00:00 - Nice to meet you.
00:00 (screams)
00:01 - Let's get it, let's do it, let's do it.
00:03 My name is James Dockery, our coach Dockery.
00:05 I played for the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers,
00:07 and a cup of tea for the Oakland Raiders.
00:09 After that, I came back to my hometown
00:11 of Palm Desert, California,
00:12 where I've been the coach for the last five seasons.
00:14 And today I'm gonna give Michelle a taste
00:15 of what the NFL training camp experience is like.
00:17 We're gonna teach you how to throw a football, right?
00:19 Quarterback, we'll teach you how to tackle.
00:21 We have a tackling specialist out here.
00:23 And then we'll teach you how to defend yourself.
00:24 It's very important to be able to block,
00:26 get off a block, and be able to take somebody to the ground.
00:28 It's kind of like similar to a hell week for the Navy SEALs.
00:30 It's really there to break you down physically and mentally,
00:33 and then build you back up.
00:34 - Am I going to be tackled today too?
00:37 - I think you wanna be tackled.
00:38 I think you do.
00:39 So we're gonna try and make that happen.
00:40 All right, I think it's time to get you suited up.
00:42 - Okay, let's do this.
00:43 - Let's get this gear.
00:44 (dramatic music)
00:57 - The first thing we're gonna work on today
00:59 is our throwing mechanics, okay?
01:00 So I brought one of my coaches, Coach Carl.
01:03 He's my quarterback coach.
01:04 - Coach Carl!
01:04 - And offensive coordinator, set records this year.
01:06 It was big time.
01:07 - Biggest thing when throwing the football,
01:09 you wanna have a dominant grip on the football.
01:12 So you wanna have these last three fingers gripping it.
01:14 - When you follow through,
01:15 it's like you're taking money out of your opposite pocket.
01:17 So I'm gonna follow through,
01:18 and then I'm gonna act like I'm taking that dollar bill out.
01:21 - Okay.
01:21 - Say, "Hut, set, hut."
01:22 - Down, set, hut.
01:24 This is so cool.
01:25 To get to say that.
01:26 - Oh yeah, this is awesome, right?
01:27 - Yeah, this is the best part.
01:28 - You guys, okay.
01:28 Do I have to say it in a deep voice?
01:30 - However you want.
01:31 - Say it how you mean it.
01:31 Say it like you mean it.
01:32 (dramatic music)
01:35 - Okay, here we go.
01:36 Down, set, hut.
01:37 - Yeah, okay.
01:38 Go back, forward, right, back, throw.
01:42 Good. - Good job.
01:43 - Excellent. - Good job.
01:44 - Forward, back, back.
01:47 That was excellent.
01:48 - Oh, oh yeah, oh yeah.
01:50 I'll just go ahead and score that one.
01:51 - Beautiful.
01:52 - Look at the little spin.
01:53 - I'm available for the draft.
01:53 - We'll take that.
01:54 (laughing)
01:55 - Down, set, hut.
01:57 (screaming)
01:58 - Oh, Fumble, get on the ball, get on the ball,
01:59 get on the ball, get on it, get on it, get on it.
02:00 Hey, that happens.
02:01 The most important thing is the ball.
02:03 The ball, we like to say in football,
02:04 especially in the NFL,
02:05 the ball is worth millions of dollars, right?
02:07 If they can get that ball, change their lives forever.
02:09 - I was able to get two degrees in education
02:12 and football paid for both of those.
02:14 I was able to, you know, buy my first house.
02:16 I was able to do a lot of things in my life
02:18 from like a socioeconomic standpoint
02:20 to be able to improve my situation in life through the game.
02:22 - So now we're gonna play a little game.
02:24 The goal of this game is real simple.
02:25 You're gonna take this ball
02:26 and you're gonna try to hit the goalpost.
02:27 All the coaches are gonna be in this, all right?
02:29 It's a competition.
02:30 So whoever hits it first clearly wins.
