00:05 Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot.
00:09 [ Music ]
00:14 But the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, did not.
00:19 The Grinch hated Christmas, the whole Christmas season.
00:23 Now, please don't ask why.
00:25 No one quite knows the reason.
00:29 It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right.
00:32 It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
00:36 But I think that the most likely reason of all may have been
00:41 that his heart was two sizes too small.
00:44 [ Music ]
00:49 'Tis the season of cheer, and Christmas is looming.
00:52 But the Grinch isn't happy.
00:54 In fact, he is fuming.
00:57 With a hatred so deep that he just can't conceal it.
01:02 To cancel this Christmas, old Grinchy will steal it.
01:06 To get into town, to make it the distance, you'll need to find Max.
01:13 You'll need his assistance.
01:15 Slither and slink with a smile most unpleasant.
01:21 To earn more rewards, collect every present.
01:25 More hot than a chimney, more sweet than a nuzzle.
01:28 It looks like you found Grinch a piece of a puzzle.
01:32 Collect all the pieces to unlock more skills.
01:36 With brand new abilities come brand new thrills.
01:40 After searching through packages, boxes, and sacks,
01:46 finally Grinch has found cute little Max.
01:53 Reunited with Max, Grinch is feeling more brave.
01:56 Together the duo must trek through the cave.
01:59 This door is locked shut.
02:03 The hinges all glitch.
02:05 Help Grinch and Max find the sneaky creek switch.
02:08 To get on with the plot, to move on and explore,
02:12 little dog Max can help open the door.
02:16 There's a switch to unlock on this door's other side.
02:21 But this trapdoor is so tiny, you'll need a small guide.
02:25 The trapdoor is too small for old Grinch's round shape.
02:30 But Max can wiggle right through without even a scrape.
02:33 A now open pathway was closed just before.
02:39 What a great Grinchy trick.
02:41 You've opened the door.
02:43 Now Grinch can continue.
02:45 You're well on your way.
02:47 The countdown is on to steal Christmas Day.
02:50 Be careful.
02:52 These cookies are lickety-slick, and Grinchy hates hugs.
02:56 Better hide from them quick.
02:58 When cookies come searching to give Grinch a hug,
03:04 hide in the wardrobe, snug as a bug.
03:07 Hide the Grinch.
03:08 Great job hiding the Grinch.
03:12 Come out, Grinch.
03:15 The cookies nearby love to hug girls and boys.
03:20 Slink by and stay silent.
03:22 Don't make any noise.
03:24 You found puzzle pieces you simply want more.
03:29 Well, look, there's a puzzle piece behind this door.
03:32 As simple as pudding, all sugary rich.
03:37 Max can pick up the pieces if Grinch presses the switch.
03:48 But whatever the reason, his heart or his shoes,
03:52 he stood there on Christmas Eve hating the Who's.
03:57 Staring down from his cave with a sour Grinchy frown
04:02 at the warm lighted windows below in their town.
04:06 For he knew every Who down in Whoville beneath was busy now
04:12 hanging a mistletoe wreath.
04:14 And they're hanging their stockings.
04:17 He snarled with a sneer.
04:18 Tomorrow is Christmas.
04:21 It's practically here.
04:23 Then he growled with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming.
04:27 I must find some way to stop Christmas from coming.
04:31 For tomorrow he knew.
04:32 All the Who girls and boys would wake bright and early.
04:40 They'd rush for their toys.
04:42 And then, oh, the noise.
04:44 Oh, the noise, noise, noise, noise.
04:46 That's one thing he hated.
04:48 The noise, noise, noise, noise.
04:50 Then the Who's young and old would sit down to a feast.
04:59 And they'd feast and they'd feast and they'd feast, feast, feast, feast.
05:05 They would feast on Who pudding and rare Who roast beast,
05:09 which was something the Grinch couldn't stand in the least.
05:13 Now out of his cave on his snowboard at last, with an avalanche coming,
05:24 Grinch needs to move fast.
05:25 And then they'd do something he liked least of all.
05:37 Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, would stand close together
05:44 with Christmas bells ringing.
05:45 They'd stand hand in hand and the Who's would start singing.
05:50 They'd sing and they'd sing and they'd sing, sing, sing, sing.
05:55 And the more the Grinch thought of this Who Christmas sing,
05:59 the more the Grinch thought, I must stop this whole thing.
06:03 Why, for 53 years I've put up with it now.
06:07 I must stop this Christmas from coming.
06:10 But how?
06:11 Then he got an idea, an awful idea.
06:17 The Grinch got a wonderful, awful idea.
06:21 Those lovey-dove Who's with their overblown hugs, Grinch would rather be covered in ten dozen bugs.
06:36 In true Grinchy nature, he hates Who-y hugs.
06:39 Better hide him from Who's and their love buggy tugs.
06:43 I know just what to do, the Grinch laughed in his throat.
06:54 And he made a quick Santy Claus hat and a coat.
06:57 And he chuckled and clucked, what a great Grinchy trick.
07:03 With this coat and this hat, I look just like Saint Nick.
07:06 All I need is a reindeer, the Grinch looked around.
07:09 But since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found.
07:14 Did that stop the old Grinch?
07:17 No, the Grinch simply said, if I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead.
07:22 So he called his dog Max.
07:25 And he took some red thread and he tied a big horn on the top of his head.
07:30 Then he loaded some bags and some old empty sacks on a ramshackle sleigh.
07:39 And he hitched up old Max.
07:41 Then the Grinch said, get up.
07:42 And the sleigh started down toward the homes where the Who's lay a snooze in their town.
07:49 All the windows were dark, quiet snow filled the air.
