00:07 just like the Filipinos who are now stuck in the chaos of Israel and Hamas.
00:12 Mela Lesmora is live in the center of the news.
00:16 Audrey Capuatiniac of the Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
00:24 said that the government's assistance to our countrymen who are returning home is enough amidst the various challenges in the world,
00:32 such as the ongoing war in Israel.
00:35 At 9 o'clock in the morning, the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs heard the first hearing of Chairperson Ron Salo
00:47 and two officials from the DMW, OADSWD, DOJ and other government agencies.
00:54 In that hearing, the congressmen emphasized the government's programs for returning OFWs.
01:02 According to Migrant Workers Department Acting Secretary Hans Leo Kakdak,
01:06 generally, they give P30,000 per person as financial assistance to every returning OFW in the country.
01:15 But if they are stuck in the war, they are given P50,000.
01:20 Aside from that, they also provide various types of assistance to start a new life in the country for returning OFWs.
01:29 In the presentation of the OAS, they also added that they have transportation, medical assistance, accommodation,
01:36 and other assistance to the returning OFWs.
01:39 They also provided assistance for specialized repatriation, including incident return or emergency mass return.
01:47 For the reintegration program, OAS also provides various livelihood assistance to ensure a better future for OFWs.
01:56 DMW and OAS are also working together under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.
02:03 They will not neglect our OFWs and their families, especially during times of need.
02:11 This is a testament to the genuine desire of the House of Representatives to effectively fulfill its mandate
02:17 and responsibility to the Filipino people in ensuring that the protection, the promotions of the rights and welfare of our overseas Filipino workers is ensured.
02:32 This directive is made more relevant in light of the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
02:39 We initially provided 20,000 financial assistance upon return, but Secretary Tuts increased it to 30,000.
03:02 We are currently providing 50,000 to the Sudanese and Israeli workers who are facing trauma and sudden loss of jobs.
03:23 Audrey, earlier, the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs discussed the proposed laws to further strengthen the benefits
03:33 to the families of OFWs who are staying in the Philippines.
03:37 Aside from that, the retirement pension system was also discussed to separate the OFWs so that their benefits are guaranteed even if they return to the country.
03:47 In the next few days, the committee will continue to discuss this. Audrey?
03:53 Okay, Mela. As for the camera, what support will the congressmen provide to ensure that the government agencies' funds are sufficient to meet the needs of the OFWs?
04:09 Audrey, earlier in the hearing, it was also announced that the budget deliberations for the proposed 2024 national budget were given in full by the DMW and OAH's repatriation and reintegration programs.
04:28 The congressmen said that if the camera needs any help, they are ready to provide it to the concerned government agencies because it is very important for them to provide jobs for the OFWs. Audrey?
