00:06 In the Philippine Mayors Forum, the President pointed out the important role of LGUs in using the assumed priorities.
00:15 Kenneth Peciente is in the center of the live news.
00:23 Audrey Hinimok of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is the local government that can help the national government to achieve the country's development.
00:33 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gave the important role of local government units in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs or UNDESA.
00:48 The target is to implement 17 interlinked objectives by 2030, including the goal of ending poverty and starvation,
00:57 as well as proper health, education, equality, and others.
01:02 According to the President, this can be achieved with the help of local governments in the country,
01:07 which was pointed out by the Executive Minister when he visited the Philippine Mayors Forum.
01:12 He said that the role of LGUs in implementing the SDGs is very important, especially those who are the first to address the problems in the community.
01:21 We are talking about global issues here, but nonetheless, we depend on the local government.
01:28 There are many good words in the national speech, but the bottom line is you, our local chief executives.
01:43 Because if you can't do all of this, you know that what will happen, we will not reach down to the ground level.
01:54 And that's what we count on local government to do.
01:57 The Executive Minister also emphasized that with the help of LGUs, the SDGs will be better implemented by the Philippine Development Plan,
02:06 which serves as a blueprint for the development planning of the country.
02:10 In the forum, LGUs mayors gathered to have an effective way to implement the different SDGs in their places and especially in the country.
02:21 The President challenged them.
02:23 Let us make good use of this forum. It is going to be a very effective multiplier in terms of the efforts that we bring.
02:35 And the support that the United Nations brings now to this effort is going to be, will accelerate that.
02:44 And will accelerate the capacity building of our local governments.
02:50 The President also promised that the national government will continue to support LGUs to implement the SDGs,
02:58 where the Executive Minister gave the local government code that was established this month.
03:04 We will do everything we can to help face this problem.
03:14 And this, I believe, is very important, especially in this day and age.
03:21 This will strengthen, once again, the autonomy of our local governments.
03:28 And it will give us a direction when we are now, which with Governor Dax is here,
03:35 that we are now putting together the final implementation of the Mandanas-Garcia ruling that is, of course, relevant to all the local government executives.
03:49 The President also urged the local chief executives to do their best for the betterment and development of their communities.
03:57 Meanwhile, the President also signed the RA11964 or the Automatic Income Classification of Local Government Units Act,
04:05 a law that will allow LGUs to have the ability to advance their local autonomy and meet their potentials as LGUs.
04:14 Under the law, provinces, cities and municipalities can be classified depending on their average annual regular income.
04:22 The Finance Secretary ordered, after consulting with the NEDA and the League of LGUs,
04:27 that the income ranges of these will be adjusted based on the actual growth rate of their annual regular income.
04:34 For now, Audrey, the forum continues here and there will be discussions between the local chief executives
04:45 to come up with ways to make the Sustainable Development Goals reach their goals faster.
04:53 That's all for the latest. Back to you, Audrey.
04:55 Kenneth, the government's programs will be faster if they are assisted by national government and local government units.
05:03 But in the forum, are there LGU officials or mayors who expressed their desire to our national government,
05:12 especially since our President has arrived?
05:15 Yes, Audrey, the local chief executives expressed their desire to our national government
05:30 to help them notice and President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured that they will continue to assist our local government units to use the SGS.
05:41 Audrey.
05:42 Thank you very much, Kenneth Paciente.
05:45 paciente.
