00:00 All right, fun one on Saturday.
00:02 Got an opportunity to get with our guys today
00:04 and work some of the cleanup that we saw in the game.
00:07 But obviously really excited about this next one.
00:09 Guys came ready to work today
00:10 and this is gonna be a fun opponent.
00:12 It's a really good team, extremely well coached.
00:14 They've done a phenomenal job at utilizing their personnel
00:18 and have some really talented players on their team.
00:20 So it's gonna be fun for us to get out there and play them.
00:23 - Right in front, right, Zach.
00:25 - Talked a lot about wanting to learn specific things
00:27 about your team each week.
00:28 What do you think you learned about your team
00:29 last week against Washington State?
00:31 - I don't know if there's anything,
00:34 if there's necessarily one thing in particular,
00:36 other than those guys really love each other.
00:38 I think that showed up in multiple opportunities
00:41 when these guys had success,
00:43 they were celebrating with each other.
00:44 But that's something I've really already known.
00:47 - All the way in the back, Matt.
00:49 - Jacob's return, just how did he grade out
00:51 and just how does he help you the rest of the season?
00:53 - Yeah, Justin's really, he's a good player.
00:55 He's really physical.
00:57 I think he's a hard person to block.
00:59 He's really talented in the box.
01:01 Just having him back with our team
01:03 for a guy that's worked so hard
01:04 to put himself in position to be back,
01:05 it was great to have him out there.
01:07 Certainly makes us better when we're able to utilize him.
01:10 - Second row on the left here, Eric.
01:12 You mentioned having admiration
01:14 for what Kyle's had to go through
01:15 in terms of the personnel stuff and fixing all that.
01:17 How impressive can you put into perspective,
01:18 speak a little bit more into what he's had to go through
01:20 this year with that regard?
01:21 - Yeah, the amount of injuries that they've dealt with
01:23 and for him to be able to utilize
01:25 defensive personnel on offense
01:27 and shuffle positions and utilize
01:30 offensive linemen at tight end,
01:32 I think it's just really impressive.
01:33 Everyone's always known that he's a great coach,
01:35 but the way that he's been able
01:37 and his staff's been able to utilize the people they have.
01:40 I know at the beginning of the year,
01:41 he spoke about the depth of his team
01:42 was starting to really show up.
01:44 He has good depth, but they're utilizing people
01:46 in different ways than they anticipated
01:48 when the year started.
01:49 And he's done a great job coaching that group.
01:52 - Front left, James.
01:54 How did you feel about the clock management
01:56 at the end of each half this past week?
01:58 - I was comfortable with it.
02:00 You would love to get a first down there
02:02 in that last series so we can keep the clock running,
02:05 but we took the very end of the game,
02:08 we were able to take it down to one or two seconds
02:09 before the snap on each one of those.
02:11 You're trying to make sure you utilize
02:12 as much of the time as possible there.
02:15 Yeah, I was comfortable with the way we managed the clock.
02:17 - Back right, Jareb.
02:18 - This season, you've had 16 different guys make a sack,
02:22 a lot of those guys freshmen.
02:23 So how close do you feel like your depth is
02:26 at pass rusher to ultimately where you want it to be
02:29 for this program?
02:30 - Well, we always want to get better, right?
02:32 I think we have a lot of good players that can play,
02:34 and I think that's starting to show up,
02:35 probably showed up more last week
02:36 than it has so far this season.
02:38 But when you have a lot of talented players
02:40 that can play at a high level, you want to utilize them.
02:42 But if you tell me I can have more,
02:44 then I'm going to go try to get more.
02:46 - Front right, Zach.
02:47 - You mentioned their depth,
02:49 but particularly with Sion Vahki,
02:51 how difficult is it to scout some of the guys
02:54 that they're playing now because they're in new positions?
02:56 I don't know that there's a ton of tape
02:57 on what Sion's doing right now.
02:59 You could go back to his high school days,
03:00 maybe to see some of it, but how difficult of that,
03:03 how difficult is that for you to scout them?
03:05 - Not hard, he's really good.
03:07 You just watch what he's done, what he's been in.
03:09 He's a really good player.
03:10 And again, they've used him in a lot of different ways.
03:13 So I expect to see him on both sides of the ball,
03:16 but they're talented
03:17 and they're able to use those guys well.
03:20 - All the way in the back, Matt.
03:21 - Barnes, that quarterback,
03:22 just he led that drive late to get him down there.
03:25 Just what do you make of him at quarterback
03:27 and just this offense in general?
03:29 - Yeah, I mean, I think he's getting more
03:30 and more comfortable each week.
03:31 You know, what you appreciate is a football guy
03:34 watching him play, the guy plays tough.
03:35 I mean, he's fighting for hard yards there
03:37 at the end of the game to put their team in position to win.
03:39 He took some big hits and got up and kept playing
03:41 and he's impressive, you know, and like I said,
03:44 he's dangerous as a runner.
03:46 He's done a good job passing the ball.
03:48 He's gotten more efficient each week
03:50 and you know, they do a great job putting them in position
03:53 and using his talents.
03:55 - On the left here, College Game Day,
03:57 once again, going to the location of a game
03:59 that you guys are playing at.
04:01 What are you expecting from the environment
04:02 and kind of what have you heard about Salt Lake?
04:05 - Yeah, I think it'll be a great environment.
04:06 You know, I know that they get loud there.
04:09 I know that they love their team.
04:10 So it should be a lot of fun for us.
04:12 I think that speaks, you know,
04:13 obviously to the job that Utah has done this year
04:15 and the job that we've done this year
04:16 to put ourselves in that position to have a game day there.
04:20 - From the left, James.
04:22 - Gary's been less involved the past couple of weeks
04:24 in the passing game.
04:25 Just anything behind that
04:26 or is that just kind of happenstance or?
04:29 - Yeah, he's running routes and sometimes, you know,
04:31 that's, he's covered, right?
04:34 We utilize him the second play of the game in reverse.
04:36 I know we'd love to get him the ball,
04:38 but sometimes when guys are covering you,
04:40 you don't always get the ball.
04:42 - Middle on the right, Chris.
04:44 - Yeah, with that sack total this year
04:45 and just your pass rush in general,
04:47 I mean, do you attribute that mostly
04:48 to the talent level that's on the team
04:50 or have you guys done something differently this year
04:52 to get those guys going?
04:53 - I think we always try to challenge ourselves
04:55 from utilizing different schemes
04:57 that'll, you know, give us a chance
04:58 to get guys on the ground.
05:00 But that being said,
05:00 I think personnel has certainly helped us there.
