00:00 DTI inspected some stores to make sure that the Christmas lights they sell will bring happiness and not sadness.

00:25 But the Christmas lights that bring joy can also leave a sadness.

00:31 Just like what happened in December 2012,

00:34 where on Christmas Day, a house in Quezon City was burned.

00:39 The Christmas lights are defective.

00:41 Jumper and Sky Lantern are the only ones that were burned

00:45 and seven people were injured.

00:47 In 2017, two houses with ten floors in the city were burned.

00:53 Some Christmas decors were also burned in front of Capitolio in Lawag, Ilocos Norte

00:58 and Olongapo City Hall.

01:00 These incidents are being avoided.

01:03 That's why the Department of Trade and Industry inspected

01:07 along with the Senate Committee Chairman on Commerce,

01:10 Trade and Entrepreneurship Center Mark Villar in Pasig

01:13 to make sure that the appliances, home fixtures, and Christmas lights that are being sold are in line with quality standards.

01:21 Aside from the big home improvement stores,

01:24 they should also comply with quality standards in small stores.

01:29 We should make sure that our products are up to standard, especially now that Christmas is coming.

01:33 Christmas lights are a waste of money,

01:37 but despite the beauty, safety should also be ensured.

01:41 That's why for the Christmas lights that you buy,

01:44 or for any product, look for an ICC sticker like this.

01:50 If you see an ICC, it's a hologram.

01:53 If you put this on the DTI app, the Bureau of Philippine Standards,

01:58 the technical specifications will be displayed.