02:32 We'll do 10 pushups for the losers.
02:34 All right, here we go.
02:35 Yup.
02:37 (laughing)
02:39 Oh, oh my, I don't say like, first one.
02:43 Bingo.
02:45 Oh!
02:46 Yeah, right, the linebacker coach.
02:49 Oh!
02:50 (cheering)
02:50 Linebacker coach, get out of here.
02:53 - Nailed it.
02:54 - Nailed it, first try.
02:56 Out the gate.
02:57 All righty.
02:58 This guy doesn't even know how to throw.
03:00 It's the linebacker coach.
03:01 Linebacker coach, D coordinator.
03:03 He beats us at the throwing game.
03:04 I don't like this game.
03:05 Ooh.
03:07 - Game number two.
03:08 - Game two.
03:09 - Around you right now.
03:10 - Nick again.
03:10 - Oh my God!
03:11 - Oh my God!
03:12 - Like this is the luckiest day of his life.
03:15 - Move this guy back.
03:16 - This is the luckiest day of his life.
03:17 So now this one, like how in the quarterback drills
03:19 we're saying keep your shoulders square.
03:20 This one, guess what?
03:21 You're gonna aim that front shoulder a little higher up
03:23 so you can get some more elevation in the ball.
03:25 - Okay.
03:25 - Yup.
03:26 - Oh, there it is.
03:28 - Oh!
03:29 - I thought I heard it skim.
03:30 - I don't know if I heard it.
03:31 - Micah, we got it.
03:32 - I don't know.
03:33 We're gonna need some like replay.
03:35 - There it is, there it is.
03:36 - Oh!
03:38 - We just lost.
03:39 Good job, Michelle.
03:40 I'm doing way too many pushups today.
03:42 I won't even be able to live this down.
03:43 Like it probably lives forever.
03:44 So I gotta get one.
03:45 From the 25.
03:46 - Come on, James.
03:48 - Another rep.
03:49 - Oh my God, oh my.
03:51 - That's it.
03:52 All you guys get buffed.
03:53 All you guys get buffed.
03:54 - So for now, we got Coach Ixalis and Coach Rover.
03:59 They're gonna be your linebackers/defensive coaches.
04:01 They're gonna help you learn how to take down people, right?
04:04 That's one of the biggest things of football,
04:05 being able to get somebody on the ground.
04:06 - Let me teach you how to get
04:07 into a proper linebacker stance, all right?
04:09 So here, here.
04:10 Balls of our feet, a nice, comfortable forward lean.
04:12 That's pretty good.
04:13 Almost a little bit further than shoulder width.
04:15 Yup, butt down.
04:16 You gotta go straight back.
04:17 Good pocket, that's good, right there.
04:18 Right there, that's pretty good.
04:19 And our hands, I mean, you can use some,
04:21 linebackers do that.
04:22 I like to be relaxed, you know, a little swag too,
04:24 you know, have it relaxed.
04:25 - Yeah, you get in their head.
04:26 This is the part where you're like
04:27 messing with them on the line, yeah?
04:28 - That's perfect, yup, yup.
04:29 And then the next one here,
04:30 I like to start you off with a five cone drill.
04:32 And this simulates open field tackling,
04:34 basically with just you and him.
04:35 It's one of the hardest tackles.
04:36 So you start in this stance right here.
04:38 As I say go, you're gonna sprint.
04:40 As you get to this cone, break down,
04:42 chop your feet, keep your feet alive.
04:44 And once I do that, Ryan's gonna wait.
04:46 He'll pick a direction.
04:46 I step this way and save it.
04:48 - So you're picking him up?
04:49 - I mean, that's what you wanna do,
04:52 but it doesn't usually happen like that.
04:53 You're like, nice stance, let's see this stance.
04:56 - Good.
04:56 - Okay, there you go, there you go.
04:58 That's good, on the balls of our feet, right?
