00:00 Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I am Luke Owen and this is wrestling news.
00:12 We open today's episode by sending our congratulations to Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who has now officially
00:18 become the longest reigning AEW World Champion of all time, passing Kenny Omega's previous
00:24 record of 346 days.
00:27 Next up, Roman Reigns!
00:31 Unless, of course, Eddie Kingston gets a title show.
00:34 In which case, put the belt on Eddie Kingston.
00:36 The answer should always be, put the belt on Eddie Kingston.
00:38 Sorry, MJF.
00:39 We move our attention now to this weekend's WWE Crown Jewel, which takes place in the
00:43 beautiful, glorious, so progressive city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
00:49 The show will be headlined by Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight for the Universal Championship,
00:53 Seth Rollins defending his title against Drew McIntyre, and Bianca Belair looking to unseat
00:58 Io Skai as the Women's Champion.
01:01 While we are slightly looking ahead to Survivor Series 4, the big returns in the form of either
01:06 Randy Orton or CM Punk, or maybe even both, there has already been one major return for
01:11 WWE confirmed for this Saturday.
01:15 Pre-show matches!
01:16 Sami Zayn will take on J.D. McDonough on the pre-show, which will be the first pre-show
01:20 match in WWE since last year's Clash at the Castle.
01:25 Does anyone remember?
01:26 Does anyone remember what that was?
01:27 I'll tell you what, I'll give you a few moments to have a think on that.
01:31 Have you got it?
01:34 It was Mad Cap Moss and The Street Profits vs. Austin Theory and Alpha Academy.
01:39 No really it was.
01:41 You can see why they stopped doing them really.
01:43 But a bigger return could be in the form of Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
01:47 Vince wormed his way back into WWE following his retirement last year amid several sexual
01:53 misconduct allegations with the Trojan Horse plan of selling the company so he could take
01:57 back control and be in charge of creative once again.
02:00 This spectacularly blew up in his face, as he sold the company and all of his control
02:05 and has been forced out of the creative process so he could focus on selling off the TV rights
02:09 fees - which is really being done by Nick Khan anyway.
02:12 I mean, look, he has made more money in this deal than I'll ever have in ten lifetimes,
02:18 but still.
02:19 Lolz.
02:20 It's been a few weeks since Vince was removed from putting his grubby fingers in the WWE
02:24 creative pie, and the shows have been much better for it.
02:27 But fans had questions about his status at this weekend's Crown Jewel after he was
02:32 photographed and interviewed in Saudi Arabia last weekend ahead of Tyson Fury's boxing
02:38 match.
02:39 He attended the red carpet with The Undertaker of all people.
02:42 He was also photographed ringside with Mike Tyson and Eminem.
02:47 Give me your name of that 90s wrestling faction in the comments down below.
02:51 The Saudi connection is a big one for Vince and his legacy with WWE.
02:56 It is a moneymaker that has seen their two shows in the country each year since 2018
03:01 earn more dollar bucks for the company than any WrestleMania in history.
03:06 There were even rumours and reports that Vince was going to sell WWE to the Saudi government
03:11 earlier this year.
03:12 So him being there in Saudi Arabia ahead of Crown Jewel understandably rang some alarm
03:18 bells for fans.
03:19 However, according to Fightful Select, it is unlikely that Vince McMahon will be at
03:24 Crown Jewel this Saturday as he's already gone home.
03:27 In fact, he flew home on Saturday after the boxing match finished.
03:30 Most of the WWE talent for Crown Jewel flew out yesterday.
03:33 This week's edition of Smackdown was taped last Friday, and Sean Rossapp adds in his
03:37 Fightful Select report that if Vince and Taker do attend, they'll be making a second trip.
03:41 But Vince and pre-show matches aren't the only returns on the books.
03:45 But we'll talk about that in just a moment.
03:48 But first, here's a word
04:10 to end this video.
04:32 The Machine Gun Alex Anderson, The Roller Acosta, Robert Acosta, The Black Blade Petrosa,
04:41 Connor 'The Crusher' Bailey, Champion Zero Fear, Hitman_Soul, The Cleaner, The British
04:50 Bulldog Philip Boy J. Smith Jr., he can lash on for longer than you in the ring, not this
04:57 guy though, Starbucks, Steven Carsten, and the Shield Maiden that's all nice.
05:03 Remember if you want your own special dedicated wrestling nickname, go over to Patreon.com/wrestletalk
05:08 where there's loads more exclusive content.
05:12 AJ Styles has been off TV since September, when he was taken out of his tag match against
05:17 The Bloodline at Fastlane where he was replaced with LA Knight.
05:21 And according to PWInsider, we should be seeing the return of Styles on the November 10th
05:26 edition of Smackdown, which could push him into a program with Roman Reigns leading into
05:30 the Royal Rumble.
05:32 And while Smackdown posted quite a low number for this past Friday due to its move to FS1
05:37 losing over 1 million viewers from the previous week despite Roman Reigns being advertised
05:41 for the show, WWE Raw also posted a near record low for this week's broadcast.
05:48 The show drew an average rating of 1.39 million viewers, with the main event of Sami Zayn
05:54 vs. Damian Priest drawing just 1.2 million viewers - one of the lowest main events in
06:01 the show's illustrious history.
06:04 WrestleNomics' breakdown of the viewership shows a huge dip in the third hour, which
06:08 also featured the Trick or Street Fight.
