The 2011 edition of the Rally de Yantzaza held in the town of Yantzaza, province of Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador, was marred by an accident that claimed the life of a young spectator.

It happened at 18h10 on Sunday, 27 February 2011, shortly after the start of a special stage which course passed along the city limits of Yantzaza. On the approach to a sharp left bend between the Calles Armando Arias and Manchinatza, the red car #347 inexplicably failed to brake and went straight at full speed, ending into a crowd.

The name of the car's driver was not released, according to a source he was Boris Ullauri Arias of Ecuador, this has not yet been confirmed. It is believed that the driver was blinded by a large cloud of dust raised over the dirt road by other competitors. Seven spectators were seriously injured, being taken by ambulances to the Hospital Básico in Yantzaza. A few hours later one of them, Félix Duta, 13-year old, was transferred to the Centro Asistencial de Ciudad de la Inmaculada Concepción de Loja, province of Loja, Ecuador. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A native of Yantzaza, Félix Daniel Duta worked as a shoeshine in another area of the town since he was eight-year-old. The race day he moved to the Calle Armando Arias to watch the rally, with his mother María Duta and stepfather Eduardo Loja, who escaped injuries in the accident.