04:59 Nice, come forward lean.
05:01 Set, go.
05:02 - Those feet.
05:04 Get your head across and finish the tackle, good.
05:06 Extend up.
05:07 - Okay.
05:08 - Yeah, that's my bad, that's my bad.
05:09 - Don't cross over, it was good.
05:11 - Go.
05:11 - Good.
05:15 - Good job, good job.
05:16 - She got it.
05:17 - All right, you might wanna put your helmet on, Michelle.
05:18 - Okay.
05:19 - So what you're gonna do,
05:20 the same thing that these guys just taught you,
05:21 well, you're gonna go through him now.
05:23 Defense is kind of like a,
05:25 we always say it's a desired collision in your heart
05:26 because you gotta run through the guy.
05:28 And it's not something that is timid, right?
05:30 Mass times acceleration equals?
05:31 - Winning.
05:32 - So, exactly.
05:33 - There you go.
05:34 - That's right.
05:34 - Knock him out.
05:35 - Oh my God.
05:36 - I sure don't know what's coming.
05:38 - Freaky.
05:39 - Go.
05:41 - Get in there, okay?
05:44 Let's go.
05:46 I'll take that.
05:47 There we go.
05:48 - This is all you wanted to do the video for.
05:49 - Right through him.
05:50 - This is what you've been waiting to do.
05:51 - Right through him, good.
05:52 - Can I do it again?
05:52 No, I'm lost.
05:53 - Yeah, go ahead.
05:55 - There you go.
05:57 - Stay lower next time.
05:57 - Hey, that's not bad,
05:58 but you stopped right before you got there, right?
06:00 - I slowed it down.
06:00 - So all that mass and acceleration.
06:01 - Okay.
06:02 - So let's punish this bag.
06:03 - He watched the video, but didn't subscribe.
06:04 - What the hell, man?
06:06 - You got it.
06:07 - You got it.
06:07 - Go.
06:08 - Subscribe.
06:10 - There we go.
06:11 - Okay, okay.
06:12 - You better subscribe.
06:13 - Subscribe, Demi.
06:13 - That's right.
06:14 - There we go.
06:16 - Now that will be a flag.
06:17 - Subscribe next time.
06:19 - So now we're going to do some linebacker agility drills.
06:22 - Ooh.
06:23 - All right.
06:23 - On defense, we're always moving.
06:24 We've always got to stay on top of our feet.
06:26 When we start taking long steps
06:27 or we start getting our legs out in front of us,
06:29 that's when we start making mistakes.
06:30 So something that we go through every single day,
06:32 very, very baseline is what we call our bag drills.
06:34 We're going to do two in each.
06:36 Stay low.
06:36 Next thing you say down,
06:37 say go and it's boom, boom, boom.
06:39 And then you're going to go.
06:40 And you're going right at Renshi.
06:42 - Am I taking him to the ground?
06:43 - Take him out of the game.
06:44 - Yeah, you're knocking him out.
06:44 - Okay.
06:45 - Take Richard out of the game.
06:46 Shoulder square, one over.
06:47 There's always got to be a point of contact to the floor.
06:49 So boom, boom, boom.
06:50 Always got to be one at least.
06:51 - Ooh, okay.
06:52 - Set, go.
06:54 - Good, good.
06:56 - Oh, there you go.
06:57 - Good, Michelle hit it.
06:58 (cheering)
06:59 - Keep your head up.
07:00 - That's a good job.
07:01 That's just like what linebackers do all game.
07:02 Shuffle, shuffle, find the running back in the gap
07:04 and we go downhill real quick to stop him.
07:05 - I'm more scared of that thing than I should be, I think.
07:08 - Nah, well.
07:09 - Bring the pain, Michelle.
07:09 Bring the pain.
07:10 - Okay, okay.
07:11 - I'm as scared as you.
07:12 - Go, go, go, go.
07:13 - We got to go through.
07:14 (cheering)
07:15 - That's a big hit.
