Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship Joey Beltran vs Houston Alexander
Transcript
00:00 >> A call by Hadley.
00:02 Not will they knock down.
00:05 Again, Wilson, you saw snaps to the side.
00:07 Headlock and Kru continue to punch.
00:10 >> Which is a legal maneuver like the one that I showed you.
00:13 That is a great position to hit with a lot of hard right hands.
00:16 >> Tonight's Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is back
00:21 in one of the best fight cities in the United States, Omaha, Nebraska,
00:25 coming to you live from Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
00:29 >> Tonight's main event, light weight, Sean Wilson versus Kevin Kruge.
00:33 And this evening's main event, set for the cruiserweight division,
00:37 Houston Alexander versus former BKFC heavyweight champion, Joey Beltran.
00:44 Hey, everyone.
00:45 With Chris "Lights Out" Lytle, I'm Sean Wheelock.
00:48 Chris, a rematch somewhat in tonight's main event.
00:52 January 2010 in pro MMA, Houston Alexander versus Joey Beltran.
00:58 It was a post-UFC Houston Alexander, a pre-UFC Joey Beltran.
01:02 Beltran winning by way of second round TKO due to grounded power.
01:06 >> Yeah, it is a rematch, but not really.
01:08 Totally different style, totally different fights.
01:10 However, in that fight, Joey Beltran was able to do what he was supposed to do,
01:15 and he was taking Houston Alexander out of his game.
01:17 He knew he didn't want to stand in front of him and try to punch him,
01:19 so what did he do?
01:20 He pushed him into the fence, took him down, wore him down,
01:23 and stopped him in the second.
01:24 Now, you cannot take somebody down here, obviously,
01:26 but he can get inside, grind, push the face, wear him down.
01:30 That's what Joey Beltran does better than anybody.
01:32 He makes people fight his fight.
01:34 He does not want to stand in front of Houston and try to punch him,
01:37 so that's going to be the game plan, bring him into the deep water.
01:40 >> At 205 pounds, Houston Alexander versus Joey Beltran.
01:45 >> Sean, everything fairly close right here.
01:47 Beltran a slight reach advantage.
01:49 I think the main thing is the weight, Houston Alexander, 202,
01:52 but that is a natural weight when you have Joey Beltran coming down from heavyweight.
01:56 [music]
02:16 >> Joey Beltran, the former BKFC heavyweight champion.
02:21 34 fights in his pro-MMA career, including a bout in January 2010
02:27 when he defeated Houston Alexander by way of second-round TKO due to ground-and-pound.
02:34 Beltran in pro-MMA, 10 fights in the UFC.
02:38 [music]
02:41 This is his 10th tonight in BKFC.
02:44 Beltran said in our fighter meeting, "I want to be fast first and then gone."
02:51 >> Great saying right there.
02:53 He feels like he's much more confident, much more experienced than the first time they fought.
02:58 Feels like he wants to make sure he's dominating in all aspects,
03:01 inside, outside, everywhere the fight goes.
03:04 [music]
03:07 >> Beltran said, "Footwork is my key to victory.
03:10 I'll throw the jab and keep moving throughout."
03:14 >> Knowledge and control of the reins is what's going to win him this fight, he feels.
03:19 [music]
03:46 >> Bout number three in Barenuckle Fighting Championship for Houston Alexander.
03:51 He enters at 2-0.
03:53 Both wins by way of knockout.
03:56 36 fights in Alexander's pro-MMA career, including a half dozen in the UFC and five in Bellator.
04:03 He's also had two pro-boxing bouts.
04:06 Alexander told us, "I want to be elusive.
04:09 I want to avoid taking shots.
04:11 I want to showcase my boxing in this fight."
04:14 >> Controlled aggression is what he wants to control.
04:17 He'll have the volume, wants to make sure he's like he talked about.
04:21 Really there, throwing hard punches, not getting hit, elusive.
04:25 That was the main thing he kept talking about.
04:27 "I got to be elusive. This is not the sport to trade punches."
04:30 >> Alexander said, "I know that Joey Beltran will keep coming forward.
04:35 I know that he will try to establish the jab.
04:38 I can't sit back, be passive and wait.
04:41 I have to throw with a high volume, and I don't want to throw soft shots."
04:46 >> One thing, too, he doesn't want a long, drawn-out fight.
04:48 He knows it's to his advantage to try and end this fight early.
04:52 That's what he plans on doing.
04:54 >> Once again, Jeff Houston.
05:01 >> Ladies and gentlemen, we are now set for the main event!
