00:00 Oh, Anka, you'll never guess what huge Seattle cliche I'm in right now.
00:05 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the big-time guest stars
00:11 that we didn't remember had appearances on the sitcom "Frasier."
00:14 I hope that answers your question, Walter.
00:15 It's a feature of XP, very quick, very smooth. Hey, this is fun.
00:20 Number 10, Jane Lynch.
00:23 For some, Jane Lynch was a new face when she showed up as cheerleading coach
00:27 Sue Sylvester on "Glee" in 2009.
00:30 And maybe that's your problem. Bigotry is no laughing matter.
00:33 That's how Sue sees it.
00:36 Outstanding.
00:39 But Lynch had been acting on the small and big screen for two decades already,
00:43 appearing in a large number of television shows, including an episode of "Frasier" in 1996.
00:48 Well, this is nice.
00:53 Yes, it is.
00:57 I like it.
00:59 In the season four episode "A Lilith Thanksgiving," Lynch plays Cynthia,
01:05 a pretentious uptight mother whose son attends the private school
01:08 Frasier and Lilith are desperately trying to get Frederick into.
01:11 She might not be as badass as Sylvester, but Cynthia does still like to tell it like she sees it.
01:16 Now, now, Barclay is a very charming little school.
01:21 Little school?
01:22 Don't be so sensitive.
01:24 Damn your condescension.
01:26 Damn your jealousy.
01:28 Don't talk to my wife that way.
01:29 Number nine, Dan Castellaneta.
01:32 Although Dan Castellaneta is on one of the longest running and most popular television shows
01:36 of all time, it's still easy to miss him when he makes guest appearances on other shows.
01:41 Because, well, he isn't actually yellow with a few strands of hair and four fingers.
01:45 Lisa, stop the racket. I'm trying to fix your mother's camera.
01:48 Oh, easy, easy.
01:50 I'm gonna need a bigger drill.
01:55 But while he spent over 30 years as the voice of Homer Simpson,
01:59 Castellaneta has done some live action acting as well.
02:02 Like when he played a patient on Frasier in an episode that had Dr. Crane considering
02:06 seeing patients in person again.
02:07 I'm Brad Kincaid. That's not my real name.
02:11 I'll just get it off your insurance form.
02:15 And he wasn't Frasier's only famous patient that episode.
02:19 The hilarious Sarah Silverman also sat on the couch across from the good doctor in that one.
02:23 She called me milady and I called her milady.
02:26 Number 8. Lori Metcalf
02:29 Which I don't know who. Is it you?
02:32 Peek-a-boo!
02:33 Give a clue.
02:34 Peek-a-boo!
02:35 Guess I better go and sneak a peek-a-boo.
02:38 Peek-a-boo!
02:40 Actress Lori Metcalf played Frasier Crane's first wife, Nanette Guzman,
02:44 in the show's final season.
02:45 However, if this was a list of stars you forgot were on Shears,
02:49 then we would actually be talking about Emma Thompson as Guzman,
02:52 as it was she who played the character on that show in 1992.
02:55 Today is to-to-day. Freddy's turning to-to-day.
03:01 Hoot-de-hoot-de-hoot-de-hoot-de-hoot-de-hoot-de-to-day.
03:05 But for whatever reason, when Guzman's character was brought back for the spin-off in 2004,
03:09 Thompson didn't return to reprise her role.
03:12 And so, that's when Metcalf,
03:14 best known at the time for playing Jackie on Roseanne, became Nanny G.
03:18 If you knew how bored I am being Nanny G, how trapped I feel.
03:24 You have a wonderful career.
03:26 But nothing ever changes. Do you have any idea what it's like to play
03:29 the same character for 20 years?
03:32 Number 7. Jennifer Coolidge
03:36 Well, that's human nature, Dr. Crane. People neglect their exercising for many reasons.
03:42 Holidays, travel, illness, lack of time, death.
