00:00 Who's to blame for this loss in your eyes?
00:03 - Well, that's a good question.
00:04 So I asked Twitter what they thought.
00:07 They're putting it mostly on Kyle.
00:10 The choices were Kyle, O-line, Brock Purdy, Jake Moody.
00:13 Most of them said Kyle, I think, and then Jake Moody,
00:17 and then the O-line, and then Brock Purdy last.
00:20 I think those are the four major factors on this one.
00:24 I'm gonna put Kyle above all of them
00:26 because he's the head coach and it's his team.
00:28 They didn't seem like they came out ready from the jump.
00:32 I didn't like the game plan.
00:34 Kyle is one and nine versus Jim Schwartz.
00:37 Maybe that was in his head, I don't know,
00:38 but they're fighting for the game,
00:40 not really dialed in, not focused.
00:42 I didn't like the game plan.
00:45 I didn't like some of that moves Kyle made.
00:47 So I'm gonna put it on Kyle first and foremost,
00:49 but I think everybody on that list
00:51 deserves some blame to this one.
00:54 I don't know if you wanna jump on those ones,
00:55 but Brock Purdy played bad.
00:59 We gotta be honest about it.
01:00 Doesn't mean he's gonna play bad moving forward,
01:02 but he played bad.
01:03 He didn't have a good game.
01:05 I think he had a 55% rating.
01:07 He was, what, 12 for, what was, 27?
01:10 He threw an interception.
01:12 He had one touchdown.
01:13 If you wanna call it that,
01:14 it's more like a running touchdown to me from CMC.
01:17 It was a little pitch forward and CMC took it 13 yards.
01:20 He didn't have a good game.
01:21 He missed a lot of wide open guys.
01:22 He threw three interceptable balls.
01:24 The Cleveland's defense is very good, Grant.
01:27 Like they're very good.
01:28 A lot of quarterbacks have struggled against them.
01:31 I ran the numbers on them.
01:33 We can go over that if you want,
01:34 but bottom line is Brock Purdy didn't play good.
01:37 The interception that he threw,
01:39 Brandon Iyengar was wide open.
01:40 It wasn't the defense that caused that interception.
01:42 It was an inaccurate pass from Brock Purdy.
01:45 So he deserves some blame as well.
01:48 Obviously Jake Moody missed two field goals.
01:50 He deserves blame for that, right?
01:52 You gotta make field goals.
01:53 That's why you're here.
01:54 In the NFL, you gotta make those field goals
01:56 to win the game in those situations.
01:57 And the offensive line didn't look good.
01:59 So it's all four of them deserve blame for this loss.
02:03 - It's funny.
02:04 If Moody had made one of those field goals that he missed,
02:07 Niners win.
02:08 - Yeah.
02:09 - Especially if he makes that last one,
02:10 it's kind of a gimme 41 yards.
02:11 And it's funny, he's like,
02:13 that wouldn't change anything about how Kyle Shanahan coached
02:16 or Brock Purdy played.
02:17 And yet it would change how people would perceive it.
02:21 People would say stuff like,
02:22 "Hey, you know what, Brock Purdy wasn't great,
02:25 but he was clutch.
02:26 He did enough to win the game.
02:27 And so did Kyle Shanahan.
02:29 And you know what, that's all that matters.
02:30 They're winners."
02:31 And it's all based on what Jake Moody did.
02:34 So in a sense, Jake Moody's very much to blame
02:38 for this loss.
02:39 You missed two field goals.
02:41 And I mean, he just didn't look like he was ready.
02:45 He looked like the pressure was getting to him.
02:47 I mean, honestly,
02:48 if you're looking at his face on the sideline
02:51 and you're thinking like,
02:52 "Robbie Gold's still available.
02:54 They would have won this game
02:55 if they had just had Robbie Gold."
02:57 And they have 41 million in cap space.
02:58 And it's like, "Why is Robbie not here again?
03:01 I'm sorry."
03:01 I know you want Jake Moody to be better than him,
03:04 but he's not.
03:05 So Jake's won.
03:07 And then yeah, Brock Purdy, he didn't play well.