06:10 As expected, the low number is down to the stiff sports competition.
06:14 The NFL Games drew a combined audience of over 15 million people, while the World Series
06:19 had over 8 million viewers.
06:21 However, both of those numbers are also down from previous years.
06:26 But don't worry folks, it's not all bad news, as while the show was down in males
06:30 18-34 and the over 50s, the show drew a very solid 0.43 in the overall 18-49 demo.
06:38 As Dave Meltzer writes for Figure Four, it's not a bad number at all given the competition.
06:43 WrestleNomics' breakdown also posts something very interesting, which is the highest rated
06:48 segment of the show - and this is the entire show, mind - was the Miz TV segment with Gunther.
06:55 That segment drew 1.6 million viewers, which then dropped off once that segment ended and
07:01 the DIY match started.
07:03 It is a credit to the lasting power of The Miz and the great job WWE have done with the
07:08 presentation of Gunther.
07:10 And speaking of drawing power as champions, it was a fascinating number for AEW Collision
07:16 over the weekend which drew a disappointing 472,000 viewers down nearly 9% from the previous
07:24 week, despite advertising a world title match between MJF and Kenny Omega.
07:30 Like Raw, the show faced stiff competition from sports, which had over 25 million viewers
07:35 tuning in between the NFL and World Series.
07:38 But the interesting part comes from that title match.
07:41 The usual pattern for wrestling ratings on TV is like this, it starts high and then dips
07:47 throughout the night.
07:48 There might be spikes here and there, look at Miz and Gunther from Raw, but by the end
07:52 of the night it's usually at its lowest point.
07:54 Unless it's the overrun, which will see a spike as new viewers tune in to see the
07:58 next show.
07:59 But this week's Collision started at 465,000 viewers and stayed steady with that number
08:05 across the first three quarters before jumping up sharply once the main event started.
08:10 When you compare this to the quarter hour ratings for last week's Dynamite, it's
08:14 a similar story.
08:16 That show started hot for the first half hour with MJF, Bullet Club Gold and Omega, but
08:20 dropped off once that angle ended.
08:22 It's interesting from several points of view, and I'm sure it will be a topic of
08:25 discussion when it comes to AEW renegotiating their TV deal with Warner and MJF's contract
08:31 if he hasn't already signed a new deal, which the scuttlebutt is, he already has.
08:36 It's just more of the fascinating WWE vs. AEW war, which will kick into another gear
08:42 next year.
08:43 Last week WWE announced they'll be taking their PPVs overseas once again with Bash in
08:48 Berlin in Germany.
08:50 This is on top of their announcement that Elimination Chamber will take place in Australia
08:54 next year, and Fightful Select reports there could be another PPV in Europe when WWE takes
09:00 Backlash to Paris, France.
09:03 If that Paris show gets confirmed, that will be five overseas PPVs when you include the
09:08 two Saudi shows.
09:10 Nearly half of WWE's PPVs next year won't be in North America, which is an incredible
09:16 stat and a sign of how big and hot the company is right now.
09:20 But the timing of Bash in Berlin shouldn't go unnoticed.
09:25 Because that show will take place on August 31st, 2024.
09:29 Which is
one week after AEW's All In in Wembley Stadium.
09:34 The idea being that WWE will force the travelling European fans who made up a good portion of
09:40 this year's All In crowd to choose which show they want to go to.
09:44 Do you fly to Germany and see Bash at Berlin, or do you fly to England for All In?
09:49 Dave Meltzer added to this on Wrestling Observer Radio that this was WWE looking to mess with
09:55 the All In 2024 attendance.
09:59 If you think this isn't more than a coincidence, you've not been studying your history.
10:04 But that's enough of the wrestling for now as it's time for my NXT One Minute One Take
10:08 review.
10:09 This should be quite the doozy because we are having some prompter issues.
10:12 Pete is actually sat right by the camera to adjust the prompter when I get things wrong.
10:18 So I'll put one minute on the clock, Pete.
10:26 Let's go!
10:27 Shotzi and Scarlett dressed as the Ghostbusters with an ecto-wands - this is already a five
10:30 star show.
10:31 The Creed Brothers meet Angel Garza and Humberto Carillo in a TLC match, and it looks like
10:34 Joe Gacy is getting a character reboot.
10:37 Tiffany Stratton and Fallon Henley's match didn't get started, and they did a series
10:40 of skits with Metaphor dressed as the cast of Scooby Doo searching for the Heritage Cup.
10:45 Dominik Mysterio retained his title over Nathan Frazier, and Wesley returned to attack Dominik
10:49 Mysterio.
10:50 Brom Breaker beat Mr. Stone with a Wicked Spear, and Von Wagner came out to brawl with
10:54 him.
10:55 Lara Valkyria got a video promo, and Screebs cut a promo on behalf of OTM.
10:59 Chelsea Green and Piper Niven retained their tag titles over Chase Yu, and Lola Vind- Lola
11:04 Bunce beat Kalani Jordan to win the Breakout Tournament, and the main event saw Ilya Dragunov
11:08 retain his NXT Championship over Carmelo Hayes after Trick Williams returned - that's
11:12 the third of the night - to distract Hayes for the finish.
11:14 The show ended with Baron Corbin laying out Dragunov for your next title program.
11:18 There's still 7 seconds on the clock.
11:21 Anyway, that's all from me, go and check out the latest parts fun known video which
11:42 counts down the 10 greatest United States Championship reigns.
