00:00 >> All right, Cedric is ready to roll, so just raise your hand with questions and
00:03 we'll bring the microphone around.
00:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:09 >> Yeah, Cedric, seems like a unit that plays a lot of guys up front for Florida.
00:13 How do you go about preparing for such a variety of opponent?
00:15 >> So when they play a lot of guys, I think you have to watch more film.
00:19 You gotta watch everything.
00:21 And I know sometimes when teams are up late in games and
00:27 they start to put other guys in, I know sometimes people have the tendency to
00:31 maybe turn the game off, stuff like that.
00:32 But I think with a team like this that plays so
00:34 many guys, it's very important to watch those reps.
00:37 Just because you never know who can get in the game.
00:39 You never know who can end up out there, what may happen.
00:42 So I think it's really important to watch extra film as we can just try to have
00:47 a base understanding for each guy, what they like to do, their favorite moves.
00:51 What their goal is being put in the game.
00:54 I think that they do a tremendous job of playing certain guys in certain situation.
00:58 So understanding that this guy is in, what is he in there to do?
01:01 So I think that's the biggest thing is just trying to, I guess, play the game
01:05 within the game and kind of get a bit of an understanding of what each guy's role
01:09 is on their defense without actually being told that.
01:12 >> Cedric, you guys have had to weather some changes on the line this year,
01:19 some turnover, but you've only allowed six sacks.
01:22 What's been the key to weathering the storm?
01:26 >> That's tough, cuz personally, I don't really think that's good.
01:32 But I mean, I guess we've done an okay job of minimizing sacks.
01:38 And I think it's come from a couple things.
01:42 I think we do a decent job of protecting.
01:45 I definitely think that we have some technique things that we could be better
01:48 at, for sure.
01:50 But also too, I think Carson does a tremendous job of trying to get rid of
01:53 the ball.
01:54 So I think it's a bit of everything.
01:56 I think we do a pretty good job of protecting, but
01:58 also I think Carson does a good job of not holding the ball for ten seconds.
02:02 >> Cedric, how beneficial do you feel like the bye week was to the offensive line?
02:08 And was there any particular area you feel like you guys really focused on,
02:12 improved on during that bye week?
02:13 >> It's a great question.
02:16 I think that as a unit, our main goal is just try and
02:19 take as much coaching from Coach Charles as possible.
02:22 I think he did a great job of getting us back to the basics,
02:25 going back to basic techniques and things that you kind of lose throughout the season
02:29 as you go on because you're more so focused on opponents and schemes and
02:32 things like that.
02:33 You're now focusing on your second step,
02:35 maybe not traveling as far as it needs to, to make that A block.
02:38 Just little things like that.
02:39 I think that we've done a tremendous job of just focusing on it in the bye week.
02:44 So I'm really happy about what we were able to accomplish in the bye week.
02:47 I think we had a really good week of practice.
02:48 >> You're obviously a Nolans guy.
02:53 And what did you know about this Georgia, Florida robbery and
02:58 Jacksonville thing before you came to Georgia and now as a veteran?
03:04 How do you, what's your sentiments about it?
03:06 >> So I didn't know much when I first got here.
03:10 I think being from New Orleans, most of the time, what I saw was LSU,
03:13 obviously, and I can actually remember one of my first LSU
03:18 memories was against Georgia was Ty Gurley.
03:20 That was one of my first memories of Georgia.
03:22 But I think when you get here, I think you're told about Georgia, Florida.
03:26 You're told about the game, what it means, the history,
03:28 the guys that have played in it.
03:29 But I think it's upon each individual to kind of do their own research.
03:33 So going back, we have the Internet now, so
03:35 pretty much everything is accessible to you.
03:36 So going to YouTube, watching those old games, knowing about some of the stats and
03:41 stuff that Jarvis Jones maybe have had in his games when he played here.
03:44 It's that level of understanding, but also understanding too,
03:47 when you play in these games, having played in it, excuse me.
03:52 You know that in order to have a successful season,
03:54 you have to go through those guys.
03:56 Everything that you wanna accomplish goes through that team.
03:59 So I think that's the biggest thing, is just kind of taking what you're told and
04:04 then developing your own understanding for it.
04:08 >> Yes, so Kirby was saying that it's never been harder to get a yard when you
04:12 need to get a yard, third and one, fourth and one.
04:14 Just from a center's perspective, why is that so hard now?
04:17 And what's the mindset when you know you had to get a yard when you need one?
04:21 >> Well, I think if you apply specifically to Florida,
04:25 I think they have a bunch of big guys up front.
04:28 They do a tremendous job of crawling the ball and things like that.
04:30 But I think overall, just in general, around the country,
04:34 I think it's such a key focal point because it's such a huge down.
04:39 If you stop that, you gain momentum.
04:41 A lot of the time if a team's going for it, is to try and
04:45 pin another team on maybe the inside of the tent.
04:48 It's a lot of things that go into that with those factors.
04:50 It's such a critical down.
04:51 I think defensive quarter is doing a tremendous job of scheming for
04:54 with the adding of the quarterback sneak, different things.
04:57 So it's so many things, it's so meticulous to the things that are happening.
05:03 But it's very important.
05:05 It's really hard just because it's always a game being played inside of a game and
05:09 just understanding, yeah, it's a lot.
05:12 >> Set to your left, how do you like this neutral site location?
05:17 Are you okay with it?
05:18 Do you think it'd be fun to do a little home at home every once in a while?
05:20 >> That's a tough one.
05:24 I think that the neutral site game is good and I have enjoyed playing in it.
05:31 I genuinely really have enjoyed playing and I think it's an amazing atmosphere.
05:35 Going to Jacksonville, having some of your fans, having some of their fans,
05:39 I think it's genuinely good.
