00:05 with the commanders and just kind of how it went throughout and what was kind of the thing
00:10 that pushed it over the goal line?
00:13 Yeah, so Martin and I had touched base quite a while ago, maybe two weeks ago, and just
00:21 the likelihood I was gauging, you know, the likelihood that he would be available.
00:27 And Martin thought that there was a good chance it would be in play.
00:30 And you know, we had been tracking Chase for some time.
00:35 Martin did a really good job.
00:36 I'm very appreciative.
00:37 He and I are great friends.
00:38 I mean, he was a mentor of mine when I arrived in Tampa.
00:41 We played in the same secondary.
00:43 So we go way back, one of the first calls when I got here to see if he would come join
00:47 me.
00:50 And you know, I think relationships matters in these things.
00:54 And he did a really, you know, I'm very appreciative.
00:57 He kept us in the loop, you know, because we were looking at a variety of things.
01:02 And he just kind of kept coming back saying, here's where it's at.
01:05 And ultimately, you know, probably when it when it did, you know, in terms of timeline,
01:12 when did it break?
01:13 When was that?
01:14 You guys know, time wise?
01:17 I'm thinking around 1030, 11.
01:20 Was that when it was?
01:21 About 1130.
01:22 Yeah, so it was it was fairly late in the game.
01:27 I mean, this wasn't something I went to bed, you know, Monday night, knowing that we were
01:33 going to do this deal.
01:34 We were talking about a few.
01:36 And I don't know, I had an ear.
01:38 I had this feeling, going to bed and I didn't sleep very well and waking up that nothing
01:44 was going to come to fruition just because it's I don't know, the more people do these,
01:48 it seems like the cop is getting higher and higher.
01:51 And, you know, we probably got spoiled a little bit last year and in getting Christian, but
01:56 not only such a great player, but getting a player who you had for, you know, years
02:01 to come.
02:02 And so, you know, that that's a little more attractive than somebody who's got on an expiring
02:07 deal.
02:08 But ultimately, we felt like this would give us, you know, a boost.
02:12 You know, we really like Chase's film.
02:14 We like where he was, you know, seemingly from a health standpoint, obviously, as with
02:21 any player, all these deals which are agreed in principle are contingent upon passing physical.
02:28 So he's got to clear that hurdle today, but he's been playing.
02:32 So that's kind of how it went down.
02:34 Was it Chase from the outset in your conversation with Martin or was Montez Schwett a consideration,
02:41 other defensive ends around the league of consideration?
02:45 Yeah, early on, early on in the game.
02:51 Not in the game, in mine and Martin's conversation, it was just Chase.
02:56 At some point, Martin said, hey, listen, for the right price, Schwett could likely be,
03:02 could be had as well.
03:04 And you know, so that's kind of where it was.
03:14 Back to Chase's health status.
03:15 I mean, obviously he missed, you know, about a year and a half of games that the commanders
03:21 have been playing him a bunch this year.
03:23 I mean, he played 75 snaps against Atlanta.
03:27 So are you seeing that he looks healthy, fully healthy or just healthy enough where he's
03:32 kind of a rotational guy?
03:34 I'm like you, Cam.
03:35 I kept turning on the tape and, you know, like 75, 64, you know, those are a lot of
03:42 snaps.
03:43 But, you know, I think the proof is in, you know, what's translating on the field.
03:49 And he's been, he's been playing a lot and looking, you know, really good.
03:53 So you know, there's, you know, there's preliminary medical stuff where they send medical files
04:00 and all that.
04:01 And then the last step is, you know, him flying out here today and doing the actual physical.
04:07 So you know, we hope that all goes well, but it sure looks like he's been healthy based
04:12 upon what he's been doing on the field.