07:16 - Good job.
07:17 - Stay low, good.
07:17 - Yes.
07:20 - Good.
07:22 - Get that back.
07:22 - Good, Michelle.
07:23 (laughing)
07:24 - Plant, hit him.
07:25 - Go get him.
07:26 - Boom.
07:27 - Hey, hey.
07:27 - Boom.
07:28 - Good job.
07:29 - She's a backer, bro.
07:30 - Good job.
07:31 - That's a good rep.
07:32 - All right, Michelle, we got a little bit
07:32 of a heavier object for you.
07:34 And now this right here,
07:35 you're going to really have to pump your legs.
07:37 - About two yards away, yard two.
07:39 - That close?
07:40 - Yep, that close.
07:41 - Strike the bag, put our arms around,
07:43 bring the hips, and drive our feet, drive our legs.
07:46 - How heavy is this?
07:46 - This is not light.
07:47 - It's not light.
07:48 - It's not light, 55.
07:49 - It's heavy enough to send you backwards
07:51 if you don't keep running your feet.
07:51 - Yep, yep.
07:52 - Oh my God, this is like what happens in movies.
07:55 Like in the montage of Remember the Titans.
07:57 Okay.
07:58 - Yeah.
07:59 - Set, go.
08:00 - Okay, not bad, not bad.
08:03 Good, good, good.
08:04 All right, whistle, whistle.
08:05 Whee, whee, whee.
08:05 Whistle, whistle, whistle.
08:06 Good job, good job, good job, good job.
08:08 (laughing)
08:09 - Okay, now for speed.
08:10 Don't let up when you're about to make contact.
08:11 Go through him.
08:12 - Set, go.
08:13 Through it, good.
08:14 - Good.
08:15 - Drive, drive, drive, drive.
08:16 - Leg, leg, leg, leg, leg, leg, leg.
08:17 - Good, good, good.
08:18 - Good job, good.
08:18 - All right.
08:19 - Good round.
08:20 - Yeah, I think that's enough.
08:21 - Oh my God.
08:22 Dude, Richard was JV over there.
08:25 - Yeah, this is big Richard.
08:25 - He's pro over here.
08:26 (laughing)
08:27 - All right, Michelle, you were asking for this one.
08:29 Come on over here.
08:29 We have permission from your fiance to tackle you.
08:32 We're gonna open it up a little bit.
08:32 - Oh my God.
08:33 - And we're gonna juke this guy.
08:35 All right, where's the ball at?
08:36 Let me go grab that ball.
08:37 (laughing)
08:38 - Oh my God.
08:38 - Oh my God.
08:39 (screaming)
08:40 (laughing)
08:41 - You're so scary.
08:42 - I'm not.
08:43 - I'm not.
08:44 - Let's go.
08:45 - Oh, you guys definitely gotta add
08:46 that Western music on this part.
08:48 (upbeat music)
08:50 I'm a little nervous that Michelle wants to get tackled
08:53 and she wants to tackle someone.
08:55 The coach that I have for her is around 200 pounds.
08:57 I'm not gonna ask Michelle how much she weighs,
08:59 but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be
09:00 a little discrepancy there, so we'll see.
09:02 - So you were a collegiate level competitive linebacker.
09:06 - Yes.
09:07 (laughing)
09:08 - Is that scary to them?
09:10 - Yeah, dude.
09:10 (laughing)
09:12 - You got it, MK, let's go.
09:14 You're gonna inspire some little girl somewhere
09:16 and she's gonna be like, "Hey, I can do this now."
09:17 - Okay, you're right.
09:19 - Down.
09:23 Set, go.
09:25 (laughing)
09:31 - The cone's in here.
09:32 (laughing)
09:33 The cone's in here.
09:34 - I was like, "Oh, damn."
09:35 - Oh, wait, I didn't know I had to stay over here.
09:36 - Yeah, you gotta stay in the cone.
