Buccaneers vs. Bills: Can Tampa Bay Overcome Offensive Struggles?

00:00 Tonight, the Buccaneers, they take on the Buffalo Bills.
00:03 The game is up north in New York,
00:06 and certainly, you know, we'll focus on the Bills here.
00:08 And I watched that game last week
00:10 against the Atlanta Falcons.
00:11 The Bucks had a million opportunities
00:14 to win the game, stay in the game.
00:15 Atlanta sort of handed it over to them a bunch of times.
00:19 And let's be honest, the Bucks are playing better this year
00:22 than people anticipated.
00:24 But I guess the question is,
00:25 do they have a puncher's chance tonight in Buffalo?
00:29 Obviously, with a team, Ronnie, in the Bills
00:31 that are looking to get right
00:33 after they didn't look good last week against New England.
00:36 - The only reason they have a puncher's chance, Craig,
00:39 is the Bills are a bit indecisive
00:42 on how they're gonna run their offense.
00:44 Are they gonna let Josh Allen be Josh Allen,
00:46 or are they gonna keep the reins on him
00:48 and, you know, keep him in that little box there
00:51 where he's trying to win all the time from the pocket?
00:52 I think you gotta let Josh be Josh,
00:54 but he's not my quarterback,
00:56 so they want him to last for a long time.
00:59 I understand that you can't consistently take hits
01:02 in the National Football League and have a long career,
01:05 but the Bucks just cannot run the football at all, Craig.
01:10 The Bucks have no identity on offense.
01:13 They're trying a balanced attack
01:15 with a new offensive coordinator,
01:16 and Dave Canales, who came over,
01:18 he's been with Seattle for like 14 years,
01:21 never the offensive coordinator there,
01:23 but the quarterback coach
01:24 and part of the offensive game plan
01:26 in the whole nine yards,
01:27 but never elevated to the offensive coordinator position.
01:31 So he takes the position here vacated by Byron Lefflage,
01:35 and the hope is, I mean,
01:36 when you have a defensive head coach,
01:38 you know they wanna have a balanced offensive attack.
01:40 They wanna run the ball and throw the ball
01:42 versus what Bruce Arians had when he was here.
01:45 It was, you know, no risk it, no biscuit, man.
01:48 Let's get that ball in the air,
01:49 take those deep shots and that sort of thing.
01:51 But the run game has been absolutely pathetic,
01:55 and I think it's on,
01:56 there are multiple factors here that play into that.
02:00 The offensive line, obviously.
02:02 The interior of the offensive line
02:04 has not blocked well against the run the entire season,
02:09 and it's a reshuffled offensive line.
02:11 There's a new center, no more Pro Bowl center.
02:13 You know, Jensen is out with an injury
02:16 on injured reserve, Ryan Jensen.
02:18 He was the leader of that offensive line.
02:20 They still have good tackles,
02:22 but the interior, the guards and the center
02:24 are not getting that push that they need
02:26 to get the run game going.
02:28 Plus it's a new running scheme.
02:30 It's more of a zone running scheme.
02:32 So the running backs around this team
02:34 are having to get used to that.
02:36 So it's just crazy what's going on right now
02:39 with their ineffectiveness in the run game,
02:42 and that puts more pressure on Baker Mayfield.
