The ACT voted "yes" for a Voice to Parliament, despite the referendum defeat. Here is what voters told us on referendum day.
Transcript
00:00 How are you planning on voting today?
00:01 I'm planning on voting yes.
00:03 What's your reasoning for that?
00:05 I reckon everyone's opinion matters in a way,
00:07 but I think everyone needs a voice that needs to be heard.
00:13 I'm part of the #Illiberal4Yes campaign
00:15 and we know that it's going to be concerning things
00:18 for the polls across the country,
00:20 but let's hope that ACT and POS will get to the project.
00:23 And how have you both voted today?
00:25 I voted yes.
00:27 And what's your reasoning?
00:29 I just think it's the right thing to do at the moment.
00:33 It's important to get recognition
00:35 and just supporting the communities just begins.
00:39 There's a lot more benefit voting yes than voting no,
00:43 so something good's probably going to come out of it.
00:47 How have you voted for the Voice Department today?
00:50 We voted yes.
00:51 And what's your reasoning?
00:53 I think it's long overdue.
00:55 Yes, it is long overdue,
00:57 but not now or when.
00:59 In fact, I worry about when Gartimora-Litten though gets up.
01:02 There will be more headlines being made about Australia.
01:05 We don't have a leg to stand on in the future
01:08 if we want to criticise countries
01:10 that lean to their minority groups
01:12 because we're future-oriented.
01:14 What are your thoughts on the Voice
01:16 and how do you plan to vote today?
01:19 Emphatically, very yes.
01:22 Yes, I agree.
01:24 We'd love to see this get up.
01:26 It's been a long time due to overdue
01:28 to have recognition in the Constitution.
01:31 From my own perspective,
01:33 I see the Voice as an opportunity
01:35 to have a different discussion and engagement
01:37 than what we've just come through,
01:39 which is very important.
01:41 Thank you.
