00:00 After PhilHealth, a system of the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA was hacked.
00:06 Will our National ID System be affected?
00:09 Witness Chino Gaston.
00:11 Do you need a copy of your birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate and other documents?
00:20 Or are you applying for National ID?
00:22 The Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA is running for that.
00:25 Aside from being a caretaker of the personal data of Filipinos, it also monitors the population, economy,
00:33 the number of workers and other information about the country.
00:37 But being a PSA was hacked.
00:40 The agency said on Saturday, October 7,
00:42 someone posted on social media about the humanoid data leak from the system that the PSA is in charge of.
00:48 They immediately investigated and contacted the authorities.
00:52 And it came out that their community-based monitoring system or CBMS was affected.
00:57 They are still investigating what personal data in the CBMS was leaked.
01:01 But the National ID System was not affected.
01:04 Our practice here is that it is really separate.
01:07 We are on a separate data center, the PSA and also the civil registry data.
01:13 The PSA is working harder to ensure that their systems and database are safe.
01:18 The PSA's hack was revealed. Now, the issue of the first data breach in PhilHealth is still not being solved.
01:24 In a budget hearing in the Senate, PhilHealth said that after shutting down their system to resolve the hacking,
01:31 their systems are slowly returning to normal in processing claims because they are one by one under the vulnerability test.
01:40 The system on the processing of claims is being turned on gradually.
01:45 So there are at least six regions right now which are already processing claims.
01:51 We target that at the end of this week, Madam Chairperson, all regions will be able to process and pay claims.
01:58 My training in futures thinking tells us that this will happen.
02:01 Let's not be surprised. We have to be prepared.
02:04 What is our action plan? What are the contingencies?
02:07 The Department of Information and Communications Technology is now saying that many security applications are expiring in agencies.
02:14 Not just PhilHealth.
02:16 The licenses on cybersecurity, on firewall, or antivirus expired in April in PhilHealth.
02:26 We have many that will expire this coming year.
02:31 The group of ScamWatch Philippines said that if you can get your personal information, like your phone number,
02:36 you can use it to access your social media accounts and from there, you can ask for money from your family and friends.
02:44 First scenario, our data is exposed. We can't do anything.
02:48 Second scenario, scammers will use this ID.
02:55 Identity theft.
02:57 Yes, identity theft.
02:58 Third scenario, this can be used as blackmail.
03:02 It can be extorted.
03:04 You can call your friends or family members.
03:07 Oh, this is unfortunate. This is the address where this is located.
03:11 That's why experts are always advised to be careful with online transactions,
03:15 such as scanning QR codes and inputting information to websites.
03:20 Also, change passwords regularly so that online scams won't be a victim.
03:25 For GMA Integrated News, who do you want as your witness?
03:30 [music]