05:14 Scheduled for five two-minute rounds in the Cruiserweight division.

06:34 His bare-knuckle record stands at 5 victories,
06:37 opposite 3 defeats, with 1 fight even.
06:41 He is the former BKFC World Heavyweight Champion,
06:48 fighting out of Miami, Florida,
06:52 by way of Carlsbad, California.
06:58 Here is Joey "The Mexicutioner" Beltran.
07:12 And across the ring, his opponent,
07:14 fighting out of the blue corner.
07:16 Tonight, he wears black and red.
07:18 He stands at even 6 feet tall.
07:20 His official weight, 202.1 pounds.
07:24 He is undefeated in the squared circle at 2-0,
07:29 fighting out of Omaha, Nebraska,
07:35 by way of East St. Louis, Illinois.
07:40 Here is the undefeated Houston,
07:44 the Assassin, Alexander!
07:53 >> Joey Beltran said, "I'm going to start
08:00 "landing quickly off this scratch line,
08:02 "and then turn up the pressure."
08:05 >> We're starting to go with that shell defense
08:07 you can see right now, son.
08:09 >> Round number one.
08:10 Black and red trucks for Houston Alexander,
08:12 black trucks for Joey Beltran.
08:15 Stiff jab from Alexander.
08:19 This is it for Houston Alexander.
08:21 >> Alexander, when he hits you with anything,
08:23 it's powerful and it hurts.
08:26 >> Alexander to the body.
08:30 On the outside, overhand right.
08:32 Camera right hand for Joey Beltran.
08:35 And for Alexander, right hand.
08:42 Alexander, another right hand,
08:43 stepping it off the 1-2.
08:45 >> That's what I'm saying right now.
08:46 You can just see the difference right here.
08:48 Alexander just staying very nice,
08:50 very patient.
08:51 Joe Beltran moving a lot.
08:58 >> 70 seconds remaining, round number one
09:00 of the main event.
09:03 Overhand right, left hand from Houston Alexander.
09:07 The center of Houston for the Omaha crowd.
09:11 Back right hand from Alexander.
09:13 Beltran's on the ground, left hook to the face,
09:15 takes the round off the top of the plate.
09:17 Left hand from Alexander.
09:21 The face of class for Joey Beltran,
09:23 the separation from Andrew Glenn.
09:25 >> Beltran right there, he's got a tie,
09:27 he's going punches.
09:31 Alexander, to land with the 1.
09:34 Now the 1-2, 2 again.
09:36 Double underhooks from Joey Beltran.
09:39 Separation again from Glenn, and back to it.
09:42 25 seconds remaining, round one.
09:45 Another stiff jab, another from Houston Alexander.
09:48 Into the clinch.
09:57 Jab again from Houston Alexander.
10:00 Houston Alexander, of course, continuing to be first
10:02 here in round number one.
10:06 Just like that by hand.
10:08 Overhand right there is the bell.
10:10 We knew, correct.
10:11 >> That did the most damage of the fight right there.
10:14 You can see Beltran stumbling off,
10:16 and there's a fight in the ground,
10:18 there's a round in the last of ten.
10:20 >> And here's the end of that round,
10:27 it looks like.
10:34 You can see that Joey Beltran did not handle that punch
10:37 the way he normally does.
10:42 Like the most hurt he was in the entire round,
10:45 was right there with the end.
10:47 Good thing that round ended for him.
10:53 >> Time called by Andrew Glenn.
10:55 This is a medical timeout.
10:58 Beltran now told to see if he can't see his chief medical
11:01 officer, Dr. Don Muzi.
11:06 One clear from Dr. Muzi, now the start of round number two.
11:11 Beltran immediately trying to stay busy off the jab.
11:14 There's a big jab from Houston Alexander.
11:19 >> And once your belt driver can get on the inside
11:21 and push Houston around, and if it can be some sort
11:24 of third of action on the inside.
11:27 >> That's right, leading from his left eye.
11:29 >> Left hand.
11:32 Now a left hand.
11:35 Alexander coming in high with the right hand,
11:37 left hook right to the body.
11:40 Now right handed, it could be now.
11:43 Huge shots left hand, Beltran turning,
11:46 and that is it.
11:48 The win for Houston Alexander, who's now 3-0 in CKLC.
11:53 And Beltran's eye was a mess right there.
11:55 You could tell he was having trouble seeing out of it.
11:58 I'm not sure if that's one of the reasons they stopped him,
12:00 but he was going to have problems from that eye.
