00:18 in the ring is well perhaps young is one way to put it but certainly at 27 years
00:23 of age you would certainly think that he would be actually 26 years of age for
00:28 Edward Hemphill from Woodbridge Virginia in a light heavyweight division called
00:32 the heat Edward Hemphill was not necessarily thinking about fighting
00:36 Irish Joe McCready on this night actually got a call earlier in the week
00:41 and he was a last-minute replacement but as a replacement he's one hell of a
00:46 fighter he's actually a very good fighter belying that five five and one
00:50 record Hemphill is a veteran he'll prove it he'll go anywhere to fight well
00:56 because of the fact that I like to try to get known you know and more than one
00:59 state because I'm naturally from Philadelphia you know I mean so I like
01:02 to just I can get it all over this East Coast you know down south that's all I
01:05 like to get I like to go overseas if I can coming into the ring then I mentioned
01:10 a few moments ago Irish Joe McCready from Lowell Mass a former Lowell High
01:14 football player this will be his last fight at light heavyweight he was
01:19 looking to drop to the super middleweight division following this
01:22 bout set himself up for the rest of his career Norman Stone very well known to
01:27 boxing fans in the New England area Stoney as he gets them all ready for
01:31 this fight McCready's an interesting kid it's been a tough layoff for him he said
01:35 to spend some time out of the ring but most of that is because he wants to box
01:38 but he also would like to take care of his family um yeah it's definitely tough
01:42 you know my last fight you know I get head-butted so I was off for about four
01:47 you know between three to four months and you know and just just living as a
01:51 fighter when you're off you're struggling with the bills and stuff
01:54 like that and so I don't think I really been doing is just staying in the gym
02:00 staying in shape you know I'm just waiting for the cut to
02:02 heal and now the cut's healed and now I'm back in business the matchup between
02:06 these two boxers Joe McCready and Edward Hempfield Irish Joe versus the Heat
02:11 there is a a short and I should say that very easily a short height reach for
02:16 him Phil he's only got a couple of inches there Max he also has a couple of
02:20 pounds in weight he's got a big reach advantage over McCready so it'll be a
02:24 tough fight for McCready he will learn something undoubtedly but the time all
02:28 is said and done with Edward Hempfield let's throw it up to our ring announcer
02:31 Wayne Sorgs ladies and gentlemen this bout is scheduled for four rounds of
02:39 light heavyweight action introducing first in the red corner from Lowell
02:50 Massachusetts at 172 and three-quarter pounds ladies and gentlemen Joseph
03:01 McCready and in the blue corner he hails from Woodbridge Virginia at 178 pounds

03:21 six rounds of boxing between these two fighters I gotta tell you here's another
03:28 young man that I'm very impressed when I get a chance to see him like Irish Joe
03:31 McCready four-month layoff for the young man but he still has a tremendous amount
03:35 of potential yeah he was severely cut in his last fight he had a layoff to let
03:39 that heal it's all healed up but he is thinking about moving down to super
03:44 middle and I think that is a better better division for him especially at
03:48 his height he can he can afford to I think he can afford to carry that weight
03:52 better than dealing with the guys that are in the 170s and 180s
03:57 Hempfield is coming off a real good win in his last fight and he won a four-round
04:04 decision over undefeated fighter so he feels like he's coming along his five and
04:08 five record my word on him is when he's in shape and he seems to be tonight he's
04:12 a real tough fighter I want to correct myself this fight was originally
04:15 scheduled for six rounds but it is now a four round bout between the two Edward
04:21 Hempfield who you really will not know a whole lot about but this will be the
04:24 eighth fight this year he's gone to four and one this year and this will be the
04:31 sixth state that he has fought in not only that but it's the third fight in a
04:35 month for the guy I think that brings up a new meaning to the words to the word
04:38 journeyman but he's a tough fighter I mean this is not a guy who just gets off
04:43 the plane and goes looking for a paycheck yeah he's even though you know
04:47 he's based out of Virginia he's a real Philly style fighter and he grew up in
04:52 Philly so he brings that legacy to the ring with him
