Cleary Celtic's first goalscorer Marty Havern spoke to us this afternoon, after his side defeated Newry Celtic 2-0 to win a fourth-straight Mid Ulster Shield title.
Transcript
00:00Marty, first and foremost, congratulations. Midlands of the Shield of Champions. How does that feel?
00:04That feels good, to be honest. I've put a bit of pressure on myself.
00:08The Ways have won three years previous as my first year in, so I wanted to get 100 join in.
00:13But it's big for the club. It's massive. I think it's only the second thing we do.
00:17So there's a lot of pressure. And you can tell in the game, it was edgy.
00:20But the last one of the men just up and up, probably the run of the ball.
00:24Hyped game, but yeah, delighted.
00:26Probably you touched on the first half of the week with KG. Probably the EuroCeltic had the better chances.
00:30But after half-time, you were the better. Anything really change?
00:34To be honest, in the first half, I was getting to the join. We had the final ball.
00:38And our final ball was killing us. As in EuroCeltic, we were never getting behind them.
00:41And they probably should have scored. They probably should have run in the front.
00:44But the second half, we did take it out. And the big moments just meant for us. You know what I mean?
00:49We did finish the strongest. We knew we were still in the game.
00:53And to take the game, I thought 1-1-0 would have finished. I would have done it first. Delightedly.
00:57And a great crowd here. I don't know how much you can even experience that on the pitch.
01:01But a huge crowd here and brilliant for an early football, wasn't it?
01:03Yeah, it was great. It was great to get the game here at the early, to be honest.
01:05This, probably, after 10 years or years, and probably the last time I've ever been in here.
01:09So I'm glad to go out. It was delighted when I was here.
01:11I like playing an old man, I don't know. But it was great to see.
01:13We knew we'd get the big crowd. And it was a great crowd.
01:16So it's great for local football. You know what I mean?
01:18It has been great down here, the club itself. But for local football, it's good. It's good today.
01:22Yeah, and between yourselves and your yourselves, it's a brilliant rivalry forming, isn't it?
01:25Yeah, yeah.
01:26You have finals, going for the Premier Division, and you can see each other a lot more.
01:29Well, we will. I see a big game Saturday. Let's call this half-time.
01:32Because this is a big competition, but the league's massive for us too.
01:35So, we'll see them on Saturday, and it's obviously games and throw them in.
01:38It's a serious fight, again. So, if you could be any, you throw us through the game,
01:42and then watch it. It'll be just as fierce as ever.
01:45Brilliant work, yeah?
01:46Alright, thank you. Cheers.
01:47Yeah!
