00:02 Hi, I'm Elisa Priddle with Motor Trend
00:08 and this is the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV.
00:13 Yes, this is the little sister
00:14 to the Hummer EV pickup truck.
00:17 The Hummer name is back.
00:19 Now they are pure electric vehicles.
00:22 Still lots of power, tons of torque,
00:25 but no combustion engines anymore.
00:27 (upbeat music)
00:30 The Hummer is going to herald a whole new wave
00:37 of electric vehicles for GM.
00:40 Pretty soon, you're gonna be able to go to a showroom
00:42 and find electric vehicles in every shape and size,
00:46 but it all starts with the Hummer.
00:49 First, we have the pickup,
00:51 and then we will see this SUV go into production
00:53 and on sale early in 2023 as a 24 model.
00:58 The first batch of Hummers to come off the line
01:00 will be a special edition,
01:03 appropriately called Edition 1.
01:05 The Edition 1 is a top trim,
01:07 so it comes fully loaded, fully priced.
01:10 It comes with three electric motors.
01:13 They will give it an output of 830 horsepower
01:17 and more than a thousand foot pounds of torque.
01:20 The other thing is range.
01:23 This SUV should have a range on a single charge
01:26 of about 300 miles.
01:29 That's a little bit less than the pickup,
01:30 which is 350 estimated.
01:32 Part of that reason, shorter vehicle,
01:35 little less room for battery pack.
01:38 This version of the Edition 1
01:43 is loosely referred to as the on-road version,
01:45 and it has 22 inch wheels.
01:47 If you get the Extreme Off-Road package,
01:50 it puts 18s on there.
01:52 And when it comes to the rubber,
01:53 you can get 35s or you can ask your dealer
01:56 to put 37s on this puppy.
01:58 Engineers say that this is well-equipped to go off-road.
02:02 Here, because it's the on-road version,
02:03 we have a step assist,
02:05 but you can change that for rock rails for off-road.
02:08 We have skid plates.
02:09 And of course, because we have motors front and back,
02:11 we've got four-wheel drive.
02:13 There's about 10 inches of ground clearance.
02:15 One of the modes called Extract
02:17 will boost it up another six inches,
02:19 so you can get over any kind of boulder you want.
02:22 And if you get stuck in a tight spot,
02:24 because of the four-wheel steering,
02:26 you can kind of do a little crab walk to get out of trouble.
02:29 GM has referred to this whole project as a moonshot
02:36 because they really condensed the development time
02:39 to get this thing on the market.
02:42 As a result, there are moon themes.
02:44 Here we've got a Lunar Skate
02:46 etched into the rubber mat in the back.
02:49 The opening is 48 inches wide,
02:52 so your piece of plywood from the hardware store
02:55 is going to fit.
02:56 Inside the Hummer SUV,
03:00 you'll notice it's the same five-passenger layout
03:03 as the pickup truck.
03:04 The cabs are very, very similar,
03:07 which means faux leather seats.
03:09 GM did not want to use animal hides.
03:12 And my favorite part, the Infinity Roof.
03:16 It comes in four panels that are easily removed,
03:19 as well as the I-bar,
03:21 and you can store the panels in the front trunk
03:24 so that you can take them with you.
03:25 You can drop the glass in the back,
03:27 and you're essentially in a convertible.
03:30 Every modern vehicle has to have a lot of screens,
03:34 and the Hummer is no different.
03:35 We've got over 12 inches here in front of the driver,
03:38 and over 13 inches here in our center touchscreen,
03:41 divided into three different displays.
03:45 One of the coolest features has got to be the etching
03:48 on the speaker grill.
03:50 It is the coordinates for the Sea of Tranquility,
03:53 and look closely, try and find the footprint
03:56 of Neil Armstrong from that famous first step on the moon.
03:59 The Edition 1 has a starting price of $105,595.
04:06 And if you want to add the Extreme Off-Road package,
04:08 that's another $5,000.
04:10 It goes on sale early in 2023.
04:14 It'll be followed in the spring of that year by the 3X,
04:18 where the price goes down a little bit.
04:20 Subsequently, once we get further on,
04:22 we'll get into the 2X, and then the Base 2,
04:25 which starts around $80,000.
04:27 But that only has two motors.
04:29 The range goes down to 250 miles,
04:32 and the horsepower goes down to 625 horsepower.
04:36 GM will have both the pickup and the SUV out there.
04:40 The pickup went first because that's the craze.
04:43 Everyone's talking about electric pickups,
04:45 but in the long run, it's probably the SUV
04:48 that's gonna win the sales race.
04:49 I'm Elisa Priddle, Detroit Editor for Motor Trend.
