Uganda, the country of the East Africa, has already implemented a multi-use plastic ban in 2009.
00:11 However, because these policies are not strictly implemented, the problem of disposable plastic is getting worse.
00:17 According to the data from the Uganda State Environment Bureau,
00:19 the plastic waste produced by Uganda every day is up to 600 tons.
00:24 Most of this plastic waste flows into the fields, parks and lakes,
00:29 causing flooding and even flooding.
00:33 In order to reduce the damage caused by plastic waste to the environment,
00:36 Uganda, an environmental organization, began to recycle plastic waste and make it into school bags,
00:41 which are free to give to local students.
00:43 This not only reduces waste, but also trains young generations to become environmental ambassadors.
00:48 Let's follow the camera to see how they use this disposable plastic to make it reborn.
00:56 Thousands of plastic bags piled up like mountains,
00:59 destroying the original green and bright face of the Kampala area.
01:02 As the population of Uganda increases, the local plastic waste increases fivefold,
01:06 and the situation has even reached a worrying point.
01:09 Many businesses and organizations go to the field to recycle plastic waste every day in response to environmental protection.
01:14 But compared to the huge amount of waste, their efforts are just a cup of water.
01:19 I can collect 190 kilograms per day.
01:24 So if you calculate, you can't imagine the real measure.
01:28 The year I last collected this plastic waste, because I have taken three years on this ground.
01:33 Cleaning, drying, boiling, and sewing.
01:38 The plastic waste collected from the field is shaken by the hands of several women,
01:43 and becomes the school bag that local students carry on their backs every day.
01:46 So this is our school bag. It's waterproof, it's durable, it's sustainable, and it is locally handmade.
01:54 A school bag makes 15 plastic bags reborn.
01:57 By embroidering such a label on the school bag,
01:59 the organization hopes to teach children the importance of environmental protection.
02:03 The founder of the organization said that the disposable plastic problem in Uganda is difficult to solve,
02:07 because the speed of Uganda's recycling of plastic is far less than that of people throwing away plastic waste.
02:13 The problem is really too big that even the recycling rate in Uganda is only 1%.
02:19 There are no solutions that can solve plastic.
02:22 And yet we have a lot of companies that produce plastic,
02:26 but we have few companies that recycle plastic or give plastic a second life.
02:31 Businesses and organizations engaged in environmental protection work say that
02:34 the power to solve the problem of plastic waste is far from enough.
02:39 They call on the government of Uganda to send out policies to promote environmental protection
02:43 and to improve the problem of plastic waste in a comprehensive way.
