Official Lancaster edition of Monopoly hits the shops

The brand new Monopoly: Lancaster Edition game was launched in style at the Ashton Memorial.

00:00 you know, a Georgian city getting honoured and particularly I've got to say being now

00:05 that we're the County Palatine and with our long history, I think it's overdue.

00:10 We opened nominations to the public, everyone suggested what they wanted to see and that's

00:14 how we have the board that we have here today. So I'm obviously not from Lancaster so it

00:18 really helped hearing what the people want to see and it was really tricky because there's

00:21 just not enough spaces to feature all the beautiful things here but I think we've really

00:25 captured a lot of what makes Lancaster so amazing.

00:28 It's brilliant and I think anybody who comes from the north of the river will recognise

00:32 the penalty of going across Skirton Bridge, a bridge painted by Turner but sometimes when

00:37 it's full of vehicles you don't remember the nice bits about it.

00:41 The landmarks, you've got the Ashton Memorial, the castle, I didn't realise how many landmarks

00:46 were in Lancaster, the buildings look amazing so it's such a nice looking board and yeah

00:49 the charities are brilliant as well.

00:51 And I'm really pleased because of the charities that were involved, I mean one of them, the

00:56 Hospice is one of my charities along with the Lifeboat that I'm hoping to support this

01:00 year and that's a wonderful thing because it's what they do in the community and that's

01:06 part of the thing with this, you know there is the community chest and it's the give back

01:11 that these charities do.

01:12 It just takes so long when you're so excited to launch something so yeah I'm really excited

01:17 to be here, really happy with how the board's turned out.

01:19 What we're hoping to do is to be able to auction it off for our charities, the mayoral charities

01:24 would be the Hospice and to include Morecambe would be the Lifeboats as well and I think

01:29 that would be excellent and just thank you to them for all the work and all the help

01:33 that they've given us and it's so pleasing to see Lancaster now on the map and on the

01:38 Monopoly.

01:39 And yeah it's on the shop shelves this morning, it's very exciting, just in time for Christmas

01:42 for everyone to argue with their families and yeah.