05:41 I don't think that the home at home series will be bad, I don't.
05:44 I think it would add some fire to the series because I think playing at
05:50 Sanford Stadium against Florida, I can only imagine the amount of noise that
05:55 would be in there and vice versa playing Georgia in the swamp.
05:59 Who can imagine the amount of sounds that will come out of either of those places?
06:02 But all in all, that's not my decision.
06:06 So I wanna be as respectful as possible, but I've enjoyed the Jacksonville series,
06:12 but I don't think it would be a bad idea to play home at home.
06:16 >> Cedric, what did you think of the job Monroe did against Vanderbilt?
06:20 And how far have you seen him come along just over the course of his freshman year?
06:23 >> So I think that Monroe has done a tremendous job so
06:27 far in the opportunity that he's gotten because I know it's not easy.
06:32 I've been a freshman and I've been a part of where sometimes as a freshman,
06:37 you have no idea what's going on.
06:39 You know nothing about the offense, you know nothing about what your role really
06:43 is, but the fact that he was in a position to where he was able to play and
06:47 help but also do it at a high level, I think it's amazing.
06:50 It says a lot about him.
06:52 I think he is a long way from where he could be and that's so encouraging.
06:56 Because if you're able to play well, and
06:58 you're not even at the brink of the surface of where you could be,
07:02 I think it only says to if you worked what he could be maybe in the future,
07:05 let the Lord say the same.
07:06 So I'm really excited about his future and I'm really, really thankful and
07:12 grateful that he was able to step in to play the way he did.
07:14 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:17 >> Just going back to the Vandy game real quick, in the heat of the moment,
07:20 it looked like Carson fumbled the snap that you ended up picking the ball up and
07:25 carrying for six yards.
07:26 I just wondered just what actually happened on that play.
07:31 And have you lobbied Georgia official stats to give you
07:35 rushing stats there cuz it went in as a team rush?
07:38 >> Well, I don't really care what anybody says, I have a rush.
07:42 So yeah, I'm sure at some point when I leave here, I'll get that framed and
07:47 that'll be in my house forever.
07:50 But I guess in a less serious way, I'm thankful for
07:55 the medical staff, Ryan Madalino and all those guys.
08:00 To be honest, my legs felt great.
08:02 I was able to accomplish some great things on this play and I credit that to them.
08:05 But in all seriousness, it was a botch snap, 100% on me.
08:10 I could sit up here and make excuses about whatever, but I'm not going to.
08:13 It is what it is, I messed it up.
08:15 And the only thing that was going through my mind at that time was just trying to
08:17 figure out a way to get the first down.
08:19 Critical third down, I believe at that time, was down seven.
08:22 And I knew that we had to convert.
08:25 We absolutely had to convert or that game could have gotten ugly really,
08:27 really quick.
08:28 And I know that I made a mistake.
08:29 So the only thing that was going through my mind at that time was find the ball and
08:32 make a play so that you'd never hear about this ever again.
08:34 So that was what was going through my mind.
08:37 >> Got time for two more questions.
08:38 >> Carson's had seven games as Georgia's starting quarterback.
08:43 What have you learned about him in that role?
08:45 >> I don't really think I've learned anything new.
08:49 I think when you play with a guy for so long, you watch him practice and
08:53 you watch the way that he carries himself,
08:54 you kind of already know some things about him.
08:56 Now what I will say is that I've been impressed with his ability to stay
09:03 composed because I know it's not easy being the head of the offense,
09:07 being the quarterback, and when things don't go well, you want to take all the blame.
09:10 But I've been really impressed with his ability to just stay cool, calm, and
09:15 collected, still find a way to encourage guys.
09:18 I think that's the biggest thing,
09:20 is that I think he stepped up in a tremendous way as a leader for us.
09:23 >> Yeah, said, wanna kind of talk about Monroe Freeland a little bit more.
09:30 What have some of those conversations been with him?
09:33 I know Tate Routledge kind of talked to him a little bit about coming in and
09:37 filling some shoes in the game against Vandy.
09:39 But what are some of those conversations that you guys have had with him?
09:42 >> Like then or now?
09:45 So I think the thing about football is I think we do so much here,
09:50 you don't wanna overdo it.
09:51 You don't wanna talk about football 24/7 and
09:54 it only be your basis of a relationship with a person because that's not real.
09:58 That's not genuine.
09:59 If I'm only talking to you about football, I don't care about your parents.
10:03 I don't care about your family, any of that, right?
10:05 So I think the thing is that you build a relationship with him.
10:09 So a lot of the times we're not talking about ball unless we're doing something
10:13 with ball or we're watching extra film or things like that, right?
10:17 But I think in that moment, I think you're talking to him about,
10:20 he's already prepared.
10:21 He's been against some of the best guys in the SEC at practice.
10:24 He's done the work.
10:25 He's been at these extra films such as he's worked extra at the practice with
10:29 Coach Searles, Coach Mary, Coach King, getting this extra technique.
10:32 All of these things, I think it's just instilling the confidence in him
10:36 to know that he'll be fine no matter what he does.
10:38 Just go out there and play free and just trust that you are okay.
10:41 And I think that was the biggest thing at that time was just understanding that
10:45 you have the ability to go out there and do the best that you can.
10:49 And then I think after that, it's just making sure that he know that he played
10:52 well and just not overdoing it.
10:54 Because I think when you start to talk too much about ball,
10:57 it kind of becomes overbearing.
10:58 And then your relationship solely becomes about football and
11:02 that's not really tangible for life.
11:04 >> Thanks, Cedric.
11:06 >> Thanks, Cedric.
11:07 >> God bless y'all.
11:08 Thank y'all.
11:08 [BLANK_AUDIO]
