00:02 - Okay, a subject that we've talked about quite a bit
00:05 here on the show and I'm following it, Mike.
00:07 You know, I don't care what happens in like Vermont,
00:09 but I do care what happens in Florida
00:11 in terms of sports betting.
00:12 And this is a saga that just continues.
00:15 We got another company jumping in with this West Flagler
00:18 trying to push them also over the top saying,
00:21 do not allow sports betting.
00:22 I know that there is a hearing coming up in December,
00:25 which tells me there's no sports betting this year
00:28 in Florida.
00:29 I mean, I would guess, Mike, that 2024 is gonna be a year
00:34 that Florida is gonna push sports betting through,
00:37 but that's not making people happy for this year.
00:39 I don't see that happening in this calendar year, do you?
00:42 - Yeah, Craig, just tough to say at this point
00:46 because like you said, there's so many steps.
00:47 Now there's kind of a two front battle
00:49 in the US Supreme Court and then the State Supreme Court
00:52 of Florida.
00:53 So yeah, right now the mandate is in play, right?
00:55 That Florida gaming compact last week,
00:58 the district court said that that's a go.
01:00 So technically Seminole Tribe and Hard Rock,
01:03 they could launch at any point.
01:04 They're allowed to do that.
01:05 They can do anything because the mandate is back in place
01:08 after it had gone through the court system.
01:10 But again, yeah, like you said,
01:11 does Hard Rock and Seminoles wait to see what happens
01:16 in both these court cases so they don't have to start
01:18 the app relaunch and then potentially shut it down
01:21 in a month or two like they had to in late 2021.
01:24 So, I mean, we'll see right, like you said,
01:27 No Casinos, which is a nonprofit,
01:29 a watchdog organization that doesn't want
01:31 a gambling expansion in Florida.
01:33 They're filed an extension for amicus brief.
01:36 So that's due, I think October 16th,
01:37 that's in the state court case.
01:39 They had also filed amicus brief in the federal court case.
01:41 So obviously, like you said,
01:42 they're in support of West Flagler.
01:43 They don't want the gaming expansion.
01:45 That's kind of the state court case will be,
01:48 is expanded gambling in violation
01:50 of the Florida constitution.
01:52 That case will go on who knows how many months.
01:54 And then you have this impending filing
01:56 with West Flagler in the US Supreme Court.
01:58 And again, whether the Supreme Court decides
02:00 to hear that case, how long that's gonna take.
02:02 Then if they do decide to hear it,
02:03 it could be like you said, months, who knows, year.
02:05 I don't know at this point.
02:07 It's all speculation to know when it's gonna go.
02:09 But like you said, I mean, for 2024,
02:11 every day that this goes on and you see more filings,
02:13 briefs, more people getting involved,
02:15 the two front battle in the court system.
02:17 Yeah, I mean, I think 2024,
02:18 it's tough to see right now, but we'll see.
02:20 I mean, nobody really knows besides these court justices
02:25 making these rulings really at this point.
02:28 And so again, we're in this process
02:29 where every Florida sports better is gonna wanna know
02:32 when can I bet legally?
02:32 And unfortunately, we just don't have the answers right now.