09:38 - No one said that.
09:40 So I'm actively trying to get past you.
09:42 - Yeah, go score.
09:42 - Yeah, that's fine, go score.
09:43 He's got the rest.
09:44 He's got the rest.
09:46 Down.
09:47 Set, go.
09:48 (laughing)
09:51 - Good job.
09:54 You wanna try to get him down?
09:55 You wanna do what we taught you and take coach down?
09:58 - Oh, I can take you down now?
09:59 - Yeah, go ahead.
10:00 - So you get low on that side.
10:02 - Wrap.
10:02 - Roll the same side.
10:03 - Wrap and then roll.
10:04 - Yep, and then roll.
10:05 - And then we'll twist with you.
10:06 - Exactly, yep.
10:07 - Yep, yep.
10:07 - Exactly.
10:08 - I'll go down.
10:09 (laughing)
10:10 - Good, good.
10:11 Just commit, like you're not gonna hurt me.
10:13 - You're not gonna hurt me.
10:14 - All right, here we go.
10:15 Nice stance.
10:16 Get your linebacker stance like he taught you, right?
10:18 He taught you a good linebacker stance, you got it.
10:20 Set, go.
10:21 Good.
10:22 Oh, hey.
10:23 (clapping)
10:24 Hey, that's big.
10:25 That's big.
10:26 - Are you okay?
10:27 - That was violent.
10:28 - Are you okay?
10:29 - He's hurt, he's hurt.
10:29 - That was fun to be around.
10:30 (laughing)
10:31 - That was good.
10:32 Good job.
10:33 - It's such a rush.
10:34 You guys are crazy awesome.
10:35 - You definitely get a rush.
10:36 You definitely, and then imagine the stadium's
10:38 nice and packed, right?
10:39 In high school, not as much, but NFL, 60,000 people,
10:42 100,000 people in college.
10:43 It gets really fun.
10:44 - And everyone watching at home.
10:45 - Exactly.
10:46 I knew I wanted to be a pro athlete at a very young age.
10:48 So finally running through that tunnel
10:50 and just seeing the crowd and everybody like go crazy.
10:52 There's Aaron Rodgers running out
10:54 from the other side of the stadium.
10:55 I can't just play with him and Madden.
10:56 I'm not watching him on TV.
10:58 I'm not trading his trading card.
11:00 I have to go stop him.
11:01 And so that was a surreal moment.
11:03 And it was one that I'll remember forever.
11:05 We'll transition from quarterback to receiver.
11:09 So the first one I'm going to do for you,
11:11 this is called a box drill.
11:12 We want to get around these cones, right?
11:14 I'm going to come around, getting around here,
11:17 getting around here.
11:18 Then you're going to have a ball.
11:20 And what I like to tell people is pretend
11:22 that you're beating the drums, right?
11:23 Perfect.
11:24 - Whoa.
11:25 - And why are we pumping the arms like this?
11:26 Because we're giving the defender an illusion
11:28 that I'm running fast.
11:30 I'm running, I'm running.
11:31 And then I can break down around the cone.
11:33 - So there's some acting.
11:34 - There's a lot of acting.
11:35 - Okay.
11:36 - There's a lot of acting.
11:36 It's a cat and mouse game between the DB and the receiver.
11:38 All right, down, set, go.
11:40 Good.
11:43 - Stay low.
11:44 - Get around that cone.
11:44 Good, now sprint, sprint, sprint, sprint.
11:46 Oh!
11:47 - There we go.
11:48 Almost, almost.
11:49 - We got to catch that football, but that's not bad.
11:50 - You want to try to catch the small part of that ball.
11:52 - We want to make a diamond like that.
11:53 Okay, yep.
11:54 - That little point of the ball
11:55 is going to fit right in there.
11:57 Set, go.
11:57 That's a good stance.
11:58 Get around the cone.
11:59 Good, good.
12:00 Get around that one.
12:01 Good job.