04:55 McCready has stayed inside a little too often here and he's paid for it on the
04:59 way back out but McCready is just that kind of a fighter Joe will just put the
05:06 gloves to his head he'll stick in and wait for an opening and while he's
05:10 getting a lot of shots that sound good a lot of those high shots are bouncing off
05:14 hemp hills gloves helpful obviously is trying to take this round to see what
05:19 exactly he has in front of him trying to figure out the style as a left hooker
05:24 you know he knows he's gonna be able to throw that punch but he needs to know
05:27 when to throw it so right now he's looking at McCready and trying to figure
05:31 out when is the right time to throw the punch and pill - is impressive because
05:36 what I like in a fighter is when you can watch their legs watch them plant and see
05:40 if the power comes from the floor up and he's one of those fighters terms of
05:49 styles these fire these fighters match up here comes Irish Joe McCready snuck
05:53 inside with a right a left that paid for its way on the way out
05:58 because he had to just tie him up on the inside that's just the sign of an
06:06 experienced guy McCready will not long distance you if he can Wow there was a
06:11 big right hand followed up with a good left now he works inside stumbled head
06:15 held with a right hand and hemp Hill now trying to hang tough inside trying to
06:20 keep himself on balance yeah well helpful invited that punch by dropping
06:25 his left even though McCready was on the outside he looped it over the top
06:28 because he saw the handful that dropped his left and there was wide open and he
06:32 got clubbed for the heat seems to have recovered now you stunned a little bit
06:41 I think the biggest problem that Joe is having those far as keeping his trunks
06:45 up he's spending more time on that good exchange coming out good stick left by
06:54 hemp Phil as we come towards the end of round one and a glancing left the virus

07:21 between these two helpful to me it looks like he started to get the distance with
07:28 Joe he's using his jab his left hook and as you can see there but greedy just
07:34 can't reach him and I bring the shots up there because actually a low blow and
07:38 then McCready caught him Phil just with a glancing shot on the way out
07:43 McCready hurt himself a gash on his right eyelids that led to a no contest
07:54 fight against Jeffrey Osborne earlier this year he was back in the gym though
07:58 just a couple of weeks good left hand by him Phil the left hooks to the body are
08:04 hurting Joe solid right hand that came up from McCready but the bigger damage
08:11 has been done to McCready he's really hurt to the body the temple could keep
08:15 him off
08:17 as he's trying to do here a nice job staving off the blows that are coming in
08:23 high
08:30 well McCready holds his hands up he's a different fighter when he draws him he
08:34 gets hit it's as simple as that
08:38 until now I believe knows what he can hurt McCready with it's a matter now of
08:43 waiting for the opening which an experienced boxer will do Oh two solid
08:48 lefts to the head of McCready yeah and then he dipped out with a left hook
08:51 again to the body that's that Philly heritage left hooks tough to defend as
08:58 well McCready is burrowing in and does a nice job when he gets in close but then
09:06 on his way out he's leaving himself much too open and a hand bill knows that he
09:10 can take advantage
09:13 and the clinches helpful seems to have a little bit more experience what he does
09:24 is he ties him up and he moves him back McCready doesn't realize he's getting
09:28 pushed back oh that was a good left that get right through the defense of
09:32 McCready the two trade punches but hemp Hill is the one who started that with a
09:37 good loping uppercut
09:41 agreed he managed to put his gloves actually on a hemp pills face for a
09:49 moment there but it didn't do any damage
09:52 but Brady knows what he's got to do he's got to get in the inside he's the smaller
09:56 guy he's working hard he's fighting through the flurries and he's trying to
10:02 do damage however I will tell you that except for maybe that right
10:10 by him go right square on the jaw of McCready right at the end of the second

10:19 stone the veteran trainer basically telling him what we have noticed here
10:30 after two rounds of boxing McCready in only his sixth professional fight is
10:36 against the guy who is in his 12th fight and while there doesn't seem to be a lot
10:39 of difference there there is no doubt that the more polished fighter here
