00:00 Welcome back to the Doc's Diagnosis presented by Centris Federal Credit Union.
00:04 And check out the duds, man.
00:05 Dude, nice shirt.
00:06 We look good in purple.
00:08 We kind of make everything look good, but the purple?
00:12 Oh, man.
00:13 I know.
00:14 It looks good.
00:15 Purple just pops off the screen.
00:16 You just said pops.
00:17 I did.
00:18 Just pops off the screen.
00:19 Dr. Rob, one of the first things that really came apparent after the game when Nebraska beat Northwestern
00:25 is when Matt Ruhle talked about how Tom Osborne said, "You gotta run the G-Belly option pass."
00:32 First of all, what's "belly" mean?
00:34 I have no clue.
00:35 I've never known what it means.
00:37 To me--
00:38 I just--here's my blocking assignment.
00:39 I'm doing that.
00:41 There you go.
00:42 I look at it two things here.
00:43 It is that Nebraska was really running the football because the passing game wasn't working that well.
00:47 It was not working well at all.
00:49 And it's not like the running game.
00:51 It's not like they were destroying Northwestern with the run.
00:54 But they had, what, 163 yards on the ground, and they stuck with it.
00:59 So Northwestern's thinking run.
01:02 But I think thinking run, that's a good old-fashioned play-action pass.
01:07 And that's basically what it is.
01:08 It's a play-action pass.
01:10 And this one, when we go through it, it was really executed well,
01:15 and it did exactly what was supposed to happen.
01:19 So the kind of things that we're going to look at here right off the bat is that you're going to see the right offensive guard.
01:26 Nuoli's going to pull.
01:29 You get some really good down-blocking from these guys.
01:32 They do a good--the offensive line did a good job selling the run on this play.
01:36 And what I want people to really look at is when you look at the safeties, when you look at the linebackers,
01:45 watch their eyes and where they're looking because they're all looking at this offensive guard.
01:52 They're looking at the line pulling.
01:54 Got Lindenmeier right here at tight end who crashes down and actually frees up.
02:00 And he's wide open on the play as well, too.
02:02 But you're going to see three guys wide open.
02:05 Alex Bullock's going to be wide open.
02:07 Malachi Coleman, obviously wide open.
02:10 And you're going to see this guy bite hard and fast on the run.
02:13 And he's got some assignment there to take care of it because he knows he's got safety help back here.
02:19 But he's going to come crashing up, reading that run, as is the rest of these guys.
02:24 So what I want people to really pay attention to on this play when we stop at next is look where everybody's looking right now.
02:31 So you've got--right there, as we get my stylist working here.
02:36 He came up.
02:37 He just--by the way, this is--here's a point where a guy right here.
02:42 He just realized, "Oops, there's a guy wide open who runs about a 4-1-40 and has a safety on him that's behind me now."
02:53 Looking in the offensive backfield.
02:56 Looking in the offensive backfield.
02:58 Looking in the offensive backfield.
03:00 Turning back, but look where he's looking.
03:04 Coming up, run support.
03:07 All of these guys, that play-action pass, this is what--if you use the run to set up the pass, this is what happens, and it's a good thing.
03:19 You've got the running back here.
03:21 Nuelli's pulled out.
03:22 He's right here.
03:23 Again, that helps keep these guys sucked up.
03:26 They're still thinking this might be a handoff.
03:31 This might still be a run play.
03:34 And you already have the defense burned here.
03:38 Lindenmeyer's going to come open.
03:40 Bullocks is going to come wide open, especially as he cuts across.
03:44 Malachi Coleman, we all know how the play ends with him.
03:48 And so it's just--it's a great job of perfect execution of play-action pass.
03:55 And again, you've got a safety on a guy that should have a very good, very fast corner on him instead.
04:02 And you saw that kind of separation.
04:04 And those guys knew it.
04:05 You can look at those guys, the Northwestern players, on that play.
04:10 The moment Coleman went past the corner, those guys all knew, "We're done on this play. We got beat."
04:17 And the truth is, nobody in the country is going to catch Malachi Coleman.
04:19 He's that fast.
04:20 No, you've got some legitimate speed on this team.
04:23 When you look at the Jaylin Lloyds, the Malachi Colemans, we're starting to see these young guys kind of come in.
04:29 And like I said, it was one play, it was one catch by Coleman.
04:33 But this shows what his capabilities are.
04:36 And the other thing is that I kind of want to point out is that some of the things we've seen this year,
04:42 out of some of these younger players like Thomas Fedoni, definitely from Coleman,
04:47 these guys are getting out there and mixing it up, blocking as well.
04:51 And that's something that I don't think they're getting credit for.
04:54 You've got a group of wide receivers that are blocking like Nebraska wide receivers and tight ends used to block.
05:01 I would assume to some degree you've got maybe a little bit of Ron Brown influence in that regard,
05:07 because he taught his guys to be just absolutely devastating blockers on the outside.
05:13 And we're seeing a lot of these younger wide receivers and tight ends really getting after it when it comes to the blocking.
05:20 That's the kind of thing that if you're a coach and you're looking at your wide outs and tight ends,
05:26 that's the kind of thing that's going to get these younger guys more and more playing time.
05:30 Baby steps, but if you improve 1% a day, you start to see those improvements really start to add up.
05:36 For Dr. Rob Zanusk, I'm Travis Justice.
