00:00 To further support and promote on a wider market their locally produced goods from MSMEs,

00:09 Rod Lagusa tells us the full details.
00:12 Lolita, an entrepreneur from Daram Samar, was able to help her child finish school,
00:19 who also has a job right now.
00:21 Just because of the group she belongs to, his business has helped her make ends meet.
00:25 I have my own income and I have my own store.
00:30 It's a big help for us because our group of people who are poor can help our families.
00:35 Our colleagues are able to support their livelihood.
00:43 The business of her group is production of noodles made from malunggay and pumpkin.
00:47 They are but one of the thousands of micro, small and medium enterprises the Department of Trade and Industry has helped.
00:53 Now their product is included in the Behind the Eastern Visayas trade fair organized by the agency.
00:58 Its aim is to provide a bigger market share for MSMEs.
01:02 Not only cash sales, but we also have book orders.
01:07 It's like they are regular suppliers.
01:11 It's very important for our MSMEs to earn money and to have a continuous hiring of their workers in their regions.
01:22 The trade fair is an opportunity for MSMEs to showcase their products,
01:25 which includes various handicrafts such as bags, sleeping mats among others.
01:30 It also features different delicacies found in Region 8.
01:33 It's important for our MSMEs to help because this is the marketing platform after a series of trainings conducted
01:42 and also product development of their respective products.
01:46 So, the marketing assistance or the conduct of trade fair is the ultimate.
01:52 We just recently passed the laws on one town, one product and heritage mapping to spotlight what's core and distinctive about our region.
02:01 And this is how we're trying to put together inclusive value chains so that we connect our grassroots to a more appreciative markets like Manila.
02:11 Meanwhile, there are over 8,000 negotiation centers throughout the country that people can go to for help.
02:15 The DTI helps MSMEs to further improve or polish the quality of their products.
02:20 For example, they don't have registration yet, we're still letting them register.
02:23 For example, they want to market their product or they have products that they think the packaging is not good yet,
02:32 the product needs to be developed, so that's what we're going to do.
02:36 She stressed that it is also important that the person himself wants to grow and have an entrepreneurial mindset
02:41 along with a persistence to survive and succeed no matter what challenges come his or her way.
02:48 Rod Lugusad, for The Nation.