03:10 You say Jake Moody missed a 41 yard field goal.
03:12 Well, Brock Purdy missed Christian McCaffrey deep,
03:15 wide open for a touchdown.
03:16 - That would have been a W right there.
03:18 - So how can we put it all on Jake Moody
03:20 just 'cause the timing of it?
03:22 Brock Purdy had a seven point mistake
03:25 and it was kind of a layup.
03:26 So him too.
03:29 And then Kyle as well.
03:30 Like Kyle, man, it's like Jim Schwartz was in his head
03:34 and he kept saying after the game,
03:35 "Well, we expected a grimy game."
03:37 Why?
03:38 Why?
03:39 Why would you say that to your players?
03:41 Yeah, come on.
03:42 So yeah, all of them.
03:43 - You're the best team in the NFL.
03:44 And then you brought up Moody.
03:46 Why is Moody here?
03:47 We got to watch DeJuan Jones
03:49 hold his own against Nick Bosa,
03:51 who was available when they drafted Jake Moody.
03:53 That's who I wanted him to get.
03:55 I tweeted out draft DeJuan Jones,
03:57 re-sign Robbie Gold.
03:59 You do those two things,
04:00 probably win this game today.
04:03 So that falls on Kyle.
04:04 Like we can blame Moody,
04:05 but the reason why Moody's here
04:06 is 'cause Kyle and John Lynch.
04:08 Now I'm not panicking, tripping,
04:10 thinking the season's over or anything like that.
04:12 But if we're talking about this specific game,
04:13 why the 49ers lost,
04:15 I think ultimately falls on Kyle
04:17 for numerous reasons, the way he coached.
04:21 But also just because Jake Moody,
04:23 look, this is a Super Bowl caliber team, right?
04:26 And that's what we kept hearing.
04:26 It's a win now team.
04:28 You don't head into the Super Bowl with a rookie kicker.
04:31 You get the sure bet in Robbie Gold.
04:34 That would have been the smart move.
04:36 It was always a little suspect to me
04:37 to rely on a rookie kicker.
04:39 'Cause maybe Jake Moody, this is one bad game.
04:42 He's from that area, had a lot of family there.
04:43 Maybe it was in his head, I don't know.
04:46 But maybe he bounces back.
04:48 But if the postseason started tomorrow,
04:51 what's your confidence level in Jake Moody
04:53 being able to finish off a clutch game?
04:55 It's gotta be pretty low.
04:56 - None.
04:57 - Yeah, and I think what's interesting is
04:59 it always felt like a cute move
05:01 to take Jake Moody in the third round.
05:03 You don't need a kicker.
05:05 You decided you don't want Robbie Gold anymore,
05:07 who's really good.
05:08 - Right.
05:09 - And it's just so cute to like,
05:10 okay, we're gonna draft a kicker, really high.
05:12 We don't have that many needs.
05:14 We're a great team.
05:15 And we're gonna win the Super Bowl with a rookie kicker.
05:17 Meanwhile, they could have had DeJuan Jones.
05:20 They could have actually addressed a real need.
05:23 But they're like, we don't have any needs.
05:24 We're great.
05:25 Our offensive line is fine.
05:26 We always work around our offensive line.
05:27 It's great, we love Colton Kivitz.
05:28 But their offensive line got exposed yesterday, big time.
05:32 DeJuan Jones was on the field, playing excellently
05:35 against Nick Bosa for the Browns,
05:39 and Jake Moody lost the game.
05:41 So it all happened on one field in one spot.
05:45 It's kind of amazing.
05:46 - Yeah, that one move of not signing Robbie Gold,
05:49 drafting Jake Moody, not drafting DeJuan Jones.
05:52 They just did that.
05:53 They win this game yesterday, I'm pretty sure,
05:56 regardless of how poorly Brock Purdy played yesterday.
05:59 They win this game if they do that.
06:00 And so that falls on Kyle.
06:02 Ultimately, it falls on Kyle.
06:04 And for whatever reason, Jim Schwartz has Kyle's number.
06:07 And he's gotta figure that out.
