00:00 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:05 >> I think I had some words last week about the start tonight.
00:09 That's just kind of struggling with time.
00:11 What were you guys seeing?
00:12 What were the issues at times on ground?
00:15 >> I feel like guys executed at a pretty high level throughout the night.
00:20 Honestly, it starts with me, but I didn't really execute at my standard.
00:25 So I'm pretty disappointed about that.
00:29 Big shout out to our defense for playing the way that they're playing and
00:32 getting us the ball back and getting us more opportunities.
00:35 So we gotta clean stuff up.
00:38 >> One of the day sketches kind of went viral during the game.
00:41 Were you able to see that?
00:42 What has happened and what did you think of his day?
00:44 What does he mean to the scene?
00:46 >> Yeah, I mean, he was absolutely rolling.
00:50 He's got branders on him.
00:51 So I don't know how I can put it out a little bit farther, but
00:55 an incredible crafting, incredible catch by him.
01:00 He's just a huge spark for our team.
01:03 He can do so many different things.
01:05 He's like a sloth that has outside receiving capabilities.
01:08 So he's very talented, but he does need to be a huge part of our offense.
01:13 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:16 >> Jackson, you guys are 7-1 now.
01:18 You get ready to play Texas A&M, but the stakes getting higher and higher each week.
01:23 You sort of said that this team's prepared to make the kind of run that you guys
01:27 weren't able to do last year?
01:28 >> Yeah, absolutely.
01:29 I mean, that's why we all came here.
01:31 So the standard is to do everything that we can to go 1-0 each and
01:37 every week and live in the moment.
01:40 Not get too proud of ourselves and stay consistent each and
01:44 every week and keep the same mindset.
01:47 >> I know this time of the season everybody's got banded up to a degree.
01:51 What's your health situation at this point?
01:53 >> I'm good.
01:53 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:57 >> Go talk real quick, John.
01:59 >> It's good.
02:00 >> Jackson, I'm kind of going off the 1-0 each week mentality, but
02:04 I know you kind of hold yourself to a very high standard.
02:06 Lane holds the program to kind of that high standard as well.
02:09 But you guys are doing that week to week mentality.
02:12 But based on this four game win streak and how successful you all have been,
02:15 do you think you've kind of seen anything specifically throughout this last month
02:18 that makes you think, okay, maybe we can reach these standards that we have for
02:22 this program?
02:23 >> Like I said, we brought up a lot of guys from the transfer portal.
02:28 I came in last year.
02:29 Our focus coming in here was to win, to play on the biggest stage,
02:35 the highest level, against the best teams and win those games.
02:38 So quite honestly, we kind of had this vision from the off season.
02:44 And so I wouldn't say we're getting too far ahead of ourselves.
02:48 But it's definitely something we can feel good about.
02:53 But at the same time, it's something that we can't feel satisfied.
02:58 We all got to really understand the big reason why we came here, and
03:01 that's the National Championship.
03:04 >> Jackson, aside from the slow start in the second half,
03:06 it seems like this was the first time on this winning streak that your team was
03:10 able to have a little bit of breathing room during the game.
03:13 Just take me through what it's like in that first half offensive performance
03:16 to get that cushion room going in the second half.
03:19 >> Yeah, well, our defense is fighting at an elite level.
03:22 So it's really nice to have that cushion.
03:25 Like I said earlier, I felt like because of the offense's
03:32 little lull that we had, I felt like a large part of that was because of me.
03:35 So I just feel like I gotta clean that stuff up and
03:40 put our guys in the best situation to get the ball to the players.
03:44 >> Jackson, I remember in the summer you were talking about taking a trip
03:49 this offseason, bringing some of your weapons out to California to train with them.
03:54 Now you're eight games in.
03:55 Can you feel the impact that those efforts had?
03:58 >> Yeah, absolutely.
03:59 I mean, we have as a whole group, as a whole room, it's not like we've had
04:04 a ton of time with each other.
04:04 It's not like we've been playing each other for a long time, a lot of us.
04:08 Me and Trey, this is our first year playing together, and
04:12 then everybody else, it's our second year playing together.
04:14 So definitely that extra work that you get outside the facility,
04:19 getting time down and stuff like that, plays a huge role into the season.
04:23 And I think it's definitely paid dividends to
04:27 take an extra time out of our free time to get that work done.
04:30 >> Looking at what your defense was able to do tonight, five sacks for
04:37 the defensive line, one of the top pass rushers in the country.
04:40 Speaking as a quarterback, I guess, what does that do to an opposing quarterback
04:45 from your perspective?
04:46 What kind of damage does that cause?
04:47 >> Yeah, I mean, it's really tough.
04:49 It speeds things up for you.
04:50 I think a lot of times when you start to get hit a lot,
04:54 you kind of get those feelings of the clock running down.
04:59 And the time you have in the pocket, and
05:01 it definitely affects the opposing quarterback.
05:04 And I think it showed that the more pressure that you get,
05:09 the more likely the quarterbacks are gonna make mistakes and
05:13 be able to come to interceptions.
05:16 So a huge part of that was because of the pressure we put on.
05:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:23 >> How would you evaluate yourself on Jordan Lawman's today?
05:27 >> I mean, it's pretty incredible that he's able to play this quickly out of
05:31 the surgery.
05:32 It just says a lot about him.
05:33 I was hoping that he could have got a little bit more
05:38 some cheers when they announced his name as a starter.
05:43 For the team, it means a lot for me that he's willing to put himself out there when
05:46 he's nowhere near 100% with his hand.
05:48 And kind of just grind it out and put the team first.
05:53 And that just says a lot about him and what he's about.
05:58 >> I don't think Ted is gonna catch tonight.
06:03 How do you feel about, I guess, getting him more involved?
06:05 Do you think that would be better for the offense going forward?
06:09 >> Yeah, well, I missed Hudson on the touchdown earlier in the game.
06:13 So that would have been a big play.
06:16 But it's a week to week thing.
06:19 You kind of have guys like D-Way where you might have a few slow games and
06:24 all of a sudden he lights up.
06:25 It's hard to predict when guys are gonna have a really big game versus
06:29 have a slower game.
06:30 But I think a big part of their role is how great they are in the run game as well.
06:35 They said a lot of, I mean, I said this last week,
06:39 you saw how our run game started off this year without pre-scoring.
06:42 And when Hudson got hurt,
06:44 then they kind of came in and looked at how electric our run game is now.
06:47 So they do a lot of really great things that doesn't really shine as much
06:52 in the spotlight.
06:52 But they're also great for pass catches, so
06:55 I definitely think we can use them a little bit more.
06:57 But definitely like that earlier target in the game that was on me on
07:01 the touchdown.
