00:00 Well conditions are easing here on Queensland's southern downs after several large spot fires
00:08 ripped through the region earlier this week.
00:11 Yesterday we saw some fires erupt on the side of the New England Highway between Warwick
00:15 and Dalveen.
00:17 Waterbombing helicopters were quick to arrive on scene and put those blazes out, but there's
00:22 still a watch and act alert for fires in this region and locals are being encouraged not
00:26 to return.
00:27 The focus now is on the recovery efforts, which for primary producers in this region
00:32 is going to be the next challenge.
00:35 Many people in this region have stock cattle and sheep and with fires ripping through properties
00:40 like the one just behind me, there's just no feed left on the ground.
00:45 It's already been pretty dry here in recent months.
00:48 We haven't had a lot of rain here and with cattle prices quite low, that's going to be
00:52 the next struggle for graziers here.
00:55 Now there is some good news on the way, rain is forecast for this region today and in coming
01:01 days.
01:02 Firefighters on the ground are pretty happy to hear about that, but there is a concern
01:06 that with rain will come lightning strikes which could breathe new life into some of
01:11 these fires.
01:12 So the battle isn't over yet.
