00:04 Ooh, I think, I think this is a little bit of a loaded question just because I
00:10 think that the 49ers won the chase young trade.
00:15 I think that trade, if I was great in that trade, I would give it an A plus
00:19 because I don't feel like there's any risk.
00:21 It's not like they added a bunch of money to their books.
00:24 They don't have to commit to them long-term and really all they did
00:27 was give up a compensatory pick.
00:29 So I think they won that trade.
00:31 I don't necessarily think they won the trade deadline though.
00:35 And those two things are separate to me.
00:37 I feel like the 49ers really, if they were going to win this trade deadline
00:41 would somehow have brought in something to beef up their offensive line, which
00:45 would have been really, really hard to do because most teams are not willing
00:49 to give up offensive linemen or they would have beefed up their secondary.
00:54 And they did neither of those things.
00:55 So they got a good player.
00:56 I think they got better.
00:58 I think they certainly won that trade, but I don't necessarily think they won
01:02 the trade deadline because of those things.

01:05 Like, did they improve as much as the Seahawks did again?
01:08 The Seahawks added Leonard Williams, Frank Clark to their defense.
01:11 They're in first place.
01:12 They have two losses.
01:14 The Niners have three, which team improved more.
01:16 I would think, I think Seattle mostly because that's a position of need for
01:22 them, it would have been like the 49ers getting a cornerback, right.
01:27 Cause their secondary is good.
01:28 They have Devin Witherspoon.
01:29 They have Tariq Woolen.
01:30 Right.
01:31 They have a bunch of players back there.

01:32 I think, I think the Seahawks won the trade deadline and you said it was an
01:36 A plus trade for the 49ers.

01:39 But from Washington's perspective, like they didn't want Chase Young at all.
01:42 He was a massive disappointment for them in a lot of ways.
01:45 So I guess there's not a lot of risk.
01:49 That's what you could say.
01:50 You give him a third round pick that you didn't really need and you have more,
01:54 but it's not necessarily a slam dunk that he's going to be a big time producer.
01:59 He wasn't that for Washington.

02:01 Well, I mean, he instantly comes to a team and leads the team in sacks or, you
02:07 know, he has more sacks than anybody on the team.
02:08 I guess he doesn't lead the team per se, because he hasn't gotten a sack on the
02:12 team, but he has more sacks than anybody else on this team right now at this point
02:16 in the year.

02:17 One thing we can't say about Chase Young though, is.
02:24 We can't presume that he's going to improve the way that other players, we
02:29 would say that about because they're getting coached by Kaciric and they're
02:32 coming to a team with a lot better players around him.
02:35 He is coming from a Washington team that had really, really good
02:39 players on that defensive line.
02:41 So he was already playing with an elite defensive line and now he's just
02:46 joining, presumably another one.
02:48 I do think it's interesting that the Niners are seem adamant that
02:52 they're one defensive end away.
02:54 From being the best team in the league.
02:56 That's what they think it is.
02:58 Like they thought it was Drake Jackson.
03:00 They put all their eggs in that basket.
03:02 Didn't work out.
03:03 Then they pivoted to Randy Gregory, gave them three weeks.
03:06 We're unsatisfied.
03:08 And now they're going to chase you option number three.
03:10 And we'll see, like, is this, is this guy going to be their version
03:14 of Christian McCaffrey this year?
03:15 Is he going to transform things?
03:17 I feel like the problem with the team, I keep saying it today is
03:20 like, you can't stop the run.
03:22 You keep giving up quick completions.
03:23 That's the best way to negate a pass rush, run the ball and throw quick passes.
03:29 You keep giving those up.
03:30 I don't care how many pass rushes you have.

03:35 Yeah, I think you're, you're definitely right about that.
03:38 There's other things that need to be fixed.
03:40 He's not going to come in and due to the defense, in my opinion, by himself,
03:45 what CMC was able to do to the offense.
03:47 Immediately CMC brought CMC brought a whole different element.
03:51 Then what they had had last year, they went from 18 points a game
03:54 to 26 points a game overnight.
03:56 And that was because of CMC.
03:58 If their defense improves, it's not because just chase young now chase
04:04 young certainly should make them better, but not so much better that all of a
04:10 sudden they go from where they've been the last few weeks to an elite defense.
04:14 That if that happens, that's because they just fix things internally.
04:17 Okay.
04:19 And I guess my final question here is the Niners clearly feel they're a
04:22 defensive, a good defensive end away opposite Bosa from being the
04:27 best team in the league.
04:28 Is that true?
04:29 Are they right?
04:32 No, no.
04:33 I mean, I, I think that the 49ers Kyle Shanahan said it, John Lynch said it,
04:38 and I agree with him.
04:39 They already had a bunch of assets dumped into that defensive line.
04:43 So to me, they had the pieces in house to make this work.
04:47 Certainly doesn't hurt by any means, but I don't think that, no, I can't
04:53 correlate those two.
04:54 Absolutely not.
04:55 No.
04:56 I mean, maybe if chase young can set the edge against the run, that'll help.
04:59 But until someone can do that, the way Samson EPCOM did last year, Niners are
05:04 going to have a problem.
05:04 And I don't know that pass rush is going to solve it because if you look at their
05:08 pressure rates, their pass rush looks like it's technically better than last
05:11 year, just not having as much time to finish the job.
05:13 So did they win at the trade deadline?
05:15 It would have been nice.
05:16 They had gotten a corner.
05:18 Or run defender or an offensive lineman, but they got chase young.
05:22 And I think they're looking at him, like maybe they look at him like, here's what
05:26 he has in common with Christian McCaffrey.
05:27 He burst on the scene.
05:30 He was good.
05:30 Immediately.
05:31 He missed a couple of years with injury and now it looks like he's healthy and
05:35 producing.
05:36 That's pretty much the Christian McCaffrey trajectory.
05:38 And then he blossomed in the Niners.
05:41 Yeah.
05:43 And I think he can blossom over here.
05:44 I, and I don't think he was playing bad with Washington.
05:47 Heck the last year, I believe the 49er game was the first game he had coming off
05:53 that injury was against the 49ers.
05:56 And I thought he played really good.
05:57 Then you definitely can see that he impacts the game.
06:00 That's why I said, I think it is an a plus trade just because of what they gave up
06:04 and what they're potentially getting.
06:06 I just don't think it was the biggest position of need.
06:08 Take, take Drake Jackson and chase young and the gap of skill between those two.
06:14 And now apply that to a corner that they could have inserted into the starting
06:19 lineup between Oliver and, and whatever corner they got, like whatever that talent
06:25 gap is, that would have been used in a lot better fashion for the defense.
06:31 Then I would say a pass rusher would at this point.