10:43 taking advantage of more openings is Edward Hemphill yeah now we're getting
10:48 to the spot where the short notice that he had to prepare for this fight even
10:51 though he has been active he's gonna start to take its toll McGreedy is a
10:54 well-conditioned guy you can see that and will helpful gets hired that's
10:59 really the question looks to be a little blood inside the mouth of Irish Joe and
11:10 pill again with a left hand that got through the gloves right uppercuts not
11:15 going there to hemp Hill doing a very good job is setting himself up for the
11:22 punches when in many ways it would seem that McCready is being more reactive than
11:27 proactive yeah handful has an idea of what he wants to do but he also is
11:34 creative enough that he'll vary it depending on McCready's doing McCready
11:38 is a stalker type of fighter he's coming in and that's his you know that's his
11:43 method he doesn't really bring much more besides aggressiveness keeps his hands
11:48 up and then when he gets inside he's a heavy puncher so helpful has a few more
11:53 tricks in the bag but you know overall they're still pretty evenly matched up
11:58 because of the flaws that both each one shows him Phil though is doing an
12:01 excellent job from a distance McQueen he will do his damage from in close
12:05 hemp although is able to hold him at arm's length and he's able to pop off a
12:09 couple of good shots yeah he understands where he's got a big which is that
12:13 the distance you can see right there you just stuck him and kept him away then
12:17 what he does is he sits down on his punches he looks to throw power that's
12:21 how we landed the right hand uppercut before and the left hook which he landed
12:24 just again there there is certainly a difference in style but a difference in
12:29 experience that we're seeing here welt that has begun underneath the right eye
12:34 of McCready who has his head snapped by a left from hemp Hill I gotta tell you
12:41 something right now there are times left to the body greedy with what is a
12:48 thought by some to be low blow but it was fully fully square McCready was hurt
12:53 earlier in the fight with a left hook to the body he never really recovered from
12:56 it that one landed in the same spot it hurt him and helpful knows what he has
13:01 to do there are moments when for Edward Hempfield this is target practice it is
13:06 not a smart fight that Irish Joe McCready is that here in the third round
13:12 down he goes again from another shot his mouth seems to be bothering him I think
13:18 it's that blood in the mouth is now coming out on the ring apron over it's
13:25 all the referee stop it stop it's over I think he's not the fight I've been
13:30 listening to Joe McCready and McCready I don't think could catch his breath
13:33 because of the blood in his mouth and Edward Hempfield who comes in here at
13:38 the heat from Woodbridge Virginia who was a last-minute replacement hands Joe
13:44 McCready his first defeat and now there's some concern over Irish Joe yeah
13:53 I mean as we very beaten young man as we said going into the fight if helpful is
13:57 in shape he's a tough guy he's been taking a lot of fights on short notice
14:00 here he obviously wasn't good enough condition that he could handle McGreedy's
14:05 aggressiveness and that left hook seems to have really done some damage here we
14:08 go again he's looking at what a handful had delivered now again yeah you can see
14:12 look at the distance between the two I mean it's just it's just too much Joe
14:16 McGrady cannot fight at that distance was a big body shot that left hand is
14:21 the one that some people who were sitting behind us thought might have
14:25 been a low blow but as you saw from there it was a solid shot to the body
14:28 and that's what actually started McCready going down battles on boxing

15:21 you look a little winded at the start of the third and yet you ended it there
15:24 you need to get a little better shape are you good at your weight or what's
15:28 the story I mean I took the flight on for they notice you know I mean but I
15:31 gotta believe my power and my jab my hooks to the body I lose one big
15:35 dividends cuz he want to come on strong he won't be a strong fighter but a jab
15:38 offset that and instead of my body shot first round you drop the left he came
15:42 over with a big right to the punch hurt you actually he never hurt me at all he
15:47 knew some good shots but I've been in there with some tough fighters you know
15:49 I mean he's a tough kid too but he can he need to polish up a little bit more
15:52 I learned how to work behind the jab instead of using so much power early
