00:00 Frazier has not left the building. He's back. Back for good. Y'all know how this goes.
00:09 Hey baby I hear the blues a-callin', tossed salads and scrambled eggs.
00:15 When they came up with the show Frazier, they called and wanted a theme. They
00:21 wanted something that was kind of jazzy, so I wrote the song itself. I wrote the
00:27 music. Then I called my friend Darryl Finnessy to do the lyrics. The
00:32 instructions for the lyrics were, I remember David Angel saying, "Don't
00:35 mention Seattle. Don't mention Frazier. Don't mention psychiatrists. Don't
00:40 mention anything having to do with the show, but make it germane to the show." So
00:44 Darryl did a good job with tossed salads and scrambled eggs, things that are mixed
00:49 up. When the show first went out, when we cut the pilot together, it didn't have
00:53 music yet. They hadn't bought it yet. So Bruce came up with this tune and I
00:59 actually said to the producers, "Oh by the way, I'm gonna sing this song." Because I
01:05 always wanted to sing a theme song. I thought, "Well, it's my time. This is the
01:08 only shot I'll ever have." So I told him I'm doing the theme song. They said, "Well,
01:13 okay." It's nice when you have an actor that can sing. Thank you. You use it.
01:18 Hey baby, I hear the blues are calling tossed salads and scrambled eggs.
01:25 And maybe I seem a bit confused. Yeah, maybe. But I got you pegged.
01:31 The thing I liked about the original spirit of the theme song, what we ended up
01:35 having, was the fact that he's always discovering life. That it's always
01:39 confusing. There's always something on a surprise. But he's gonna
01:43 figure it out and that's what I liked. You know, I got you pegged. It's
01:47 gonna be okay. I got this. Yeah, so I like the first part of the penultimate one
01:51 and the second part of the last one. And you guys can mix in what you like.
01:55 Yeah, we'll comp it and we'll, I mean, obviously you'll approve, but we'll just go through.
01:58 We'll shoot it to you. Fantastic. And the last bunch, the more mellow ones. Yeah. We'll just go with those.
02:02 Really like those. Yeah. That's where I wanted it to be. Yeah. It's infused with
02:06 personality. It's really fun. And you can almost believe that it's the way
02:10 Frazier would actually kind of look at music. So it's been a fun kind of
02:14 melding of two styles. I'm really happy with where we are and I think we're gonna
02:20 turn some heads.
02:22 Hey baby I hear the blues are calling tossed salads and scrambled eggs.
02:27 And maybe I seem a bit confused. Yeah, maybe. But I got you pegged.
02:34 But I don't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs. Life's
02:42 calling again. Good night Boston. We love you.