06:08 Or one of these NFC teams might hire Jim Schwartz
06:13 in the future.
06:13 And Cowboys hire Jim Schwartz, that's a problem.
06:17 - Yeah, we're gonna talk about actually why Jim Schwartz
06:21 has Kyle Shanahan's number in a minute.
06:23 It's a bonus topic.
06:24 CJ Smoove says, "Can you imagine if this was a monsoon?
06:26 "Too soon?
06:27 "Lol, it was sprinkling."
06:28 True.
06:31 Saw a lot of people saying, "Hey, it was a wet ball.
06:33 "You can't really fault Purdy."
06:35 - I wonder how many of those same people
06:37 were not accepting that last year against Chicago.
06:41 Curious about that.
06:41 - Why didn't he put on a Kenny Pickett glove?
06:43 What's wrong with that?
06:44 It would've helped.
06:44 I mean, if you can't, I don't understand that.
06:46 I feel like quarterbacks have too much pride sometimes.
06:50 Colin Kaepernick, remember that time he had that awful game
06:52 in the snow in Chicago and he really couldn't
06:54 throw the ball at all?
06:54 It's like, dude, you can't throw the ball today.
06:57 Put a glove on.
06:58 Try something else.
06:59 Or are you just gonna go out there and miss throws all day
07:01 because the glove looks stupid to you?
07:03 I don't understand that.
07:05 - Yeah, no sleeves. - Kenny Pickett loses.
07:06 - No sleeves, I remember Kaepernick,
07:07 it was like, machismo.
07:10 Yeah, nah, get that.
07:11 - A lot.
07:12 Rob Watson says, "Kylin Burford, 1A, 1B."
07:14 Burford, Burford.
07:17 69er says, "Go get Robbie Gold, we are in our window."
07:21 Sure, sure.
07:23 Robbie Gold sitting back being like,
07:24 "Yep, it's gonna cost you."
07:26 Richard Clark, "Football is harder in the rain
07:27 "without the weapons.
07:28 "Purdy's first test was some adversity and he failed."
07:31 Yeah, it's true.
07:34 The whole team's first test with adversity.
07:37 Zach Rivero, "This game had equal blame in my opinion.
07:39 "Purdy couldn't get rhythm.
07:40 "I dropped key passes and Moody did
07:43 "what we saw in the preseason.
07:44 "Need to shelf him this season,
07:45 "can't afford to develop him right now."
07:47 Yeah, they could say he's hurt, back spasms.
07:49 Put him on IR.
07:51 - Can you imagine if we go to the playoffs,
07:54 go to the Super Bowl,
07:56 and it comes down to Jake Moody kicking a field goal
07:59 and he misses the damn field goal.
08:01 Can you imagine?
08:02 I don't wanna imagine that.
08:04 - No.
08:05 Ezio Sanchez says, "Iuk is great,
08:06 "but he had critical drops."
08:08 - Yeah, man, I mean, he'd be partially to blame too.
08:11 He dropped like, I know some people say he only dropped one.
08:14 The one he dropped was big and he had a couple others
08:16 that he got his hands on that he couldn't bring in.
08:17 And it's like, all right, maybe that's not a drop,
08:19 but if you're elite, you bring those, you catch those.
08:23 They hit your hands, you catch it, man, you're elite.
08:26 - I was pretty hard on BA yesterday.
08:28 He definitely dropped the one that should have been a catch.
08:30 PFF gave him one drop.
08:32 The other two were very tough.
08:33 I watched it a second time
08:36 and those other two were really tough.
08:38 But yeah, I mean, if you wanna be that elite guy,
08:39 it's a contract year, man, go out and make a play.
08:42 - Keith Murphy, The Unbeaten says,
08:43 "If his kicker's last name was Vinatieri,
08:45 "he'd be a gamer today.
08:47 "It's okay to win ugly."
08:48 All right.
08:50 Detail Media says, "Kyle can't lose confidence
08:52 "like with his last quarterbacks."
08:54 I felt like he lost confidence yesterday.
08:55 Let's see if he gets it back.
