00:03 And I don't know why I make cookies, I raise babies, I make clothes, I sing like I don't get it
00:09 Hey y'all, this is Jesse James Decker and you're watching Billboard News
00:13 I'm hanging out with Jesse James Decker in her home. Thank you for having us
00:30 I mean you guys wouldn't believe that right before this there were kids running around
00:33 There were three dogs all that madness and then she pulls it together
00:37 So, how is it to like are they used to having people here?
00:40 You know what?
00:41 They're not really fazed by anything too much not around it too much but enough where they're like they know what's up
00:45 So let's talk about I'm gonna love you great song
00:53 So tell me how it was to be put that new piece of music out
00:55 This has been a song I've held on to since 2020. I wrote it in 2020 with Emily Shackleton and Liz Rose
01:01 We'd like the most incredible songwriters in town. It was a song
01:05 I just loved so much and I felt like my team wouldn't let me put it out for so long
01:10 It wasn't that they didn't like it. I was like, let's wait. Let's wait. Let's wait and finally I'm like, I'm not waiting anymore
01:15 I was playing it live on tour. The crowd would go wild. I just felt like it was the right time to put this song out
01:22 I'm gonna love you
01:24 The rest of my life
01:27 It shows a side of me that I think no one's ever seen before it's vulnerable. It's soulful
01:33 My heart's really just all in soul. Oh, it's just one of my absolute favorites. So I'm really glad that it's out there
01:38 Your last song was I still love you
01:47 But how was it to put that song out the music video to perform with Billy Cullington at the Opry?
01:52 I mean, why did you decide to work on this song with him? So Billy's an old friend of mine
01:56 I've known Billy since I was super young really starting out. He is actually one of the
02:02 Reasons, do you hear the kids in the back?
02:04 Yes, they are they're getting crazy up there he's one of the reasons I honestly got one of my big breaks in Nashville
02:12 He introduced me to my publisher and my publisher has been my ride-or-die this entire time Carla Wallace at Big Yellow Dog
02:19 Have to shout her out. She's responsible for for finding and signing women like Maren Morris and Meghan Trainor
02:25 And so she just has a knack and Billy knew to set me up with her and so fast forward
02:30 I've known Billy forever. We've collaborated in the past on his record and it just made sense
02:35 You know to do something together again, and it's just like singing with family
02:39 Truthfully, he's one of my dearest friends. It's my favorite male voice in Nashville and
02:43 Our voices just sound good together. I have to say it. So it just it made all the sense to do it
02:48 Right now country is having a huge resurgence
02:55 Recently on the hot 100 the top three songs are all country artists. I know
02:59 Holmes Morgan Wallin and Jason LD. Isn't that wild? It's wild
03:03 So what do you think about country sort of having this moment?
03:06 But also like the controversy that comes with some of the artists and the moment country's having you know
03:10 What there will always be controversy and every genre and every bit of music
03:14 It's just part of it gets people fired up inside music is always gonna make you feel a type of way
03:19 You see they're gonna make you sad make you want to get up and dance
03:21 That's what makes music so incredible is it always it can just make you feel something
03:26 And that's why I love being a part of this business every genre
03:30 Has its moment, you know what? I mean? EM had its moment rock and roll had its moment
03:34 I just think that it's country's turn again. You were talking about like what comes with being in the industry
03:40 Also drama comes with the industry and your name is just always tossed up in stuff
03:44 And I don't know why I honestly I had this conversation this morning with my manager
03:49 I was like if you were really pinpoint like me. I've never done anything
03:54 I bake cookies. I raise babies. I make clothes. I sing like I don't get it
03:59 Well, that's what's gonna ask you cuz I'm like from there was like Ryan Reynolds commenting on your husband's vasectomy
04:03 Then your sister and like
04:05 Tattoos, what is it about your family? That's so captivating. I should ask you. I have no idea because I feel so normal
04:14 The reason we're in a kitchen right now
04:23 Tell me about the book and why you decided it was now time to put out a cookbook. Oh my goodness
04:28 This is definitely one of my like babies my passion. I love food
04:32 I'm such a foodie always have been was raised by amazing cooks. My mom's side is all Italian and so
04:39 They just all Italian coming over from Italy settling in Louisiana. So you've got Cajun roots
04:45 You've got Louisiana roots southern roots and that just makes for good food. I mean, yes
04:49 Flavors there. Yes, so I was just raised on great food
04:53 And so I'm just a foodie first and foremost because of that but the women in my family could cook their butts off
04:59 I just started dabbling in the kitchen early on because I had a hungry football player. I had to feed
05:04 I was tired. I'm taking Jimmy John's sandwiches every day
05:07 I started sharing those things on socials and then we had a reality show you were always seeing me in the kitchen and I just
05:12 Felt like maybe there was a demand
05:13 So I pitched the idea to write a cookbook and this is my third one and I'm so excited
05:19 They just keep getting better and better. I truthfully think but what I think sets my cookbooks apart is listen. I'm not a chef
05:26 I am NOT here to intimidate anybody or come up with all these fancy foods
05:30 I just want to make great food and help you make great food, too. Who was your favorite cook?
05:35 Well, probably my mama. Honestly, my mom is my favorite cook. But as far as like a celebrity cook, I love Giada
05:42 I just love watching everything about her. It's so warm. I love that you were inspired by your mom
05:48 I can't wait to taste more of your recipes. Thanks for having us here. Thank you for having me
05:51 This was so fun