03:48 From Phoebe and Monica's ex-roommate who's now living in England on Friends
03:52 to a Polish businesswoman on Two Broke Girls,
03:54 comedic actress Jennifer Coolidge has played many different characters
03:58 and had many different accents throughout her career.
04:00 That's my boots.
04:02 Oh, it's lovely to meet ya.
04:05 What?
04:07 What the hell kind of accent is that?
04:12 Including the time she played Frederica,
04:16 a no-nonsense German physical therapist filling in for Daphne on a season 8 episode of Frasier.
04:21 Frederica is confident in what she does, and she sure doesn't take no for an answer.
04:26 Now that we think of it, she's kind of like Stifler's mom, but different.
04:29 The secret is exercise, hard work, then good food, and lots of it when you've earned it.
04:35 Number 6. Rita Wilson
04:38 There have been studies showing that men are attracted to women who look like their mother.
04:42 Mia looks exactly like our mother.
04:44 Mrs. Crane? I've only seen photos of mine, but now that you mention it, there is a resemblance.
04:52 And even a great psychiatric mind like Frasier Crane wasn't immune to this
04:56 psychological fact of human nature, as we saw in the season 7 premiere,
04:59 when he starts dating Mia Preston, a woman who looks exactly like his mother.
05:04 Do you two see what I see? My God, they could be twins.
05:07 Frasier, take it easy.
05:09 Yeah, you do see it. How could you miss it?
05:12 This is a fact that everyone around him picks up on before he does.
05:15 Rita Wilson plays Mia here. When Frasier's mother makes an appearance in season 9 as
05:20 he's trying to figure out how come his relationships don't work out,
05:23 Hester Crane is played by, of course, Rita Wilson.
05:27 But it's completely understandable. I was your first love.
05:30 Ladies, meet the competition. This is the woman against whom we have all been measured.
05:36 Number 5. Zooey Deschanel
05:38 It's like a parody of itself.
05:40 How so?
05:41 Oh, you know, double-decker buses, bobbies, little pubs. It's like Epcot, but even fakier.
05:47 So I bailed.
05:49 It's very possible you remember the season 10 episode of Frasier entitled "Kissing Cousin,"
05:54 in which Raz's younger cousin comes to visit. But don't remember that said cousin was played
05:58 by Zooey Deschanel. Because not only was 2002 only about four years into Deschanel's acting career,
06:04 but she also wasn't sporting the dark hair and bangs we've all come to associate with
06:08 this talented actress.
06:10 Listen, sweetie, why don't you go out by yourself tonight?
06:12 Oh, come on, Maribel. Have some fun.
06:15 Don't do that.
06:16 Do what, Maribel?
06:17 Knock it off. I'm serious.
06:19 However, she did still have the blonde locks the following year in the hit Christmas comedy "Elf."
06:23 How many of us remember she was in that movie?
06:26 Number 4. Laura Linney
06:37 It can be a little embarrassing to admit you need help in the romance department. Please, come in.
06:41 No, this was a mistake.
06:43 I understand. Come in.
06:46 Actress Laura Linney appeared in more episodes of the show than anyone else on our list,
06:52 and played a significant role in the final season and series finale as well.
06:57 Linney played Charlotte, a matchmaker who Frasier falls hard for,
07:01 even after discovering that she had scammed him out of $10,000.
07:05 And if you'll let me, I'm gonna find someone fantastic for you too, Frasier,
07:08 because you deserve it.
07:09 And because you have my $10,000.
07:11 Are you gonna mention that every time you say that?
07:15 Linney appeared in five episodes that final season,
07:18 including one in which she and Frasier break up rather than pursue their relationship long distance.
07:23 But, as Frasier fans remember, the series ends with Frasier foregoing a television
07:28 opportunity in San Francisco in order to go to Chicago in an attempt to make things work
07:33 with Charlotte.
07:34 Well, I just know I'd always regret it if I didn't take the chance.
