Transcript
00:00 In the third opportunity, the USS Ronald Reagan will visit the country again.
00:07 Something that China did not like.
00:09 The government clearly stated that the country is not looking for trouble.
00:13 Beya Bernardo has more.
00:15 Flight operations are underway in the eastern part of Luzon Strait
00:26 and a forward deploy aircraft carrier of the United States is being used.
00:29 The USS Ronald Reagan.
00:31 It has more than 1,000 aircraft carriers.
00:35 Some of them are high-tech aircraft like the F/A-18 jets,
00:38 C2 Greyhound and helicopters.
00:40 USS Ronald Reagan is operating in the Indo-Pacific region
00:45 and it has more than 5,000 sailors and 150 pilots.
00:50 Among them is Marcos Castaneda who has been serving in the US Navy for 12 years.
00:56 He grew up in Pasig City and migrated to the United States just 12 years ago.
01:01 We want to represent our culture.
01:03 We want to show that we are Filipinos and we persevere in any culture.
01:07 A lot of opportunities in the United States
01:09 but we want to represent the Filipinos that we can perform in any platform.
01:13 It was not difficult for Richon to adjust in life and be equal in the US Navy
01:17 because of the large community of Filipinos in the organization.
01:20 I think it's easier because a lot of Filipinos are in the Navy.
01:24 So of all the branches I would have selected, it would have been the Navy
01:27 because everybody's here.
01:28 The Filipinos are strong in the Navy.
01:31 USS Ronald Reagan visited the country the next day.
01:35 This will be the third time that this ship will visit the Philippines.
01:39 The visit of the Reagan is a symbol of the partnership
01:43 and the alliance that we have with the Philippines.
01:46 China did not like the presence of aircraft carrier vessels
01:49 in the nearby sea in the Philippines.
01:51 In a published article in Chinese media, they said that in the operation
01:55 of USS Ronald Reagan in the region,
01:57 the United States is consenting to the Philippines' activity in the West Philippine Sea.
02:02 But the US is reluctant.
02:04 I would just say that these visits are part of our alliance.
02:07 They happen all the time at regular intervals.
02:10 Other governments can read into it what they will
02:13 but we have an ironclad alliance with the Philippines
02:15 and we're very glad that we can have these kinds of visits.
02:17 The Philippines is not intending to have a conflict with China
02:22 but we are just protecting our territory.
02:25 All of this, the swarming, their illegal activities, the barbaricade,
02:33 this is a plan of China.
02:37 The entire South China Sea is under their control.
02:40 We should learn from this.
02:41 It's clear that we will not fight China.
02:45 We are just protecting our territory under international law.
02:52 Meanwhile, the leaders of the United States and Australia
02:56 agreed to support the 2016 arbiter ruling that the Philippines is promoting
03:00 the next shipments of ships from the Philippines and China
03:03 to their island for a while.
03:05 U.S. President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
03:10 in Washington, D.C.
03:11 The two countries are working together to prevent any dangerous actions
03:16 in the South China Sea from the Philippines' routine maritime operations
03:19 in the Aeongin Shoal.
03:20 Chudoro said that because of what happened,
03:23 it's possible that more countries will be interested in joining the joint patrol
03:27 with the Philippines.
03:28 The United States and Australia expressed their interest in this activity first.
03:32 Bea Bernardo for Bayan.
