  • last year
A report outlining the suburbs which will suffer the worst noise effects from the new Western Sydney Airport will be released by the Federal Government today.
Transcript
00:00 Well, Corrina, much of the focus of this new draft environmental impact statement for the
00:06 Western Sydney Airport covers the noise impact.
00:09 So they've released a breakdown of the flight paths for each runway and which suburbs those
00:14 planes will be flying over.
00:16 And residents in the Ludnum, Twin Creeks, Kemps Creek and Greendale areas are likely
00:21 to be the hardest hit by noise when this airport opens in late 2026.
00:27 And an online tool is available for residents to input their addresses and see what the
00:32 likely noise impact will be.
00:34 And this document has also outlined a proposed policy from the federal government that covers
00:40 home soundproofing treatments for buildings that are most significantly impacted by noise.
00:46 So this would mean that residents may be eligible for support for treatments such as increasing
00:52 the thickness of windows, improving roof and ceiling insulation and also sealing gaps in
00:58 doors and windows.
01:00 And so this is modelled off similar programs that was used for properties around the Sydney
01:05 Kingsford Smith Airport and Adelaide Airport.
01:08 But the government says that the eligibility criteria for the Western Sydney Airport area
01:14 will be lower, partly due to the fact that this airport will be running for 24 hours
01:19 a day.
01:20 And this document also has flagged some proposed changes to the flight paths for Sydney Kingsford
01:25 Smith Airport and they say that's in order to integrate these new flight paths into the
01:30 system.
01:31 But a consultation period will now begin and run until the end of January next year and
01:37 residents are being invited to give their feedback on these plans.