07:59 All the Who's were all dreaming, sweet dreams without care.
08:03 He came to the first little house on the square.
08:07 This is stop number one, the old Grinchy Claus hissed.
08:13 And he climbed to the roof, empty bags in his fist.
08:25 While the Grinch is getting closer to Whoville at last, there's more cheer to avoid and you've got to move fast.
08:31 Then he slid down the chimney, a rather tight pinch.
08:45 But if Santa could do it, then so could the Grinch.
08:49 He got stuck only once for a moment or two.
08:53 And he stuck his head out of the fireplace flue with the little Who's stockings all hung in a row.
09:00 These stockings, he grinned, are the first things to go.
09:06 Then he slithered and slunk with a smile most unpleasant around the whole room.
09:18 And he took every present, pop guns and bicycles, roller skates, drums, checkerboards, tricycles, popcorn and plums.
09:27 And he stuffed them in bags.
09:29 Then the Grinch, very nimbly, stuffed all the bags one by one up the chimney.
09:34 And he slunk to the icebox.
09:39 He took the Who's feast.
09:41 He took the Who pudding.
09:43 He took the roast beast.
09:45 He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a flash.
09:48 Why, that Grinch even took their last can of Who hash.
09:52 And he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee.
09:57 And now, grinned the Grinch, I will stuff up the tree.
10:12 These musical notes come from Who's who are singing.
10:16 When the Grinch hears their carols, his ears will start ringing.
10:20 With hatred for music, he's made it quite clear.
10:24 Hop over the notes and they'll disappear.
10:27 Beware Christmas stockings, the Grinch hates them so.
10:31 Avoid them by jumping to make them all go.
10:35 It's a trickity-splickity tangled up dance.
10:38 You can also cross through them whenever you get a chance.
10:42 In order to get past the Christmas tree, the Grinch needs to approach it to try.
10:47 As it starts falling, run away.
10:49 Then jump right over to get by.
10:52 It's enormous, a Christmas bulldozer.
11:00 Run, Mr. Grinch, or you'll get squashed right over.
11:03 And the Grinch grabbed the tree and he started to shove.
11:07 When he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.
11:10 He turned around fast and he saw a small Who.
11:14 Little Cindy Lou Who, who was not more than two.
11:18 The Grinch had been caught by this tiny Who daughter.
11:21 Who got out of bed for a cup of cold water.
11:24 And then he saw a little girl, who was a little girl.
11:27 She was a little girl, but she was a little girl.
11:31 Who got out of bed for a cup of cold water.
11:33 She stared at the Grinch and said, "Santa Claus, why?
11:37 Why are you taking our Christmas tree? Why?"
11:40 But you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick.
11:48 He thought up a lie.
11:51 And he thought it up quick.
11:53 "Why, my sweet little tot," the fake Santa Claus lied.
11:57 "There's a light on this tree that won't light on one side.
12:01 So I'm taking it home to my workshop, my dear.
12:04 I'll fix it up there.
12:06 Then I'll bring it back here."
12:07 And his fib fooled the child.
12:09 Then he patted her head.
12:12 And he got her a drink and he sent her to bed.
12:14 And when Cindy Lou Who went to bed with her cup.
12:17 He went to the chimney and stuffed the tree up.
12:21 Then the last thing he took was the log for their fire.
12:28 Then he went up the chimney himself, the old liar.
12:32 On their walls he left nothing but hooks and some wire.
12:36 And the one speck of food that he left in the house
12:39 was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse.
12:41 Then he did the same thing to the other Who's houses,
12:56 leaving crumbs much too small for the other Who's mouses.
12:59 It was quarter past dawn.
13:05 All the Who's still abed.
13:06 All the Who's still asnooze when he packed up his sled.
13:10 Packed it up with their presents, the ribbons, the wrappings,
13:13 the tags and the tinsel, the trimmings, the trappings.
13:17 Three thousand feet up, up the side of Mount Crumpit,
13:24 he rode with his load to the tip-top to dump it.
13:27 Poo-poo to the Who's.
13:30 He was grinchishly humming.
13:31 They're finding out now that no Christmas is coming.
13:36 They're just waking up.
13:37 I know just what they'll do.
13:39 Their mouths will hang open a minute or two.
13:42 Then the Who's down in Whoville will all cry boo-hoo.
13:47 "That's a noise," grinned the Grinch, "that I simply must hear."
14:01 So he paused, and the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
14:06 And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
14:10 It started in low.
14:12 Then it started to grow.
14:15 But the sound wasn't sad.
14:17 Why, this sound sounded merry.
14:20 It couldn't be so.
14:22 But it was merry, very.
14:24 He stared down at Whoville.
14:26 The Grinch popped his eyes.
14:29 Then he shook.
14:30 What he saw was a shocking surprise.
14:32 Every Who down in Whoville that day was a surprise.
14:44 Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, was singing without any presence at all.
14:51 He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming.
14:53 It came.
14:54 Somehow or other, it came just the same.
14:57 And the Grinch with his Grinch feet ice cold in the snow stood puzzling and puzzling.
15:04 How could it be so?
15:06 It came without ribbons.
15:08 It came without tags.
15:09 It came without packages, boxes, or bags.
15:12 And he puzzled three hours till his puzzler was sore.
15:16 Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.
15:19 Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a storm.
15:25 Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.
15:30 And what happened then?
15:33 Well, in Whoville, they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day.
15:41 And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight, he whizzed with his load through
15:46 the bright morning light, and he brought back the toys and the food for the feast.
15:51 And he...
15:51 With this change of his heart, Grinch knows just what to do.
15:59 He will give back the presents to every sweet Who.
16:03 He himself, the Grinch, carved the roast beast.
