Powell on his Pick-6 Runback

Mishael Powell talks about his 89-yard pick-6 against ASU.

00:04 >> I didn't really know.

00:05 I just, I remember I just started running and then I was just like,

00:08 Coach Merag says if you get caught by the quarterback, like, it's an issue.

00:11 So I almost like I was going and then I seen him and I was like, I can't get caught.

00:15 I think he clipped me a little bit but I was like, come on, we can't fall like this.

00:19 I'm just grateful God kept my leg strong enough for that play.

00:23 >> It was a similar question last week, but were you surprised they went for it there?

00:27 >> No, that's a team that, I mean, I guess you guys don't get to see the tape on them.

00:32 But we watching them, once they get past probably about the 50 yard line,

00:35 they have a really good running back at number four.

00:37 And that's the same offensive coordinator from Oregon last year,

00:40 their head coach now and they went for fourth down all the time.

00:43 We played them last year, we played Oregon last year.

00:45 So we were expecting it, they're a really formationally sound team.

00:49 They threw a lot of stuff at us that I think we were really surprised with.

00:53 We respect them a lot for that.

00:55 >> When was the last time you scored a touchdown?

00:57 If you can recall.

00:57 >> I used to play for the CD Panthers.

01:00 I remember I was probably like ten years old.

01:05 >> [LAUGH] >> Yeah, yeah.

01:07 I was like, yeah, the Central District Panthers, so I was to them.

01:10 But yeah, no, they had me play tight end.

01:12 I remember I caught a corner out and I stiff armed two guys and I scored.

01:14 >> [LAUGH] >> So I was probably right at

01:15 Judkins Park, so that's probably the last time I scored a touchdown.

01:18 >> After the game, you ran down and leapt into the stands.

01:21 Was that spontaneous or?

01:23 >> I actually stole that from Alex Cook, so shout out to AC.

01:26 Cuz I remember we beat Cal 2021 year.

01:29 >> Yeah.

01:30 >> By that fumble stop in overtime.

01:32 I remember I saw him jump off into the crowd.

01:34 He had a really cool picture.

01:35 And I was like, hey, if I get an opportunity like that,

01:38 I'm for sure gonna jump into the crowd, for sure.
