00:00 So five years ago we embarked on our vision for an East Bank as one of the legacies of the Olympics.
00:07 What this was about is having some of the world's finest institutions here in the East End,
00:12 plugged into the East End.
00:14 And I'm really pleased now we've got University College London open, 5,000 students.
00:20 University of Arts London, the London College of Fashion, open, 5,000 students.
00:25 Sunders will also open next year, and the year after V&A and BBC will be opening here at the East Bank.
00:31 And what they've all guaranteed is they'll be involving the local community in their projects,
00:36 so they can benefit from being students at the universities, benefit from the V&A Sunders as well as the BBC being here.
00:42 What's great is that we now have an education and cultural powerhouse here in the East End, really exciting.
00:48 But I've been really keen to make sure local people benefit from the Olympic legacy.
00:52 I was really concerned when I first became mayor that some of the homes built here were unaffordable to local residents.
00:58 I was really concerned the Olympics came and went, and local residents didn't see the long-term benefits.
01:03 The good news with the East Bank is the regeneration will lead to not just long-term benefits,
01:08 but local people will benefit from London College of Fashion being here, from UCL being here,
01:14 from BBC, V&A, Sunders as well as working with the community so they can see the benefits of the regeneration.
01:20 we do not want to happen is regeneration of the expenses of the local community.