12:05 >> Chris, when I refer to professional boxing,
12:08 and it holds true now, two decades later in BKFC,
12:12 I was taught, as referees are taught,
12:15 when a fighter turns their back, that's the equivalent
12:17 of tapping out in MMA.
12:20 It is a physical surrender.
12:22 Watch Joey Beltran at the end of this fight.
12:24 He completely turns his back.
12:28 >> And that was just the jab right there that did some damage.
12:31 You can see just like at the end of the first round,
12:34 another one just right on the same spot.
12:36 It cut his eye open.
12:41 And see how he turns around right here.
12:44 That was way to turn his back right there,
12:46 so that's what you're talking about.
12:47 >> And that's immediately recognized by Andrew Glenn
12:50 for the stoppage.
12:52 Again, that's essentially-- and it's involuntary, I realize,
12:55 but it's essentially tapping out in MMA.
12:58 It's called a physical submission amongst referees.
13:03 MMA is a 360-degree sport.
13:05 Boxing, bare knuckle are 180-degree sports.
13:09 You cannot turn your back to your opponent
13:11 and continue the fight.
13:12 >> Like you said, there's nothing that says you give up
13:14 like turning away, giving up your back,
13:17 is basically doing it, like you said,
13:19 you step out, you turn around, you make yourself defenseless.
13:22 That guy can still hit you in the night right there.
13:25 So I understand as soon as he turned like that,
13:28 the referee was getting ready to--
13:29 and he might have been ready to stop that anyway
13:31 because you can just see from the eye and the way
13:33 Beltran wasn't handling the punches very well.
13:36 It seemed like a matter of time until he got here.
13:38 >> Houston Alexander has said,
13:39 "I have no animosity towards Dewey Beltran.
13:42 I'm not seeking revenge for my loss against Beltran
13:46 in 2010 in pro MMA."
13:49 But somewhere you would have to think
13:51 Houston Alexander is thinking to himself,
13:54 "This is a little bit of vengeance for that loss."
13:58 Quality from Houston Alexander
14:01 against one of the best fighters in the history of EKFC,
14:04 Joey Beltran.
14:05 Here's Jeff Houston.
14:07 >> Ladies and gentlemen, our referee in charge,
14:09 Andrew Glenn, steps in and calls a stop to this fight
14:12 at 38 seconds into round number two.
14:15 And our winner by TKO and still undefeated,
14:20 Houston "The Assassin" Alexander!
14:29 [cheers and applause]
14:33 >> Houston.
14:36 [crowd murmuring]
14:45 >> All right, congrats.
14:47 Big win.
14:48 Every time we come to Omaha, you show out, man.
14:50 You're still undefeated in BKFC.
14:53 Talk about beating a legend like Joey Beltran.
14:57 >> First off, Nebraska is in the building!
15:04 [cheers and applause]
15:09 >> Shouts out to Joey.
15:11 Great competition.
15:12 He's always been that guy.
15:14 So it was an honor to be in the ring with him.
15:17 >> You know, they always say, "Houston, we have a problem."
15:19 Well, Houston, you are the problem
15:21 for that cruiserweight division.
15:23 Obviously, we have a champion, a new champion,
15:25 a Lorenzo Hunt, but you're undefeated
15:28 in kind of a shallow division.
15:30 You got to believe that you're in the conversation
15:32 for an opportunity with the champ.
15:34 >> I'm more than in contention.
15:37 I want the belt.
15:39 I want the belt for Nebraska.
15:41 We're gonna bring the belt back to Omaha, Nebraska.
15:44 Nebraska's in the building!
15:46 >> I'm just gonna ask you right now,
15:48 you keep winning here in the BKFC.
15:50 Who helps you get to this point?
15:52 Who are the people that get you to these opportunities
15:54 that get you through these fights?
15:56 >> My family, my friends, and my whole community.
15:59 And shouts out to everybody all over the world
16:01 who's always supported me.
16:03 So community first.
16:05 Community first, everybody.
16:07 >> All right, Omaha, let's hear it for your own
16:09 Houston Alexander.
16:12 >> And Houston Alexander just keeps rolling
16:15 with great offense right there and much improved defense.
16:18 He is definitely the next contender
16:20 for that title fight right there.
16:22 >> Houston Alexander told us he wanted to showcase his boxing.
16:26 Indeed, he did.
16:28 Tight, technical, powerful,
16:31 getting Beltran to turn his back.
16:33 Andrew Glenn comes in.
16:35 That's the end of our main event.
16:37 The winner by way of second round TKO,
16:40 Houston Alexander defeats Joey Beltran.
16:43 [music]