07:36 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Chicago.
07:40 For your safety, the captain is asking you to remain seated.
07:43 Wish me luck.
07:44 Number three, Michael Keaton.
07:46 Well, the truth is I've been in a terrible accident.
07:49 I've lost all feeling from my waist down.
07:51 The doctors tell me I'll be like this for the rest of my life.
07:53 Oh, hi, everybody. Blaine Sterner.
07:55 Yes, it's true. Batman was on an episode of Frasier.
07:58 However, rather than playing a superhero on the show,
08:01 Michael Keaton played Lilith's half-brother Blaine Sternan.
08:04 He was an unscrupulous con artist who had conned Frasier in the past,
08:08 but appeared to have changed his ways following a car accident that left him using a wheelchair.
08:13 Hey, you know, this is, uh, this is really gonna help some needy people now that I know what the
08:18 heck it is.
08:18 Appearances can be deceiving, though.
08:22 Just as Bruce Wayne was able to keep his alter ego a secret from the folks in Gotham City,
08:27 so too was Blaine eventually able to convince Frasier of his good intentions
08:30 while successfully accomplishing his more nefarious goals.
08:34 Number two, Bill Gates.
08:39 Ladies and gentlemen, let's please welcome Microsoft chairman Bill Gates.
08:43 Good to see you, sir.
08:45 Sorry I was late.
08:46 Oh, that's all right.
08:46 Just talking to an old friend.
08:48 Yes.
08:53 According to his IMDb page, Bill Gates has only made three appearances on television shows.
08:58 Silicon Valley, The Big Bang Theory, and his acting debut in 2001 on the 200th episode of Frasier.
09:06 Gates played himself, appearing as a guest on The Doctor's 2000th show
09:10 ostensibly to congratulate him and do an interview.
09:13 A fan of my show?
09:14 Excuse me, Warren from Kirkland is online too.
09:18 Yes, Roz, I won't be taking any calls until after Mr. Gates has left.
09:22 Actually, it's for Mr. Gates.
09:23 However, once he arrives,
09:25 Frasier's audience bombards the station with calls for the Microsoft chairman.
09:29 Within minutes, Frasier has been pushed aside and Gates has taken over the show,
09:33 even using The Doctor's "I'm listening" catchphrase to greet the callers.
09:37 Who do we have next, Roz?
09:39 We have Bob from Fremont. He has a question about his laptop.
09:42 Go ahead, Bob. I'm listening.

10:01 Seems like every sitcom in the 90s and early 2000s had to have one episode
10:09 in which a straight character is comically suspected of being gay.
10:12 Do you want a date Saturday?
10:14 Yes, please.
10:15 Okay.
10:15 He is cute. He's funny.
10:20 He's a he?
10:21 Well, yeah.
10:21 In the case of Frasier, that happened in season 11 when Frasier went to a gay bar
10:26 to find out what the sexual orientation of Roz's boyfriend was.
10:29 My furniture polisher.
10:30 Don't tell me you put away paste and shaggy for life as a barkeep.
10:34 I just do this on the side.
10:36 Oh, well, but you're surprised to see me in here.
10:38 Okay.
10:40 This makes everyone believe Frasier himself is attracted to men,
10:45 and leads to The Doctor accepting the flirtations from an opera director.
10:49 The latter is played by Patrick Stewart.
10:52 And Frasier goes along with things for longer than he should
10:54 because Alastair Burke has the in with the high society
10:57 that the titular character so craves to be a part of.
11:00 How it sharpens the appetite.
11:03 How it builds the intensity.
11:07 The heat, the desire.
11:08 Can you feel it?
11:10 Oh, yes, there it is.
11:11 Who was your favorite Frasier guest star?
11:15 Put down your tossed salad and scrambled eggs and leave us a comment below.
11:18 Look, Dr. Crane, the lines are hot.
11:20 Really hot.
11:21 Do you agree with our picks?
